Kode 0 Posted June 11, 2007 you have to contact the publisher because they are the ones that put securom on it. So it's reasonable that they are responsible and not BIS, as they have nothing to do with it...
thr0tt 12 Posted June 11, 2007 DVD German Version here and I get the same message although less expletives A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (7001). Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=7001 for further, more detailed information. The link to Securom tells us that there is nothing with that error code... I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet but will do that tonight when I am home.
maruk 80 Posted June 11, 2007 Securom issue. Quick search over the internet reveals some other games hit by their latest update exactly this way... EA forums No need to reinstall the game really. I contacted their support about some official advice and explanation what's causing it: but from quick look it looks like something related to specific computer installation and not the game installation itself. thr0tt 12 Posted June 11, 2007 Hmm, reading there: Quote[/b] ]Someone posted this on the US forums: Quote: MY PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED (thanks SecureROM's support): NOTE: Make a registry back up before you try this. This MIGHT not work for you. Thank you for your email. Please open the registry editor (Start->Run- >regedit) and move to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\ key. Please delete all REG_BINARY entries of this key (all blue ones on the left side). Afterwards reboot the machine and then the game should work again. Might be worth a try. As it says may be worth a try but ** READ THE CONSEQUENCES FIRST !!! ** Google the error too and it seems a few games *cough* computers have the same issue after patching like Maruk says. * Can a mod clean up the first post please as this problem may effect a few people * ta. maruk 80 Posted June 11, 2007 This is the exact advice I received back from Securom: Quote[/b] ]We are sorry you are having launch issues. We suspect you are receiving this error message as a result of the use of an emulation program that tampers registry keys. To fix your registry entries please follow the instructions below: Note: These tampered entries have NOT been caused by SecuROM?. Please also note, you should only delete duplicate entries and not any others. SecuROM? is not liable for any problems caused by using these instructions. We provide them only as a service and to assist with repairing the launch issue. Please open the registry editor (Start->Run->regedit) and move to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\ area (by clicking on this folder, you will see all the entries on the right side). Look at the entries with an alpha designation (ie: \DosDevices\Letter_Here). You should see one of entries with letters with duplicate entries. If you delete the duplicate entry (right mouse click and choose 'Delete' from the choices), you should be able to exit RegEdit and launch your program. If the problem persists, please delete all REG_BINARY entries in this folder (only blue ones on the right side). Reboot your computer immediately, the entries will be re-established, and the game should start. Playing with registry seems to be quite hard core thing to do in order to play a computer game: it's really becoming a tough life being a PC gamer now a days.... thr0tt 12 Posted June 11, 2007 Will be trying when I get home, I recently added a NDAS to my network and as such it uses emulation software to add another drive for this remote unit, that is what it must be. Timely reply Maruk thx.
troop 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Same error. Fresh install Arma 1.04 Successful patch to 1.05.1536 (successful startup; tested) Successful patch to 1.08.5163 then... securom 7001 Will try the fix posted..brb ------------------------- Good News;..the fix worked (and is not hard to apply) I did not have dual entries, but did this (and reboot) to fix it: Quote[/b] ]...delete all REG_BINARY entries in thisfolder (only blue ones on the right side)
thr0tt 12 Posted June 11, 2007 Had to delete all the entries and it worked fine after that. * There were no duplicate entries * Tried to just remove drives higher than C:, didn't work. Fix - had to remove all the entries / reboot, tested ok.
cobra@pulse 0 Posted June 11, 2007 I think I can safely say, SecuROM suck ass big time. You think by now they'd sought out there lives. I mean, for god sake, expect people to use their software when it doesn't even work. Trying that thing out later. Seens as I've uninstalled and re-installed now anyway. Be careful though doing that with the reg's as if you do it erases custom lettered drives. Only if you changed them yourself though. Which is a bit shit really but oh well. Kango 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Like said previously I deleted all the drives in that folder (just unused drive letters didn't work) and it worked ,however I had problems when the drives were assigned different letters. You can change them back via (XP) right clicking My Computer then 'Manage', However I would try just deleting the ' \??\Volume ' entries, that may avoid it. -AOE-Maniac 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Having the very common ArmA fails launch error: German DVD 1.0 -> 1.05 -> 1.08 ArmA does not start, the DVD spins up quickly, then the game launcher dies. No SecuROM error messages. The fix stated above does not work with this error. Assistance is appreciated. Let it be BIS, SecuROM or anybody else. Just fix this thing. Thanks. jasono 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Your not editing or modifying any registry keys to do with your system files. If you do make a big cock up of things it will be secure rom that goes wrong.. but unless you are completely thick (and I think we know your not, since you are an ArmA player ) you shouldn't have any problems. Read the instructions and remove a few files. It's basic from what I've read. If you still don't feel comfortable then your out of options since this appears to be the only solution I'm afraid. What I want to know is... What causes this error to appear? I read something about emulation software. I have it for use for a linux distribution iso I have for vmware and don't have any problems with my ArmA. I have the German Disc copy with SecureRom. I just wanted to know what the cause was that modifies the registry entries.
Bracken 0 Posted June 12, 2007 hi, Not sure if this is the same problem but this is a qoute from troubleshooting thread which suggests the problem came from an xp update? If it's a different problem just ignore  imustkill Quote[/b] ]This post is regarding those with problems launching the game.  I contacted SecuRom support and this was their response.Hello. Thank you for your e-mail. Do you have a Windows update called 'KB917422'installed on your computer? I ask this because there is a software conflict with this update and the ability to either play your game and/or create an analysis file. To check to see if you have this update installed, go to: 1. "My Computer", and open C:\ drive 2. Within C:\ drive, open "Windows" 3. Under 'System Tasks' (in blue bar at left), click on "Add/Remove Programs" 4. Search for this update. If you find that you have this 'KB917422' update installed, Microsoft has now released a new update called 'KB924867' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924867) that fixes this problem. Please download this update and your game will work fine. Now this solution did NOT work for me.  However perhaps somebody else will have some more luck. djerden 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Just deleting all the "\??\Volume" ones did the trick for me. Â I had no duplicates for any of the assigned drive letters so I left those alone. I had this same freaking error...searched the forums here & found this post, after I tried the Windows update patch suggestion that didn't work... Deleting just the "\??\Volume" ones in the registry, as mentioned, did the trick for me too. Â Didn't have to touch my drive entries.

Chris Death 0 Posted June 12, 2007 I don't have any emulation software, so I shouldn't have to mess around with my registry. Â Now are the devs going to do something about this or not? You just don't want get it. The "Devs" did already all they could. Maruk posted you the official statement from the responsibles for Securom problems - SECUROM. Since you don't want to mess around with your registry, and by looking at the games you play, you will soon need to find a hobby (not on your pc). ~S~ CD
Cloughy 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Gonna try this when i get home. But if this reg fix works (seems so from the feedback), Could a mod or Maruk, update his orig 1.08 post with this info, or a mod place it in a locked sticky at the top of the forum. It seems a common error, and the Troubleshooting forums seem to be full of everything from 'it wont run, I broke my disc in half' to this securerom error. A lot to read through for a simple fix. I think alot of ppl who get this error like me, have a common setup, XPsp2 (Auto Updates On), Core 2 Duo 6700, ATI (7.5, + Hotfix) 1900XTX, ASUS P5W DH, Corsair 8500 DDR2, Seagate 7200.10 x 2 RAID 0, X-FI Fatality. IE- i dont have any brand new Hardware, so it prob wont be a driver prob. Cheers GC
