Germany 1985

Hello Flashpointers and soon-to-be ArmAssassins:

Earlier this year, several leading OFP mod teams came together with a common vision and purpose. The Bundeswehr mod, Lowland Warrior mod, CSLA mod, Red Hammer Studios, Combat!, and several leading independent addon makers are proud to announce:

Germany 1985 – a modification for Armed Assault.

As you might expect, the mod will cover a hypothetical war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact in 1985, with a storyline derived from Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising. Initial work on the mod is already well underway and will pick up significantly once Armed Assault is in our hands, the capabilities of the new game engine are better understood and the required modding tools are available.

Each mod team will use standardized values (derived from JAM, CAVS, and likely ACES) and will work on a sort of “plug-in†system, where each team works on their own modules that plug into the core G85 game. Models, textures, terrain and expertise is shared amongst all members to ensure the high quality you’d expect from these mod teams.

We’re also looking for new talent to help out – we currently do not have partners working on some of the NATO and Pact countries (Denmark, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, France, UK, among others). That's all you had to say in order to get my attention. I've long wondered why no-one mentioned that novel in relation to an OFP mod, although it would be even better for Arma.

If anyone else is looking for ideas for a new mod - Russia v China (The Bear and the Dragon by Clancy) is also a good scenerio.

On topic - the mod sounds awesome. Will look forward to all your WIP and releases with baited breath.

Might even have to donate my 70's/80's NATO air defence radar, I'm pretty sure there was one or two of these in Germany smile_o.gif

We might oblige you with that. We're always looking for things to spice up our world and this would make a good target for Spetznaz in the opening moments of the war or an interesting objective for an MP mission. smile_o.gif

Oh this sounds cool.. Making a complete mod is very tough so it's great that you've managed to come up with an organized collaboration between several studios/mods.

You said that you have some modding tools ! Could we have more info about that. What tool do you have ? Could you make some review of the new capabilities and functions of Visitor 3 and Oxygen light 2 ?

So how soon do you plan to get the mod out? Are we talking about months or a year?

It depends on BIS and how quickly they give us the knowledge and tools needed. We've got lots of stuff modelled already, but know almost nothing about how to convert existing models into Arma, what tools we'll have, etc.

Worst case scenario is that BIS holds onto all their tools for a year or two after the game is released - like they did with OFP. If that's the case it'll be a matter of wait-and-see.

If the conversion process is as easy as advertised, we could get an initial mod up and running rather quickly using updated models that were already released/developed for OFP. If we have to start a lot of things from scratch it'll take longer.

Sounds very interesting, and as we have all seen what the people involved have done wih OFP/VBS engine , the quality and interest of this mod will be very high .

We have no tools. We are banking on the comments in a couple interviews that the tools will be released prior to the release of ArmA. So, in a perfect world, that would be before November 10th.

The lack of information about tools is quite worrying. We've got the Wiki, we've got the mapfact preview about the tools. We also know that BIS plan to give them a long time before the release of Arma in order to form the community... But, there is still nothing...

Placebo have you some news about the tools ?

Apparently BIS won't do that, unless they consider "a long time before the release" to be a rather short time...or unless they plan to postpone the game another few months whistle.gif

Looks very interesting. Altho I am German descendant.I know little about this stuff.
