ArmA2 factions: What's the NAPA faction?

Recommended Posts

In the ArmA2 website we already have the list of Factions that will exist in the game. One of them (USMC) is already detailed but the other aren't but we can see the name of those factions (total of six) and by the names the factions are:

USMC - The United States Marines (faction playable in the campaign - same as the "West" in ArmA)

CDF - I believe it should stand for "Chernarus Defence Forces". This is probably the Chernarus (pro-West?) government faction.

ChDKZ - I don't know what the inicials clearly stands for but by the name I would guess that this should be Anti-Government "Guerrilla" forces (pro-East?)

Russia - Self explanatory (it should kinda corresponds to the "East" side of ArmA)

Locals - Same as the "Civilians" side of ArmA.

And then finally we have the "NAPA" faction! So my question is, what is this faction? Does anyone have a clue or an idea what should this faction be or represent?

Sorry to ask (there's still no info on the web site for now but I know it will be in the future) but I simply couldn't hold my curiosity any longer. wink_o.gif

It's a group of red (=evil) wine-making californian activists ?

Edit : on a second thought, something like Nationalist Party sounds more plausible...

Hm ... NAPA might be the nationalist militia ( pro west , since the guv is also pro west) BI was talking about.

Humm, very interesting.

Where did you read that there will be a "nationalist militia" in ArmA2?

Thanks for the info, BTW...

I heard about it in a video on youtube . One of the devs was talking about it , but then again he could have been talking about the pro east guys .

What if Nationalist Party is simply patriotic neutrals who want not to ally with East nor West?

Guys its simple, watch the GC08 Videos or Read on Arma2 Page and you can hear+read them explaining which factions are what.

Quote[/b] ]In Chernarus, civil war has raged for two years after a long

period of political instability, caused by conflicts between a pro

-Western coalition and communist-nationalist Chernarus Red

Star Movement (ChDKZ, „Chedaki“). After ChDKZ was defeated

by the democratic wing in the 2008 elections, tension escalated

during the so-called September Crisis.

With wide support from ethnic Russians in the Northern Province

of Chernarus, insurgents attempted to reunite Northern

Chernarus with Russia by force, but were defeated in the

counter-insurgency operation „Northwind“.

By the summer of

2009, remaining insurgent troops retreated to hideouts in the

northern mountains.

In the autumn of 2009, „Chedaki“ surprisingly launched a

major assault on government forces, led by infamous supreme

warlord, nicknamed Akula („Shark“). In a few weeks insurgents

seized most of the Northern Province, and declared independence

from the Chernarussian government.

After negotiations to join Russia resulted in dismissal by Moscow,

insurgents installed their own government and declared

martial law, continuing to advance to the western part of the

country. Government forces suffered heavy losses and the situation

became critical. Alexander Baranov, the prime minister of

Chernarus, asked NATO forces to assist in restoring peace and

order in Chernarus.

The Alliance alerts its rapid reaction forces in the Euro-Asian

theater. It is decided to send Marines to the area to prevent

further civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict between „Chedaki„

and remnants of Chernarussian Defence Forces. A Marine

Expeditionary Force is deployed to take control of the situation.

I hope that helps a bit

That doesn't really clarify much, mr. g-c, and the situation isn't simple as you would tell us.

It's isn't clear if the Chedaki used that name for the government it installed or not. We have names for all of the factions in that text. Chedaki are the pro soviet Russia wannabes and the CDF is the military of the elected Chernarussian government. Locals seem to be civilians, and then there the self evident factions. NAPA could be some unmentioned faction, the government the Chedaki installed, a minority of ethinic Chernarussians in the northern provice, or some other possibility. They may represent a non-communist, pro-Russian movement or anything. I don't think that that text really helps at all.

In the A.I comparison video on youtube , the dev said : " And over there you can see a group of militia coming out of the woods " . I dont think he was talking about ChDKZ , because it's a major military force so now I am almost sure its the NAPA .

Maybe some sort of civilian militia.

They said in an interview that if you kill too many civilians they won't love you anymore wink_o.gif

Yes...

Plaintiff i know its not easy to get it, for me clear is only that:

USMC + CDF = Allies on southern and western parts

Russia + ChDKZ („Chedaki") Allies on Northern Parts

So NAPA must be some sort of Militia, unless "Locals" are something different than normal Civillians.....

Could be independent just as RACS are right now - you can set who they're friendly with in the editor.

Yes to the USMC CDF alliance

No to the Russian ChDZK alliance . Moscow refused the integration of Northen Cernarus in the Russian Federation .

Hm ... maybe they are there to keep an eye on them

so USMC+CDF+Russia vs. ChDKZ ? seems fair :/

it would be realy cool if the NAPA as local militia decides on your civilian kill count what to do with you in the campaign.

dont warn the civilians on air strike => NAPA ist coming at night^^

Well, no the one thing was in 2008 and now the game when you play is IMHO in 2009.

I really doubt Russia would ever work together with USA. Also as the game story is very close to recent georgian conflict, i think Russian would be more "pro-chDZK", which are the guys who want to reunite north-chernarus with russian, just like the south-ossetian in the recent gerogiam conflict tounge2.gif

Furthermore, to undermine it my assumtions, when you can understand german, you can hear Markus Kurzawa at the Arma2 GC 08 presentation explaining, that each of the two main factions (USA, Russia) has one "ally"......

Anyway: I believe those 6 factions will provide unlimited possibility in creating very cool campaigns for the community.I hope some community guy will make a campaign only fighting of north-chernarus against south - without the two super-power countries (USA + Russia).

Yeah it doesn't seem like Russia likes the Chedaki very much, but it does mention ethnic Russians in the North.  No doubt the Russian army have come to oversee the treatment of the Russians and possibly to unseat the Chedaki and then absorb the area into the federation.
