nephilim 0 Posted May 21, 2007 ew delicate topic for sure... i think in the time when school assaults take place it would be HIGHLY unwise to create child models. this will just feed the media even more.. theres also the regular ethical points no doubt but on the contrary its still pixels and polygons.. but try to explain that to someone who´s not into games and sees a killergame everywhere and just wants to ban them. so creating child models in a "killergame" will just fuel that. colligpip 0 Posted May 21, 2007 PLease can addon makers add whatever they want into the game, if somebody has some sort of problem that they cannot distinguish reality form a video game then they should not be playing pc games , so please add what you like. I would love to be able to play missions in a fully populated island - most of todays warfare is about trying to lessen collatoral damage it seems silly we can represent this in such a good war sim. Grand Q if you read this could you send me this misson you speak of with suicide bombers in it.
Col.Flanders 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Sorry, a little OT but great Jamie Hyneman pose there, Opteryx. Back on topic - a Kari Byron model...now that'd be a juicy addition.
Dodgy Bob 0 Posted May 21, 2007 I have kids and would love to see this added to ArmA. I could then set up a mission where I create my kids, spend a while making them look exactly like them, give them the right clothes, etc. Maybe even name tags, whatever. Then I could get behind the biggest calibre gun I could find and blow them to pieces while screaming "That'll teach you to cost me money with your new trainers every 2 days and your fancy clothes that you play football in!! And as for your texting...". Ahhh, lol. Seriously, who cares? It's a game. Add them or not.
churnedfortaste 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Before you add kids you need to remove the lame clothes that civillians currently have...
Dallas 9 Posted May 21, 2007 Let's face it, BIS has inexhaustible funds to throw at Jack Thompson. If you want women and children in ArmA, you have to accept these models will be raped and molested. I do understand the desire to turn ArmA into BF, POSTAL and SOF, but looking back at half a decade of modding, modeling and editing of OFP I'd hate to see a new generation turn this game into Ogrish. People can mod whatever they want, but BIS would have to be out of their damn minds to promote chilrden and women as targets for some messed up teenage fantasy. icebreakr 3159 Posted May 21, 2007 Wake up Dallas, will ya? Women blew up themselves in Israel, women play important role in almost all NATO units, children aka toy soldiers are some of best fighters in Africa...
churnedfortaste 0 Posted May 21, 2007 raped and molested I'm not too sure how that work... custom anims? But seriously I think you speak for yourself that there would be some sort of paedophile mod...
-CS-SOBR-1st-I-R- 0 Posted May 21, 2007 I have kids and would love to see this added to ArmA. I could then set up a mission where I create my kids [...] Well... for such an idea kids might be nice. But it would be pretty unwise to shoot children.. I once planed to create a mission that played like a video (in ofp) with civilians disembarking from a car and walking in harmony through the landscape with the song of "the fields of barley" in the background and walk with her through the sunset and the fields ... LOL good old times
[aps]gnat 28 Posted May 21, 2007 This old debate again ffs ...... isn't there enough to shoot at? ... really. Some people just like (re)raising controversial subjects for a laugh I suspect. Poke the members and mods until someone triggers the time bomb ....
Dallas 9 Posted May 21, 2007 Wake up Dallas, will ya? Women blew up themselves in Israel, women play important role in almost all NATO units, children aka toy soldiers are some of best fighters in Africa... Still it would be suicide for BIS to implement such models. Do you remember the ArmA insurgecy movies? Where Bluefors where killed by IEDs and snipers? The recaction was pretty wild, those videos were even removed from youtube.
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Whilst I do wonder at the lack of female units in ArmA, since in OFP they were part of the civilian units, which makes BIS take the most politically correct stance (not even using them as soldiers), I'm also of the oppinion that BIS shouldn't make children units of their own. I mean, seriously, we've got a talented addonmaking community that's able to churn out more and, as the past has shown, better addons than BIS, so leave it up to them. I must say that I've got the south korean kid in my OFP addon folder and I've never shot at it - actually one of the funniest pics I took was me as the kid standing on top of a BTR-60 I turned over during driving And in spite of the existance of that addon for OFP I've never heard any grand "virtual child abuse" cases in OFP nor did I see pics of it... So this whole point of controversy is a bit rather moot, since anybody with skill could make one for ArmA, and being a third-party addon you can either like it or don't, download it or don't... But BIS really shouldn't go through the effort of making such an addon, especially for those who are completely against it, they shouldn't be forced to have such an addon mandatorily present in their addon folder... mattxr 9 Posted May 21, 2007 BTW the only reason there wasnt kids in OFP was beciase you could not creat short or tall models becuase there was just 2 sizes male solider and woman civilian. Now we have a bone strutior it might be possible to do this. Thats why there wasnt in OFP except for the mini me soliders.

