bravo 6 0 Posted May 4, 2007 why whould they be fixed? i think they are fine just the way they are. I understand what you mean.. but for that situation you can use a mod. for tracers. Check Tracer thread
max power 21 Posted May 4, 2007 when will we be able to turn off stupid HDR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vilas, HDR is an integral part of the game. It is the game. All the light values in the game are set up in a high range. This means that instead of a fraction of full brightness (100), light values are represented by a ratio of highest to lowest. You cannot get rid of it at all, ever. It's not possible. edit: Well maybe it is, but it would require a total rewrite of all the lights and shadows in arma, and a new engine with respect to how it handles light. I heared alot complains about it.. And i personally think in some situations its exagerated the light effect. I like the idea but its just exagerated. I like the idea but its just exagerated. Well, you can adjust it by playing with the precision in the config file. Doing that eliminates the sun bloom effect when you are staring at sun, though, (at least last I checked) which could be considered cheating in multiplayer. This was on the buglist, I'm not sure if it was fixed or not. I think that the problems most people are having are hardware related, as I don't have the troubles you guys are describing. I'm not diminishing your problems by saying that, but the problems may exist only because they can't be replicated on every machine.

It was not so exagerated then before, but it still exists. I know time will tell.. so i wait for better light simulation in future patchs edit: typo

Well there's this little option in the config panel that is suppose to let you enable or disable tracers that to this day BIS has not corrected (PBO). I looked at the thread you supplied and that's certainly looking good BUT it still doesn't remove the default ridiculous razor thin laser beam tracers from BIS (well it can be done by altering the transparency, but again why should we fix a feature that is supposed to toggled from the menu). Maddmatt 1 Posted May 4, 2007 Quote[/b] ]when will we be able to turn off stupid HDR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Besides, how about instead of REMOVE, simply FIX? As already stated, change it to 16bit. 8bit probably shouldn't have been the default, since that is where the bugs with things being too bright and the rapid light changes happen. If you have a problem with HDR, open the player profile in wordpad and change the HDRprecision value to 16. That will eliminate the weired bugs, too bad you lose the sunflare but hopefully that will get fixed.
Trapper 0 Posted May 4, 2007 Madmatt I'm wondering is this really changing the HDR to something better or will it just be disabled because 16 is unknown? You already said that the sun flare disappears and to me it seems like every darkness/brightness effect is gone afterwards. Only the spotlight and direct sun glare effects remain. Also I had to add HDRPrecision manually to my config, there was no entry. That's strange because I've read it there month ago in an earlier ArmA version. That's strange because I've read it there month ago in an earlier ArmA version. As was stated by the ArmA lead programmer before, HDR cannot be disabled in ArmA. Because of the lighting values used in the game (including the textures), losing the 'eye-adjustment' would probably make you blind in game. If you had to add it manually, then are you sure you opened the right file? It's called ArmA.cfg. Losing the sun flare effect does seem to be a bug. Personally I just leave HDRprecision at 8 because it doesn't really bother me and I like the sun flare effect, it's just that some people are fussy or seem to have problems with the HDR at 8. vilas 477 Posted May 4, 2007 at least now there is no problems when i turn that all becames so dark or so bright in shadows maybe you call it super HDR - for me it is cause to uninstal, i cannot get back money given for PC bought specially under ARMA HDR takes a fun of playing, in RTCW, MOHAA, COD2 , SOF2, AVP2 (my favorite games, i still lay RTCW , MOHAA and it gives me a lot of fun ) there is no such thing like HDR i felt in love in OFP because this game was most editable game ever ARMA also allows me to put Polish troops in it, i can put car (POLONEZ) of my friend, i can put submachinegun RAK which i had in my mothers work (army), i can put some policemans and kill some bandits made by me - thats why i play it, because of editable ability, because i can do my missions, my weapons, my country army, for me ARMA is just "platform engine" to my addons, my missions HDR takes away fun and is annoying and f*** enjoy i hope in next patch soldier will be able to jump otherwise smallest fence is big problem, for me it is nonsense that soldier cant jump :/ in Poland ARMA is advertised as "most realistic battlefield simulator software" so why soldier cannot jump on small fence and i have to go many meters to find hole :/ if there is HDR let it be realistic in shaded places there should be darker than in open field there cannot be situation in which in car or room i have brighter than i go out and i am in open field

Hopefully some driver patches or something stops the problem. You seem to be quite frustrated! I don't think they are going to be implimenting a jump button though, unfortunately. Most realistic battlefield simulator, yes... but that doesn't cry out for a jump button.

vilas 477 Posted May 4, 2007 new PC bought for ARMA in december 2006, NVIDIA 7900 256 ram, so what software problems ? COD2 works good, DOOM worked good, maybe Starforce in PL version can f*** some perfromance but it doesn't have anything to HDR in your game, when you are in shadow everything is dark, or becames brightfull ? when you are in open field does all becomes 2 times darker than in shadow ? That definitely sounds like some kind of problem you are having. Does your monitor have any kind of auto-brightness feature or something that dynamically changes image settings? I have seen some people say that turning such features off got rid of those problems. I remember some guy uploaded a video on YouTube showing the HDR on his machine, it looked really messed up and kept changing brightness levels a lot with small movements. What drivers you use? 93.71 would probably be the best for your card. Open fields look pretty bright to me when the sun is up. Edit: @benreeper: Look in the ArmA news section for the changelog. vilas 477 Posted May 5, 2007 i have LCD 19 '' monitor Syncmaster 971P yeah, this what was on youtube is on my PC :/ small turn and brightness changes like hell even when you fire machine gun auto fire long serie of fire and game turns darker for moment 6.14.10.9371 drivers version now i have HDR 16 , but sun doesn't blind my eyes, it is just white round object on sky when HDR 8 game was annoying so much, now better at

If it's the one I'm thinking of then something is definitely wrong. I had a look at you monitor specs here. It mentions "Magictuneâ„¢ w/ asset management, MagicColorâ„¢, magicBright IIâ„¢, MagicRotationâ„¢, MagicStandâ„¢, w/ MagicSpeedâ„¢". Can you turn these off? The brightness and colour ones might be causing problems. Also, in game brightness and maybe brightness in graphics driver options might be messing with it. Maybe default values would help. This is a pretty hard thing to sort out. "even when you fire machine gun auto fire long serie of fire and game turns darker for moment". Does that happen in the middle of the day or only when it is a bit dark? Maybe it should be reported on the bugtracker that the sun flare effect is lost when HDR is set to 16bit.
