manzilla 1 Posted March 21, 2008 Thanks for the reply EnF. That is the "old" forum I meant. It's more like the "old, new" version of the forum. My french is rusty but I believe the News section of the french community has the sticky for the "new, new" version link. It's not working atm though so I'm wondering if there's another "new" link. I believe snake stopped using the forum from that link cause it was compromised by porn solicitors. I think this is supposed to be the link for the "new, new" forum: http://xam.xtremlabs.fr/Forum/
F-16 0 Posted March 28, 2008 I installed the light version of xam but when I try to run it I get an error in the settings > cfgdifficulty .h about the voip flags. I fixed that by adding an entry for the voip flags but then I got another about compiling pixel shaders PSalphaonlymod. I'm kinda surprised, when I searched for it there were only a few cases on some random squad pages but nothing related to xam. That missing difficulty entry should have screwed everyone with 1.09/11 who tried it. ArmA runs just fine without xam and I don't have any other mods running beside the 1.11 beta (also tried the 1.09 a while ago) Thanks

I could be mistaken but I think it's only compatible with 1.08 as of now. Snake initially said a XAM Light hotfix for 1.09beta would be released a few days after the initial version came out. I don't believe he's posted anything since then. I think he decided to delay the hotfix until the 1.11beta patch was released. He posted something about this in the French section of the XAM forums just before patch 1.11b was released. Unfortunately my translation could be a bit off. I posted that translation in the XAM Light thread so give a look if you got time.

Master gamawa 0 Posted April 7, 2008 Hey XAM people. Listen up! I love your mod. I really do. This is the only mod I play with and I appreciate all the hard work you have done to bring realism and beauty to the King of Games. I just want to address the matter of realism in general but I will have to start with something specific. You see, you removed the aiming dot which is very realistic because, HEY, I have shot real weapons and I didn't see any goshdarned dot floating in the middle of the air, right? RIGHT? Yes, that's right but then again my real body is aware of it's self. When I hold a weapon, even without aiming through the iron sights, I kind of KNOW where it's pointing. It's instinctive. Even with my eyes closed I can tell the area my rifle points at, because I hold it with my hands. It's called hand-eye coordination and it's built in my brain and nerves... and it is very hard to simulate with mouse and keyboard. I know, removing it makes a ton of sense when you think about it. But what else can VISUALLY express our ability to know where our rifles points at? Which brings me to my woe! The sniper rifles. I hate sniper rifles in XAM. It's very hard to calculate where my rifle points at when I am just looking around and try to zoom on my target, while in reality I would just align the scope with my target without thinking about it too much. Of course there will be a bit of adjusting but the general direction would be fine. That's was the purpose of the aiming dot anyway. To even out the difficulty of having to use a mouse to represent the very complicated system of eyes-head-arms coordination we use in real life. It wasn't put there to make things easier (or faker), but to help avoid making things harder than reality. As you can understand our body makes very small and accurate adjustments that could NEVER be simulated by mouse and keyboard. The aim dot serves that particular reason even if the majority of players thinks it's unreal or... game-y... Of course I could get used to it. I have to start training my self to calculate where the center of the screen is, because that's where my sniper rifle will zoom at. Now this is not very natural is it? It kills the immersion because I am starting to put the 'screen shape' into my game. I fight my inability to use my natural had eye coordination by trying to figure out where the center of the screen is. WHAT SCREEN DUDE? THIS IS WAR! There is no screen. I don't want to think about screens when I am shooting tanks with my trusted M107. Also about the hand grenade: Same story. Now I calculate where the grenade will fall by looking upwards to the right angle and hope I didn't throw it wrong. Sometimes in the heat of the battle and in some non flat terrains things get confusing. In reality, my hand-eye coordination would take care of this. Take a ball and throw it around places in your room. Your eyes stay on the target while your arm, instinctively does the work. You can calculate almost exactly where the ball will land without thinking how high or low you must throw it. That's what the aiming circle for the grenade was for!!! It wasn't for cheating or for stupid gamers. I used to be able to throw grenades through windows. Now I don't throw them anymore because I have no idea how much strength I am using even if I throw a lot of them around. It takes a lot of experience to throw a grenade without any floating aiming gimmicks which is not natural for a grown up soldier. All I am trying to say is that going for realism is ok as long as you don't strip the game of all gimmicks that make the game more natural. I vote for a toggle-able version of the aimdot. Maybe a very transparent version of it. Just a reminder that our bodies have abilities that are too complicated to be simulated by a computer interface but at the same time very useful for our survival. Thanks for reading. M.Andersson(SWE) 4 Posted April 27, 2008 +1 on this one... That goes for all mods and missions... The dot is essential for the game not for realism...

rjbb026 0 Posted May 22, 2008 its not illegal, because i bought it at best buy. I bought the gold edition for 50 bucks. Maybe, its like a feature.
Master gamawa 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Well, for some reason the game protection program 'thinks' your copy is illegal. Try reinstalling since you have an original copy and see if it works. Back up your profiles/missions/add ons first.

JuggernautOfWar 1 Posted July 9, 2008 Is there any way I can get the radio feature in the UH-60 without installing your whole mod? As in standalone.
manzilla 1 Posted July 9, 2008 You should just send him a PM or see if the XAM forums are still up. He hasn't answered any of the questions since v1.12 patch was released. It's fairly safe to say he doesn't check these forums too often.
JuggernautOfWar 1 Posted July 10, 2008 Hello, I've got a couple questions. 1: If I want the standard UI back do I just delete the ui.pbo file in ArmA\@XAM1.4\Addons? 2: In the XAM_Settings.hpp file is 0 really high quality on explosion while 1 is low quality? Or is that a typo, because the French instructions tell me the opposite thing. Anyway, I'm at work on lunch break is why I'm asking and not simply testing myself, thanks people. JuggernautOfWar 1 Posted July 10, 2008 Hey, question. Is Xam 1.4 compatible with the new patch?I just tried the XAM light 1.4 and I get some errors and it dosnt work. Yeah, when you download this you download 1.4.06 so it's the latest version already. Look at the file name you downloaded it'll tell you. Good luck.