Actually there was this civilian kid from that south korean mod... but he admittedly looked like a scaled-down adult... and his walking animations are just... well... real funny! Dark_vityaz 0 Posted May 21, 2007 If BIS released kids for Arma, Arma would be taken out of shelves in a lot of countries.Apart from that, no, I do not need to have children in Arma. I can´t see how this should improve gameplay. Even Postal had no children...As for me,I dont know what I'll feel if I kill one child just by chance. (let it be out of children)
the unknown 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Quote[/b] ]If BIS released kids for Arma, Arma would be taken out of shelves in a lot of countries. Why would it be taken of the shelves, games like swat and rainbow6 had children in them they werent taken of the shelves
Balschoiw 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Quote[/b] ]Why would it be taken of the shelves As Arma would be rechecked by authorities and put on the index, that means : Not allowed to be sold, not even when you´re over 18. Games like Manhunt were put on the index here and as there is already a big discussion about violence in computergames you just don´t need to fuel the fire by adding children to a shooter. I know there are hardly any regulations for US customers but in europe they want to limit the shown gore and violence ingame. That means explicit images, splatter, gore, excessive violence etc, etc. As a lot of minors have acess to that games and some recent studies show a relation between playing violent games and behaving violent in real life (for kids and teens that is) I´d say a company like BIS would dig their own grave if they implemented debatable content. Same goes for excessive gore btw. If excessive gore would be in Arma with "stripped down" version for the european market, the game would be on the index and therefore could not be sold. There are games that have different , localized versions for different countries just because there are different legal terms and while it´s for example perfectly ok in the US to shoot some limbs off, it´s not in germany. Deadfast 43 Posted May 21, 2007 Women ? No problem in civilian class. Children ? No way ! I would never shoot child myself, however, I've seen several videos on YouTube where freaks are having fun killing unarmed civilians. I bet few of them would make a video of them having fun killing children. It's not worth the trouble.
mattxr 9 Posted May 21, 2007 I dowbt ArmA would be indexed if you could blow a guys head off with a 50cal. with all the blood splatter and gore
mattxr 9 Posted May 21, 2007 Anyone seen the FILM 28 Weeks later where this infected guy jumps onto the little boy and starts eating him in a savaged way... Id rarther see that kid getting a bullet in the head than getting savged like a dog.. You may say its just a film, but then i will say This is just a Game. They have it in films so why not computer games?
churnedfortaste 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Meh, videogames will become more and more horrifyingly life-like and violent as technology/tolerance advances... I don't think there would be a controversy about children being in the game, as they aren't real anyway, no one thinks twice about killing unarmed civillians so why would they care about virtual age? [aps]gnat 28 Posted May 21, 2007 A request for kids, written by kids! Take it from one who has just a few more years under his belt (probably twice as many as most here) that heading down this road will bring the wrath of the Media down on our heads. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow .... but just when you least expect it. I'm sure some of you may think that would be a laugh .... well the rest of us would like to keep our game and our online servers and our forums ..... .... many here no doubt have no idea what D&D players went through at one time .. that was mild, the media has far more power these days. dreday 1 Posted May 21, 2007 I fully agree with what [APS]Gnat has said above. I can't belive that this thread has grown to four pages. Some of the people of on this board have way too much time on their hands. I only wish that they would spend some of it thinking of the ideas that will trully improve the game play, rather than something that will have 0 effect on it and get the game banned in most countries. Peace, DreDay
abs 2 Posted May 21, 2007 ...you have to accept these models will be raped and molested... Are you serious? I was about to point out that I've never seen this happen with the OFP:R women models, when it just hit me that I had seen (well, heard of it) in THobson's mission. You didn't actually see it happening to the model; it was just part of her backstory, and it was tastefully done. I doubt that it would have had the same impact on me if it was a guy model talking about how he'd been raped at the hands of the enemy. I think that some are being too sensitive about this. The whole purpose of making addons is to facilitate missions. The whole purpose of making missions is to tell a story. Having child addons only facilitates the creative output of addon makers to evoke certain emotions from gamers, and I think it adds an extra dimension. Those who are worried about 'molestation and rape' being enjoyed by the sickos out there should realize that the solution isn't in preventing these models from being created, but by getting those said sickos some psychiatric help. Abs [EDIT: Speaking of children addons causing the banning of ArmA in most countries...if it's a user made addon, I don't see how it would ban the vanilla game which doesn't include children from the sheves.]
Daniel 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Women - Fine. They allow female users are more fitting avatar in game, they add atmosphere, they allow for more complex civilian games like Nogville. Children - Not so sure. To be honest I don't think they're worth the trouble. If you want a backstory to the lack of them, you can say they got evacuated. Women, however should be added by BIS, same as they were in Resistance.
