Is it worth it?

I have played heavily OFP and the expansion packs. I also modded my game to add those delta force mission and I loved it. However there were parts of the game I didn't like. There weren't many sniper mission and when I shot at a patrol of enemies they would know my exact location. Also I couldn't sneak into enemy bases or sneak near troops without them knowing where I was. Is ArmA any different?

Its worse. Take some honest advice - Arma is a great but critically flawed right now. Its graphically more impression but gameplay wise dose not even compete with Flashy. Stick with OPF wait maybe 6 or 7 months & if BIS get there finger out, then go for Armed Assault.

if you like infantry simulation or aircraft, its better.

if you like specop/sniper missions, it is alot, ALOT worse. Pretty much any ofp "James Gastavski D3ltaL33t" mission will give you a 1% chance of completing the mission if played in arma.

Essentially it has all the very same flaws and strengths of OFP.

Same again on a new Island with more tree's and buildings and grass.

The game is very playable and will only get better, due to GREAT support in the future updates to come from the developers in patches and mods alike that will keep you going for years to come. Get it!

I agree with Celery, OFP simply sux after ArmA(well, except for the frame rate). I can't tell much about sniping, but they will spot you pretty fast if you shoot them from front.

I really like the stealth missions in Armed Assault. One time I had someone run right past me when I was hiding behind a building.

I haven't played OFP besides the demo, so I wouldn't know how they compare.

He's right, while graphically it's significantly better there are still LOTS of problems with ArmA currently.

Wait six months and ask the same question again, infact.. you could get the demo now and six months later and see the difference.

ArmA is a fantastic engine, get decent hardware (not 8800s till Nvidia sorts the issues). The latest patches added some desperately needed functionality -tank gun depression, zoom optics, alternate options for aiming and such.

Uness you have unreasonably high expectations and low understanding, this game rocks.

The biggest improvement is multiplayer join in progress games.

This game is a must have! It's not worth contemplating if you ever enjoyed OFP.

It's a lot of fun now, and it is sure to have a long lasting community in the future.

I'll play Flashpoint for its great single player. ArmA has some great multiplayer once you find a good server with some good folks in there. The single player included with ArmA isn't very immersive, but I'm looking forward to seeing some more fan made things.

This game SHINES in MP of that there is no doubt. Get it just for the Multiplay.

Now sniping, I was at 150 meters with a Sniper wpn and hide myself in some low branches and bush, I killed 5 guys before they found me, one AI even passed within 2 feet stoped looked around and ran off, so I am not sure why the guys are complaining about sniper missions etc, ofcourse teh sights are rl but its fun :P

When sniping the AI know where you are to easily. They can take you out pretty quickly to.

However playing online in a sniper mission is something totally different.

It is worth it if you are to play online.
