i stumbled upon that thing wich is sposed to replace the traditional aimpoint, does anybody has a little idea on how it work and if it's doable in ArmA?

lol

doable when mod tools are out.

howto make it:

Use a 3d programm and model + texture it.

Import it into the new O2 version on a weapon.

put the eye-point on the right place

save

config

voila.

yeah but what is different between these "holo" sights and a classic aimpoint?

Well, they could surely model it, but I don't think they could simulate it. As far as I know, those things as well as reflex sights are calibrated to be a point where the bullet would go down range somewhere... so when you move your head, the point changes rather than staying in the centre like a texture would.

the shifting of the sight can be easiliy simulated by a parallax effect...

anyone that ever worked with matte paintings and movie scenes will know what that is

I wonder if its possible to make a real holographic effect with a reticle texture wich is placed about one meter (i know that the Eo has virtual 45 meters but i think it doesnt really matter) before the weaponmodel and put a alphatexture on the window of the Eo (or Aimpoint or whatever) wich has the ability to see the reticle through everything that it can't be hidden behind something. Just like the OFP bug with some Windows where you can see through everything except some faces with a special texture.

I hope somebody understands what I want to say...

If so do you think its possible?

i think it's possible, if you look in humvees when you are inside, the grass never show inside the humvee even if you are driving through a bush

Yes it's the old .pac/.paa "bug" that many addon makers

exploited for some cool effects (eg. for mimicking

weapon "animations" and such).

Technically speaking, its doable now. You just have to be a little....creative.

Yes I understand. And I hope its doable. Because right now the aimpoint do not serve its purpose..

Interesting statement. What do you mean?

All red dot / reflex / holographic sights were designed to be used in the both-eyes-open method. By trickery of eye, the reticule appears to be floating over the target without any real need of "scoping in."

Someone with experience can explain it better, but for now here's some reading.

Its a side effect of human stereoscopic vision, something which is very hard to re-create on a single PC monitor.

Its being faked at the moment by simply moving the 3d weapon model into the players line of sight, the problem there is that the model has to be what the player sees both in the scope view and in the normal view, so some sort of shader (an attempt at which - depth of field at least - is available with post processing on "high") would need to be applied to simulate the stereoscopic effect when looking down the optics with both eyes open.

Achievable, but very hard to achieve...

remind me the aiming problem when i use the stereoscopic nvidia driver, impossible to aim with it on tounge2.gif

"technically its doable now"

Not with correct lighting and maps it aint! biggrin_o.gif

Yes, it is. Lighting is fine, and you don't notice the lack of normal/bump maps because you're too busy firing at Northern Sahrani troops.

My problem is that the only way to aim is to have the eye exactly in the right position. So if you move the weapon while walking the dot will not show you the point of impact wich a reallife reddot does. It is parallax-free so the angle you look through the sight will not affect the precision of the aim.

As soon as Oxygen is available i will have a look if i can actually do this. Everyone else who wants to can try himself but if you get it to work give me a credit  wink_o.gif
