ArmA 2 on PlayStation 3

Recommended Posts

Quote[/b] ]When M.A.G “massive action game†comes out on the PS3 pistols.gif , people then would see how the PS3 has more potential than the XBOX360 and can actually compete with the PC.

HAHAHAHA biggrin_o.gif When this "MAG" (gaaawd, what a stupid name for a game) of yours comes out, PS3 will be three, four years old. That is freaking FOREVER in computer technology with transistor counts doubling ever two years (Moore's law) and whatnot. And PS3 wasn't even shit hot to begin with, compared to high end PCs of the time.

Simply put, if MAG was made for PC it would definitely be at least two times better, perhaps even four wow_o.gif

Go educate yourself about the PS3, you'll keep upgrading your mobo and PS3 would still go. I play decent games for $300.00 while you have to have the best PC $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 if not more to run a game, crossing your fingers that the game wouldn't freeze/crash! Where is the logic? dah!

The console war and trolling ends now.

This thread is strictly for discussing ArmA 2 on the PlayStation 3. This thread is not about arguing over other platforms, other games, which is better, or who would win. Leave those arguments in the schoolyard.

From here on out all discussion in this thread is back on topic and will be focused solely on discussing the possibilities of ArmA 2 on the PlayStation 3. If you feel that you cannot discuss ArmA 2 on the PlayStation 3 constructively then do not participate in this discussion.

I already know all there is to know about the PS3. Sure, it will go even three more years from now, go like one-legged mule in quicksand that is.

Sorry to obliterate your only semi-valid argument but my PCs don't crash because I didn't build them out of bad el-cheapo parts and I don't run bugged software, games or drivers

Where I live the basic 80GB PS3 costs more than 400 euros on average. That's about 500 dollars, more than enough to buy a total kick-ass video card and CPU for your PC... or even an used PC far more powerful than the PS3.

I would generally caution against acting like a moderator, but on this occasion you did such a fine job I'll let it slide wink_o.gif

I believe that making a game like Arma 2 run on the PS3 would be at the very least complicated, BIS could do it but it would require alot of time and work.

Would it be worth it? Im sorry to say but in my honest opinion.. no.

In the console market there is very little interest in a game like this, even more so on the PS3.

I would predict another OPF:E, wasted time and effort..

Have you played SOCOM on the PS3, do you know how many people play this game every night?

I strongly suggest that you click on the link below.

Marek seems to think it's the other way around. (go to 4:16)

Operation Flashpoint: Elite showed two important things:

1. Bohemia knows how to make a great console game and they obviously feel that console development is necessary.

2. The console community for Bohemia's games is very loyal, with many users actually owning both the PC and console versions of the game.

The bulk of PlayStation 3 users tend to gravitate towards massive war games that utilize the many technical features of their system. If ArmA 2 were developed for the PS3 it would fit into that category flawlessly, and would therefore create yet another loyal community for ArmA. The time and effort required to make that happen would not be wasted.

Great!! glad to see another developer defend the console community. BIS, i'm willing to spend all my money on whatever you release on the PS3, map packs, Keyboard/Mouse support, Mission editor, you put the price tag and i'll buy it.

There is a huge potential on the PS3 and developers know that, PS3 is your money machine you have a cell processor with 6 SPEs, come on guys, let us see it lit.

Soccom looks just like a full auto GRAW ripoff, they even kept the HUD..

.

I stick to my opinion that Arma 2 is not a console type of game.

Bohemia Interactive allegedly thinks that ArmA 2 is a "console type of game". That being the case, what do you think Bohemia could do to make a successful version of ArmA 2 for the PlayStation 3?

I dont think theres anything they can do, unless they decide to make completely diferent games that are more appealing to console gamers. Althought i dont disregard the importance of console sales (mostly the xbox 360, the PS3 appears to be dying) i dont share Maruk's negative opinion of the PC.

Let's say that Bohemia were to make some drastic changes to ArmA 2 in order to make the game a suitable PlayStation 3 title. What specific elements do you think Bohemia would have to change in order to make ArmA 2 appealing to PlayStation 3 users?

Based on the PS3 cell architecture "the 6 made available SPEs" to developers, i don't think BIS needs to make drastic changes to make the game available on the PS3, they don't even need to port it from the XBOX360. PS3 proved that it is more than capable of handling such games, i.e. Uncharted: Drake in terms of graphics depth, SOCOM in terms of game play and yet to see MAG "the promised 256 multiplayers". Some PC owners are worried that consoles now can play PC games and the fact that you don't need a $2,000.00 machine to play a decent game!!

Thats right.

Crysis was a crappy game powered by an impressive graphics engine. They blamed piracy alone, they forgot extreme system requirements and a crappy game that didnt make justice to the outstanding graphics engine, Crysis was no HL2..

I wasnt surprised to read that it sold 2 million copies and imo that wasnt a bad number for such an overated and HW demanding game, i would be surprised if Arma 2 sold 200 thousand copies on the PS3 though..

That sounds a bit complicated, given the scale and pace of the game, maybe make it play more like a 3rd person shooter and make it a more forgiving and action based war game.

What some of us find imersive and realistic others find clunky and hard to get used to so its a bit complicated.

WTF crazy_o.gif How can you say that with a straight face? Did you even play it?

Would you objectively say that Crysis was more crappy than ArmA? That's bullshit...

You can say you didn't like it or that you didn't think it was a great game, but to justify calling it a crappy game is going to need some arguments.

He called it crappy because he didn't agree with what they said. I know few PC owners who don't buy games they just download them off bit torrent.

You call these extreme system requirements:

CPU: Core 2 Duo/Athlon X2 or better

RAM: 1.5GB

Video Card: NVIDIA 7800 Series, ATI Radeon 1800 Series or better

VRAM: 512MB of Graphics Memory

Storage: 12GB

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

ODD: DVD-ROM

OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista

DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10

I think you're just a console hater.

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "more forgiving and action based"? What features could be implemented or taken out of the of ArmA 2 to make it fit into a more forgiving and action based category of game on the PlayStation 3?

Voidworm:

Uhm, I am not sure, but there would be maybe some problems with the aiming and floating zone system on the PS3 or Xbox. And that would be a minus. Havent played Elite so I dont realy know how it is handled.

InFireBaptize:

Well the problems with HW requiremet by publisers (crysis example) is that, they dont everytime meet the real needed requirement.

Also, please dont use the imaginered price for PCs, because it is realy exagered. And in the case of PCs you dont need to buy a full new PCs, you can simply upgrade parts. So the price will be lower.

Quote[/b] ]...you don't need a $2,000.00 machine...

Well this is about more than 40 000,-Czk you can buy a decent PC for about 7000 - 15 000,-Czk* to play game like crysis in good grafics.;)

*Depends on what part you buy new/upgrade

Please, no flame war PC vs. PS3 wink_o.gif

to justify calling it a crappy game is going to need some arguments.

That topic will not be needing an argument in this thread as it has absolutely nothing to do with this thread's topic.

Heatseerker, if you feel the need to continue this argument with Pulverizer please take it up with him in private or in another thread.
