TrackIR Explained

Recommended Posts

We’ve just posted a video on YouTube that sums up what TrackIR brings to the table, please do check it out

Basically one of our guys runs through how the motion sensing works, and shows examples of the cool new things it offers in the various flight, racing and FPS games that have special support for it.

I like the TrackIR device, but I definately do not like the spamming done by the developers of it. Like this thread is nothing but an advertisement, it could at least have been posted to the existing TrackIR thread. They also spam youtube video comments with ad links. Buy some real ad space instead of exploiting free services.

Well said.

This doesn't paint a very decent picture of natural point. I would be surprised to think that NP management authorized this.

oowwweerr Lets pick on someone because we have nothing better to do crazy_o.gif

Maybe the post could have been put into the exsisting TIR thread but then again there is the interest in TIR so why not have one that is dedicated to TIR that is clean from the word go so no need to troll through loads of other useless posts, and hopefully the TR Developers will show more interest in their product here than the Dev's at BIS have shown in theirs.

I welcome this post about TIR as long as it stays on track with TIR specific questions and answers, If the product can get free advertising so be it, thats the name of the game in the business . whistle.gif

We are just trying to show the technology that TrackIR brings to the table.

Some people have never seen what it can do for your basic game play, and with the imminent release of ArmA in the UK....

Also, I'm always more than happy to answer any questions....

I think its nice that the creators of the TIR come here and explain the product themselves. Nice and informative video, Vincent. smile_o.gif

*Ouch* you guys are harsh. It isn't like they put banner ads and pop ups all over the forums. It was just one small post showing how trackir works in the game. No where did it say BUY ME NOW - CLICK HERE.

Considering that TrackIR supports Armed Assault you should cut them some slack.

Trackir seems ok (it should, its expensive) but i dislike the late trend to upload adverts on youtube.

Ubisoft for example is uploading promo trailers there and posting links to them on their sites mad_o.gif .

i think its good that you put out trailers and stuff on youtube cause sometimes its painfully slow to wait on some file bla bla bla or other gaming netork site in 1 hour or more to view a 100 mb trailer or something crazy_o.gif

One small post here, one small post on my youtube video comments, one small post on my other youtube video comments and so on. It's advertising and also spam just as much as all that viagra junk many of us get to our email box.

Did  BIS approve this ad prior to the post?

the problem is the arma content is about 5% of the whole vid.

its nice of you to show what it can do .

its a nice advertisement for trackr if i had ms simulator and you was even pressing the lean buttons to compensate for lack of movement ?

prove me wrong make a real arma trackr video solely for arma and i might be interested.;)

I think it looks awesome. Will we be able to head-butt our enemies?

All seriousness aside though, it would be mighty handy while flying around that island, 'specially when you've got a chopper full of squadmates who'll get mad at you if you try to drop them off near an enemy squad with anti-aircraft capability. A quick glance around during a tricky landing could make you think twice.

Don't get me wrong. smile_o.gif

I LOVE my tir4, but it does seem like advertising at the expense of another TIR thread and bis property. When I saw the video it made me think of a tactic from a used auto salesman (no offense to the guy in the video).

But I guess if it helps another gamer discover something cool, FINE. nener.gifwink_o.gif

So you tilt your head and keep your eyes on the screen... I would probably end up with not much more than sore eyes, a sore neck and a dent in my bank balance.

I would consider one if I spent any time playing flight sims... but I don't.. wink_o.gif

Well put... you know the only reason it has thumbs up is because of the syncronized back-rubbing going on between Track-IR and ArmA.

[EDIT] Now that I think of it... spam posts are easier to ignore than those annoying pop-ups or side-scrolling banners.

Hey Guys, I'm the chubby babbler that made (thought up, shot, spoke in, edited) the video. Wanted to chime in.

This vid is an attempt to separate TrackIR's tech from sleazy advertising. Seriously. Because the most popular ArmA video we have right now is a 20 minute long fan film that repeatedly pimp's this guy's discount URL. I can't send that to game developers and publishers, when they've never heard of us before.

Kevin put it on youtube so it wouldn't be as daunting as offering a 42 MB video to download. I'm sending it to the dev dudes i'm hoping to meet with at the Game Developer Conference next month. And I hoped it might interest other tech enthusiast geeks like me, who follow crazy gizmos and research.

This morning I asked Vince if he could post it on the handful of forums where he answers TrackIR questions, so people who are TrackIR-aware could see it and comment. I'm mostly curious if people here are like "oh, I get it now. i don't have to look away from my monitor," or "geez, i never realized you could nod at teammates in multiplayer - that's tight."

I'd also like to hear what i left out, or if I failed to get something across.

I can't think of a better place to get that feedback. You are the guys who'll be playing this game the most, and are most likely to have strong ideas on where TrackIR is most useful.

Please keep in mind that ArmA is the only modern FPS game that currently has special support for TrackIR. Please keep in mind that I'll be showing ArmA to every game developer I can, as an example of what they should be doing.

You're thoughts on TrackIR usage in the game are very likely to influence the future of FPS gameplay.

(so pleeeeeease don't associate my efforts with this video as viagra/spam).

Thanks to the TIR people for the post. ARMA is one of the few game that supports the TIR device. I have never played a sim before and that's what ARMA is, a combat sim. It took me a bit to figure out what the TIR references where in the demo, but a bit of research, it seems a pretty cool device.

I have no problem that the TIR representatives are posting here, considering that BIS fully supports the hard ware within the game.

I would rather see TIR representatives posting here, maybe offering a special, than any other form of "advertising" for the product.

Thanks for the info.

I'd also like to hear what i left out, or if I failed to get something across.

The only thing that comes to mind would be full 6DOF.

Might not be required as a soldier (that would require new anims), but when inside vehicles and aircrafts it would help alot. Should be doable as I've already seen a fan-video of it.
