jerryhopper 286 Posted July 13, 2007 *** UPDATE *** HOKAY!!! After the launch of the Queen's Gambit Packshot design competition, i got SO FRIGGEN IRRITATED by the 'Flash' shell around the image gallery. Not only agitated by flash, but also the lack of 'external promotion' tools jerry began to write a RSS feed out of the data thats available. After a quick digg in the website, i came up with a 'RSS feed' with embedded images, so everybody can check new submissions with just one simple click. Fire up your RSS reader, or use the buildin RSS viewer in your browser and check out those latest designs. http://ww.armedassault.eu/queensgambit_contest.xml Now you dont have to do the weirdest tricks to find the url of the image. i hope you all 'digg' it! regards, Jerry Hopper lets archive the initial post in this quote. Quote[/b] ]Okay, i dont wanna spoil everybodies fun and dont wanna be a Whiner or a Fanboy.... But i thought about the ArmA Queens Gambit contest.... Quote[/b] ]Queens Gambit Packshot Design Competition 505 Games is proud to announce ArmA: Queen’s Gambit, the official expansion pack for the critically acclaimed PC title ArmA: Armed Assault - considered the most realistic tactical combat simulation ever made.  ArmA: Queen’s Gambit is due for release in September 2007 and today 505 Games launches a fantastic competition for fans to design the official game packshot. The winning creation will be adapted for the box artwork and be seen in stores worldwide! Winners will also receive an exclusive copy of their artwork signed by Bohemia Interactive, the development team behind the ArmA games. Head over to http://www.armaqueensgambit.com/ to see the official game and competition website and download trailers and screenshots for inspiration to create your own cover art masterpiece. But hurry, all entries need to be uploaded to the site before 3rd August to be entered into the competition. what i was thinking was the following.... - What would the price be? - i mean,  the box artwork is free.... Whats next? a Map/Mission design contest? Or maybe  there already are people from the community secretly working on Queen's Gambit? (sidenote : the above txt is a joke except the quoted text. dont be so jumpy deadmeat, relaxxxx  ) after some fooling around i added a real attempt.
Frantic 0 Posted July 13, 2007 its just funny that they dont have the money to make the design by them self. for the next expansion they should ask us to make the missions and addons included.

Shadow NX 1 Posted July 13, 2007 Personally id like to see the old OFP style again, a soldier ( or merc in that case ) in his gear pointing his gun at you. Still think the Resistance package looks superb with the FIA guy on it.
Maddmatt 1 Posted July 13, 2007 its just funny that they dont have the money to make the design by them self. They don't have the money? Do you not realise that it would probably be cheaper to design the cover themselves than to have this competition? Do you think it's actually expensive to design a cover? Has anyone actually noticed that 505 is actually putting in some effort into marketing this game, unlike the other publishers? This is the first big game they have published, also their first PC game. I guess this competition wont be received that well, and if someone actually puts effort into their cover they will have a good chance of winning. It's all PR, you all know what that is right? A publisher tries something different and people start stupid conspiracy theories and jokes Edit: I see there are already some nice covers, as well as a lame joke by this thread starter. Edit again: Never mind, the good ones are actually examples from
Wolfrug 0 Posted July 13, 2007 In their terms and conditions on the www.armaqueensgambit.com page, #6, we find: Quote[/b] ]6. The first prize winner will have their winning entry adapted to fit the packshot template and it will be used as the final cover for ArmA: Queen’s Gambit. The artwork will be used across all promotional activity for the release. The winner will also receive a signed copy of ArmA: Queen’s Gambit. Which is more in line with booyah-asskickin' than just getting a signed copy of one's artwork Kind regards, Wolfrug

Guest Ti0n3r Posted July 13, 2007 @http://www.armaqueensgambit.com/ To whoever designed that site; What's your fucking problem!?. Stop lying to us. We already know there won't be any new realistic sound effects like the ones from the "Queens Gambit trailer" (old ArmA trailer). This is fucking disgusting

Guess 505 got it from them. As for the sound effects, well at least there are sound replacement mods with even better sounds. Trailer is probably just there to make the site more interesting. Guest Ti0n3r Posted July 13, 2007 Let's just hope this false information will backfire on them Edit: And I'll quit it here. Don't wanna get the thread locked...
JohnMalcolm1970 0 Posted July 13, 2007 I'm not sure what all the bitching is about. Simply take this for what it is: An opportunity to have fun creating something, with the possibility of winning something.
malick 0 Posted July 13, 2007 I feel this is a good move from BIS/505 Games. It gives the community the opportunity to be a little bit recognized : this game exists for the community and by the community. Without the people involved in addon making, tweaking and creating new content for free, OFP and ArmA would have remained second-class games known only to a handful. This is only PR from 505, don't get excited or angry. At least it's a try. Maybe the 'soldier pointing his gun to the customer' was a Codemaster cover and it belongs to them ? I would have liked to see exactly the same cover for ArmA... Malick
Balschoiw 0 Posted July 13, 2007 You really need to have some "devotional" spirit if you create the cover image and it´s used for the whole QG PR campaign worldwide. In terms of money we are speaking about something with 3 to 4 zeros behind a solid number... It would be nice if they rewarded the winner with solid cash, but a signed version of an expansion ? Looks a bit lousy to me.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted July 13, 2007 Personally id like to see the old OFP style again, a soldier ( or merc in that case ) in his gear pointing his gun at you.Still think the Resistance package looks superb with the FIA guy on it. I would love a poster of the CWC cover in my room, i dont have any posters at all but the CWC cover is just completely awesome. Anyways, having designed a game cover always looks good on your CV/Résumé if you want to do that sort of thing..
Guest Ti0n3r Posted July 13, 2007 ACU dressed US soldier aiming his M4 at the camera / SLA soldier aiming his AK74 at the camera á OFP & Resistance would be great. Those are probably the best game covers I've seen so far.
colt 0 Posted July 13, 2007 I guess it's easy to be cynical about this - especially if you look at it in financial terms. But from an aspring designers (which I'm not) point of view it's a great opportunity for something to put in your portfolio / CV. I assume they'll give proper credit in the manual as well. Col. Faulkner 0 Posted July 13, 2007 Queen's Gambit? You do all realise that BIS has given up this "realistic soldier sim" silliness and made it into a "battle chess" game instead? Instead of... "All, GO To, house at...ELEVENoClOcK! you now get... "PaWN...TO queen's BIsHop ...four!"..."Oh no, Pawn...is DowN!" Â
jakerod 254 Posted July 13, 2007 Anyone know if you are allowed to use pictures off the armedassault.com site for this?
Dwarden 1125 Posted July 13, 2007 ArmA and ArmA: Queens Gambit should be ALSO released on STEAM ... that would solve most of cash issues ... anyway ... why just only screenshot competetion ... why not mission design competetion, faces competetion, spoken word (jokes, radio chatter) etc.
