Inside ArmA2 with Jerry Hopper & Lord. J.Kingsley

Recommended Posts

Edited version of my post in the Games Convention thread (page 28) tounge2.gif

Probably some go too deep into the details, (1.1), (1.2) and (2) would be the most interesting ones...

-------------------------------------------------

I'd have a couple of questions regarding the new 'High' Commander interface. ...

(1.1) Is there a command structure, like a Lieutenant commanding a Squad, a Captain multiple squads in a Platoon, a Major a Company of several Platoons?

(1.2) Is the AI also capable to use it? E.g. If you put an officer with some infantry and armored squads on a map, will he treat his detachment just as a bunch of single soldiers+vehicles like in a single squad or will he be able to manage them as separate squads. => we could call this 'Macro-AI' tounge2.gif

(1.3) Does this feature come with (new) formations for those platoons/... or do I have to manually drag all those squads around.

(1.4) Is it possible to reassign units from one squad to another, merge, divide, ...?

(1.5) Do commanders of sub-units still have a kind of autonomy, e.g. in ordering flanking maneuvers and the like?

(1.6) Vice versa, will the High Commander just issue commands to his sub-divisions or can he also address individual soldiers?

Regarding something different, in one of the OFP2 videos CM advertises the persistence of descruction, e.g. if you blow up a building in the first mission it will stay like that for the rest of the campaign.

(2) Will ArmA2 support persistence of descruction across the whole campaign?

Would be particularly interesting for bridges, even though there seem to be no more rivers and the landscape does not seem to be cluttered with canyons that might need some bridges either. Considering that bridges caused some trouble in ArmA probably a smart 'omission'. tounge2.gif

I didn't see this question (but i've had beer,so), so here it comes:

Q1: Will there be OFP-like terrain detail setting, which affects to roughness of terrain? If not, then is terrain detail setting going to remain same as in ArmA?

Also if it's not too complicates (or not-related) i would like to ask also:

Q2: Why this OFP-like terrain detail feature wasn't included in ArmA? Engine related reason?

This has been answered many times, it's due to the new streaming terrain.

Conserning ArmA2?

Concerning ArmA2, no, but IIRC it uses the same streaming engine, so I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Q: Does the AI in Arma II leads subordinate units different depending on their class, for example rifleman, machine gunner or marksman, and do those units act different depending on their class?

Are weapons as static as they have been for the past 8 years?

In other words? do we finally have detailed reloading animations? checks and blockages?

Q: Will you implement the Per Pixel Lightning? You said you plan to, so how did you decide?

Really Awesome, but what was the song at the beginning where you explained why the interview had such a long length?

Great show, can't wait for the second part. I got the same question as Sniper Pilot. What song is that? Very James Bond'ish ^_^

Hm, some interesting things were mentioned, but a lot of the questions that were asked and answered have either been answer before or was pretty obvious. It's a bit sad that the questions in this thread were ignored...
