Vix Stryker

Recommended Posts

From my recent experience with addons, the more realistic you try to make it act, the more scripts you need, and the more complex they get. This makes some addons virtually unplayable in a game situation (at least on my computer, which well exceeds OFP recommended specs). By using the simple solution of additional armor, we have a reasonable representation of the effect spaced armor will have on the warhead. For example, I'm not sure if your script accounts for something like a maverick missle, which uses a larger warhead, and kinetic energy to destroy targets.

My script only works against RPGs (and anything that inherits from the RPG-class). I don't think slat armor "works" against anything else.

Hello D-Scythe,Lamentin,

I agree that stuffing an addon with lots of scripting,is sure

to reduce fps.But this one is only called on an incoming

missile event, rather than running in the background. So it's

not likely to cause problems with performance.

I also think it's a good way of differenciating between

a "standard" and "slatted" version, while keeping the

base armor settings the same.

And of course the Slat armour versus RPG round is

fairly relevant. From what info I've read, that seems to be

the particular reason for it's introduction on the Stryker.

Just tryin to keep things manageable wink_o.gif

Here are a few pics should there be any interest in expanding the Slat armor.  The first is a Stryker that survived an IED, and serves as a testament as to why it should be in OFP.

As you can see from these pictures (CGI one excluded  whistle.gif ) we can make the slat armor go all the way around the Stryker.

I'm going to look into how we can get those turret smoke launchers to work ... plenty of examples out there pistols.gif

Hey Lamentin,

One or two pics there I haven't seen before.

They'll come in handy for reference.

And as far as the launchers go,that's your call.

Although I dabble in it,scripting isn't my strong

suit.

It'd be nice to have the smoke launchers actually

work though.

mostly I used the interior out of the North Star Candian LAV III seeing its the same damn vehicle just we added more electronics to it and the new gunners station.. Driver and troop area should be unchanged. Think I had animated the rear hatches on it as well, but I dropped the project when Vixer was working on it. And I was getting ready to deploy..

Hey wow, I'm glad to see someone actually started to pick this project back up off of the ground. I don't really know anything about addons but I am currently serving in a stryker unit if you guys need a reference.

Favonious:

Pictures would be useful. Also, just out of curiousity, what is your opinon of the Stryker compared to a tracked vehicle.

Hey Lamentin,

Alright, I've got tons of pictures just tell me what you need.

Wow where do I start? The Stryker, in my opinion, is the most effective personnel carrier in the US Army. It is faster, more agile, more reliable, and more efficent than an M113. I've rarely seen a Stryker develop a problem in the field which has rendered it ineffective. The weapon systems on a Stryker are much more imppressive than on the track vehicle. The ICV, and CV are equipped with RWS (Remote Weapon Systems) which are operated by the VC (Vehicle Commander) and can be used without exposing the VC to enemy fire. In addition the vehicles are fitted with rear air guard hatches, so that the squad in the back can help provide the vehicle's rear security. A track vehicle relies heavily on it's armor and weapon system to provide security. On the other hand, the most leathal part of a Stryker is the squad it carries inside. With the ability to protect itself and kick out the infantry in a matter of seconds it's an unstoppable duo. Not to mention it's very easily moddified. There are 10 different version of the Stryker including an ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle), CV (Commander Variant), MEV (Medical Evacuation Variant), MCV (Mortar Carrier Variant - Equipped with a 120mm Mortar mounted in the back of the truck), etc. It's an awesome vehicle really.

Hello Favonious,Lamentin,

Seems the Stryker's quite a controversial

vehicle.Some military analysts/journalists

and a number of others obviously don't like it

very much. But seeing as they don't actually

have to go into combat in one,I'm personally

inclined to take the word of the people who

use/have used it on a daily basis.

Anyway,

I'll try to upload some work within the next

few days.I've gone a bit further than I'd

planned,so it's gotten a new paint job,top

to bottom. Some areas of the mesh were

tidied up/added also.Mostly subtle stuff.

I made the driver hatch openable. So you'll get

a wider field of view during quiet periods.

Although the driver view won't be 100%

acccurate,given the class limitations.But I

think it works.

I don't know if I could extend to doing

any other variants than the ICV.But at the

very least there'll be a basic template to

modify.

Well, the Stryker does have its small flaws but I'm going to stand next to my vehicle.  I've never heard of another vehicle that hit an IED, which blew out all eight tires and the vehicle still drove 5K back to the FOB.  I am deploying soon with the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, and I feel confident that the vehicle will keep me safe and bring me back home.

Anyways, just for the hell of it, on the topic of different variants I thought I'd post some pictures of my vehicle.

Pants... Err, The mods don't like it when you type in all caps. I also beleive its against the rules...

Anyway...

Maybe if these are complete soon they could be added into the FFSX2007 mod's next patch. Then it WILL be 2007, properly.

Noooooooooo!!! While I think its fine if Thunderbird84 and his team use it, I would hate to see it as only released again as part of a huge mod pack that not everyone will use.

At any rate, to Pants: No worries mate, a new version of this Stryker (Vastly improved) will be coming soon.

So hold you horses and don't post in all caps.

Nuff said biggrin_o.gif

We are interested in contacting someone from DKM mod about using the suspension script, and vehicle burning script (Directly out of DKMM_RSC if possible.  Everyone should have something from DKM that requires it anyway  inlove.gif ).

Why reinvent the wheel  pistols.gif

Hello,

Sorry I've been takin so long with it,I've been

busy with one or two other things. But the stryker's

comin along nicely.It won't be 100% accurate,given

limitations of the engine and the "car" class.

But I think it's a decent enough attempt.

Hopefully anyone with an interest in this particular

vehicle will agree.

I tried to keep the polycount roughly the same as the original,

but bring up the texture quality.Although,I have

added a bit,especially with the interior.Also,as you

can see from Lamentin's pics the driver's hatch opens.

Not just for "looks",but to give a better field of view.As the

closed position is obviously limited.Of course, while it's open

you run the risk of being shot.As you would expect.

Macser.

the formentioned scripts were made avialbe to the mod makers, some time ago even comes with tuts on how to install them on the vehicles, mainly have to comb the sites to get the files to make them work. and remember to credit them for using it.. Maybe OFP edit.. most of the DKM mod guys are long gone anyway and moved on to other projects.

It will be a great addition to any addon folder. A question about the Armour though. We all heard from the news that the Stryker can be vulnerable to even the RPG-7. How is this modeled ingame and what difference the slat armor will make?

Hello,

Atm the slat version uses D-scythe's script.Which

detects whether or not the incoming round is an

RPG.Depending on a random value within a range,

the script decides on allowing a full damage RPG

hit,or a hit from a less powerful version.Which is

defined in the config.

So rather than giving the "slat" stryker a higher

armour rating. The script tries to make a hit less

predictable,without making the vehicle "invincible".

In vanilla OFP that can be anywhere from 1 or 2

strikes,up to around six.In my Experience anyway.

But I think it still needs some testing.
