Hi all

The award winning documentary is back

Ross Kemp: Return to Afghanistan

It is back on Virgin cable and Sky satellite at 10 pm Sundays Sky1 and repeated Mondays at 11 pm on Sky2 in the UK.

He seems to get a lot closer to the front this time. You can tell how close not just by the zingers and the mud crawling and the camermans shots of Afghan mud and Kemps arrse, but also by the shot where the soldiers fix bayonets and Kemp draws his PPE pistol.

The Taliban also decide to make him a target according to their radio chatter.

The point/beauty of the first series was that it showed exactly what it was like on the ground for the blokes. You asked any British Soldier who'd been out there what it was like and he'd tell you to go and watch that, that it was "spot on". It was important in making people at home realise what the guys out there were doing and what they were going through. Whether they found it boring or not. I don't think it ever was intended as war porn for the armchair soldier; at least the idealist in me would like to believe it was about raising awareness.

Second series looks to be more of the same, and good on Kemp. As he says, hes going out there to put it on film, so that people at home don't forget. I'd say to anyone who considers it about Kemp making money that you couldn't pay me enough to go out and do that, but Sandhurst is my intended stop after Uni (provided they want me) so the argument wouldn't hold up well....but theres a difference between "part of the job" and what he's doing - I mean, he can leave at any time it gets too much for him, so, massive respect for going and doing it.

Does any one know where to get the original Ross Kemp in Afghanistan on DVD? I've been quite interested in seeing it to be honest and would also like to share it with some friends.

I don't know if it was ever supplied to the US so you might have to order it from a UK supplier such as amazon.co.uk, it might also be repeated on BBC America (I know it isn't a BBC documentary but show a lot of shows from other British channels).

Right on, he gets my respect. Could be his life on the line and to do that for TV, to show the british public what the men are going through is a tough role to achive.

i don't believe so. They take casualties from the front line to c. bastion. Always hauling lots of cargo and passengers about in them, they dont really use the smaller helicopters that oftern

then i would suggest you to simply put that "i am not interested" or simply dont say a thing instead of saying that you are "excruciatingly bored", as even if you are that painfully bored about that, there are a lots of people do care about the boys and girls out there

all due respect m8, but i dont think the documentary Opteryx linked is boring neither, the point is that personal taste shouldnt be the target of starting a forum war, while you express your ideas/loves/hates, be careful on what you say, i make these mistakes in the past which result in a total forum war and i hope i (or others) wont do the same agian

There's beena new batch of Apache's training over the fens recently. Looks like they got some more of them.

I think they have also reconverted those 8 failed spec ops Chinooks for regular duty, but I don't they have bought any new ones.

They will be reinforced by the Merlins withdrawn from Iraq instead I suspect.
