Sgt_Eversmann 1 Posted August 28, 2007 I'm not sure I understand the train of thought here. The Army had mostly left the island. The SLA had timed their attack for when the US Army was completely gone. By coincidence, a very small number were late leaving and were still there when the war started. The Marines arrived some time later, presumably being in the area at the time. The Army, Marine rivalry is even played out in some dialogue. "Let's not give those Marines a reason to say they had to come in here and save our shit!" They weren't 'mixing'. don't take my comment to serious. I did understand the campaign and the mixed unit reason

CameronMcDonald 146 Posted August 30, 2007 Teeny update: the DAPs and IOTV have been modelled by my insofar anonymous friend; the ACH straps have been touched up (excepting the rear padding, which still needs to be modelled a little bit more, I believe) and are awaiting UV unwrapping and texturing respectively. In the meantime I've been playing around a little bit with the gear pack released by DSA last year sometime and have found a good Camelbak model and a CB Hawk for the combat medic (although this isn't totally milspec, it saves my mate the hassle of having to make a new one from scratch; this and the Hawk is basically the model down from the current medic combined hydration/assault pack). Question: - What is the typefont used by the US Army on name tags? I need this one for whacking in names on the IOTV textures.
manzilla 1 Posted August 30, 2007 I think for names in length 10 and under it's called "block-style" and for names more then 10 letters I believe it called Franklin Gothic. My memory may be a little rusty though.
Clavicula_nox4817 0 Posted August 30, 2007 Yeah, I think that's right too.
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted August 30, 2007 Constructive criticism, please! - The model has the tube coming over the left shoulder. In some photos (donated by Olemissrebel, bless him!, the tube comes over the right. Is this true in reality, or can it be changed? - Still working on the normal maps, however, there just doesn't seem to be enough room to fit the damn name tape in properly. Thus people with long names will have trouble, if they decide to edit the textures. - A little bit o' DAP can be seen in the pic. Â - Still working on the normal maps of this one (at the moment they look a bit... scratchy), and I plan to add the clasps to the side of the CB too. Work continues! Note to self: ask DSA for permission before release.
stainer 0 Posted August 30, 2007 Camelback tubes can be swapped either side (at least they can on mine).

manzilla 1 Posted August 30, 2007 Yup. Every version since the second model used by the Army(I believe anyways) has a dual side connection. Don't take my word on that but regardless the hose can be connected on both sides as it currently stands.
Jblack 0 Posted September 2, 2007 oh please give us update pics and a release this plus CoC will make ArmA what OPF was!
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted September 2, 2007 Patience, mate - I'm usually a sucker for posting update pics in so remain tuned, however, I'm still waiting for the model to be completely unwrapped. Until this occurs I really can't do much except improve my CamelBak texture(s), as well as port weapons into my large weapon PBO for other purposes, but that's another story. Can't wait to start texturing this; it should (hopefully) end up looking fully seeeeek.

Moste righthanded ppl have the tube in the left (so when you take a drink you still have the gun in your stronghand and can shoot if needed). "the damn name tape". On my own camelbak i got the same problem, its simply made for short tapes. But on the other hand, nametapes can be made in hand with a marker... so no big trouble. Keep up the good work! CameronMcDonald 146 Posted September 10, 2007 @ CS - thanks mate, will do. @ Everyone - unfortunately, I've been rather busy, so updates are minimal, besides more work being done on the CBack's textures and general shape. Chances are I'll start up the CBack Hawk texture (for the medic) soon enough as well, once I get a little bit more time, probably midway through this week. I'm sorry for having so little to show. Good news, however, our anonymous modeller has been working on the model's UV maps itself some more, and tells me that although unfinished, he will add a checker map to it when he gets time to check the texture distortion, so things are still moving in that department.
