wipman 1 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi, looks very good; but are you sure that those are the ADF colours?, to me that desert yellow and that black tone look like closer to the russian tanks camo than to the ADF tones; but looks very good anyways. TankCommander 3 Posted January 18, 2009 In a nut shell these are the aussie colours. I've already changed them about thirty times as Arma always seems to make the colours different. And even reference photos have slight variations from pic to pic. But overall, they do look like that as you can see from the image below. http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/8748/20080415adf8248214070ul3.jpg http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/3690/1680x1050vbs2126ml1.jpg Still a work in progress however. TankCommander 3 Posted January 18, 2009 But if I was to replace my colours with the ones from that site, the overall look would be nothing like that of RL... It's more trial and error I've found. It's all about comparing it all to reference photos and seeing what does and doesnt work with Arma.
wipman 1 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi, to me the problem with the yellow that you've used is that it haves few red, so it looks much more yellow than light brown. Check this: Some Reference Photos. As you can see there as in the pic that you've put as example of the real thing colours, in booth cases what's yellow in your well done aussie LAV, it's light brown instead yellow. And the VBS2 pics have the colours bad too, i think that their aussie M1A1 haves better colours in therms of match the real ones. Let's C ya
TankCommander 3 Posted January 19, 2009 Hmm yeah I've had a bit of trouble getting the colours right. I see the yellow/brown to be more pinkish tan but when I add that to the colour, in Arma it comes out too pink or just very bright. Different from bulldozer to game. It seems I can't have any lighter or dull colours as ingame it just comes out nearly looking white. I'll show you a pic from bulldozer and the reference you sent... just try for myself to get better perspective. And of course if the ASLAV were in a sandy region, it would adapt it's colour in a way as all that sand and dust coats it.
soul_assassin 1750 Posted January 19, 2009 looks damn close to the real life vehicles to me Maybe try playing around with rvmat settings to get rid of that overexposure in game.
wld427 1705 Posted January 19, 2009 well as anyone can tell you that has been in the military (US anyways).... vehicles get painted once at the factory..... for eternity after that its updated by privates in the motor pool with rattle cans. No two vehicles ever match the same.... good luck with your paint job.... I need to get started on the RACS version.....
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted January 19, 2009 If I were painting one I'd probably tend to err on the side of darkness (i.e. a little bit darker than what you've got your ASLAV at the moment) just because too dark will probably look less dodge than too bright. It's a pity the HDR in ArmA mangles colours the way it does.
nephilim 0 Posted January 19, 2009 to add a little niggle the tire patterns on the game version dont match the ones of the RL one nice work

Yep, know what you mean. Drove me nuts tryingto get that colour right in game when I did some stuff for the ADF mod. Something ArmA does with any quantity of red screws up the wanted effect. I think though your very close, looks great.
pathetic_berserker 4 Posted January 19, 2009 Here are some pics of the footy stadium I've just (minutes ago) got into O2. A full stadium will consist of eight of theses pieces placed correctly. The 3 variations are a standard , a ramped (pedestrian), and a slightly eliptical piece with a tunnel through it. Though it is losely based on the older stands of the MCG I have taken great artistic licence to keep both my sanity, and, the pieces playable. Now its time for the grind of LOD making and maybe then a release. Depends on whether or not there is enough left in me by then for some neato destruction models. BTW I'm still chip'n away at the Wigla as well.
TankCommander 3 Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks guys and that's a good tip CamMac thanks. I'll try making it darker this time around. Also need to get these rvmats going before making further changes. And tires are still a WIP. Looking good on the stadium Berserker Finally some world class soccer matches on Sahrani
STALKERGB 6 Posted January 19, 2009 Hello! Just some pictures of some generic UKSF units i am doing at the moment, still tons to do on them and these are only the Assault element, there will be a recon element too but i have only just started on them. Done the weapons too, dunno how accurate to C8 SFWs mine are but they are just there to give you an idea. Larger Larger As i have said there is still loads to do and i went a bit overboard with the kneepads but i hope people like
-Chris- 0 Posted January 19, 2009 Very nice stalker! One thing I would say, is there any chance of having them without the '5.56' written on the ammo pouches? Never seen webbing with the calibre written on them.
bravo 6 0 Posted January 19, 2009 @Pathetic_Berserker I thought it was a parking garage with several levels hehe
PSYCHOSIM 0 Posted January 19, 2009 Very nice Stalker, Will there be models with bush hats, or are you just doing versions with helmets?
maza94 0 Posted January 19, 2009 @Stalker Can you make SaS?
STALKERGB 6 Posted January 19, 2009 @[Chris], yeah i can remove the 5.56 on the webbing, just kinda got bored a while back and wrote it on to make it more "personalised" but i dontthink i have actually seen it on webbing either. @PSYCHOSIM, Yeah there will be versions with bush hats in the recon units i will be doing, will get pictures up as soon as i can. @maza94, you might need to be a bit more specific on what you mean by SAS, the term SAS covers a heck of a lot of different specialist groups. Did you mean like counter terrorist SAS with gas masks and dark blue overalls? (if that made sense) kind of Iranian Embassy siege style or just SAS more generally i.e just with an SAS badge on the side of the arm?
Callsign 128 Posted January 19, 2009 @Stalker, great work so far, but try getting rid of the shemaghs for most of the guys, otherwise it will look more part of the uniform than a personal preference. Also the webbing pouches on a RAV vest like that would probably be green rather than DPM as the vest itself comes with tonnes of pouches included. SF guys get issued SF smocks with hoods, so that would be another addition to add (not that anyone wears the hoods up though). For the ultimate SF look, add some muddy US tri-colour desert trousers to some of the guys, desert boots or normal issue boots, sungigs instead of the goggles on helmets and the safety glasses and stubble :P
STALKERGB 6 Posted January 19, 2009 @bootneckofficer, yeah the shemaghs have just been copied over from one model to another and wont be on every unit when it comes to release and i do intend to attempt to make some hoods for the smocks. I was thinking of adding the 3 colour US pattern to some of the trousers too. Can you just clarify what exactly are sungigs?
