Rainbow Six: Vegas

Recommended Posts

When I first saw this thread title in another forum, I thought it was a joke post or some sort of movie poking fun at R6.

Quote[/b] ]Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it is developing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas for next-generation and current-generation video game consoles. Scheduled for a fall 2006 release and developed by Ubisoft’s award-winning Montreal studio, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas is the fifth iteration of the multimillion-selling Rainbow Six tactical shooter franchise.

The stakes are high when the world’s most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, where over 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. “Sin City,†the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. What happens when one of the world’s most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists? Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas will be Team Rainbow’s next-generation console debut on the heels of the critically acclaimed Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and the highly anticipated Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent. Today, with more than 13.5 million units sold worldwide, the Rainbow Six franchise is known as one of the best multiplayer experiences and is hailed for its immersive single-player games.

Rainbow Six Vegas will push the envelope of technology through graphics, artificial intelligence, physics and animations created by Ubisoft’s award-winning Montreal studios, which house some of the world’s best talent, including Senior Producer Chadi Lebbos who was the lead on Rainbow Six 3 and former Hollywood animator Aaron Gilman who worked on such feature films as Hellboy, Constantine and The Matrix Revolutions.

“Rainbow Six is back and better than ever,†said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft. “Building upon the online success of the Rainbow Six franchise and harnessing the power of the next-generation experience, Rainbow Six Vegas will be the benchmark against which all next-generation games will be measured. With Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter being released this month to wide critical acclaim, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent also due out this year, Rainbow Six Vegas makes it a perfect trifecta for the Clancy series in 2006.â€

lockdown sucked. Unrealistic, not true to previous titles, and was medicore in fun and gameplay.

I somehow have a feeling this will be the same. Stupid idea, stationing it out of vegas. Where's the feeling of a round-the world and round-the clock multi-national elite counterterrosim team when its based out of one city?

Looks like too much attention is paid to graphics and not enough to gameplay. I don't need flashy grahpics in a tactical simulator.

In the second pic, you can see the empty brass flying out and it even has proper primer image(with dent), and overall graphic is great. However, from last few RS series, it's been disappointing so I'm not getting hopes up.

The city light graphic is great, but I doubt it is playable image. Besides, Bellagio fountain looks a little too big than it really is. wink_o.gif

Can someone tell me whats so special about the graphics?

All I see is a bunch of low-res screens with alot of bright textures and what looks to be very arcadish game staying true to Lockdown.

LOCKDOWN ? LET DOWN !

Played the demo of Lockdown and almost dropped from my chair laughing while watching my team mates in action. ("WE'RE UNDER FIRE!!! MUMMYYYY!")

I then compared the product description of Lockdown with my impression and laughed again. 'AI' has nothing to do with it, even those pacman ghosts were smarter. (back in 80s!wink_o.gif

It's quite obvious that Ubisoft doesn't care what the original R6 series was about and why is became so famous (back in 95!wink_o.gif. If they can show screens of the next title so close after the release of Lockdown it's also quite obvious they don't care about fan feedback or game mag critism. Maybe that vegas level was to make it into Lockdown or the next patch, who knows ? Somebody at Ubisoft must've decided to expand it into the next game theme now that Lockdown was bashed. (i don't think there'll be any patches for Lockdown anyway)

Ubisoft slowly turns into EA really (my personal opinion).

Nothing left to express in words about the downfall of the once mighty Rainbow 6 series, so I will say it in Pixels:

RB6 Rogue Spear was my all time favorite tactical game. Too bad my CD is now broken and I can now longer play that game.

RB6 lockdown is not the same and the series is moving towards arcade style gameplay. The same for Ghost Recon. The first game was f*cking awesome, but now that they want to reach all game-platforms they seriously downgraded the tactical gameplay sad_o.gifsad_o.gif

Thank god Armed Assault is not moving the same way and is staying true to the good old OFP formula. If I want an arcade game I'll play counter-strike source or battlefield2, both awesome arcade games. But don't try to spies up a good tactical game by making it more arcade style.

I kinda figured the R6 franchise wouldn't last after R6:3, and its sad to see it go down in this way. But at least we have dev teams like BIS who wont give in to corporate greed and at the same time deliver a worthy product. smile_o.gif

Probably only set it in Vegas so they can show a new lighting engine and bright lights.

Looks like more and more developers are going into `underground` themes... Did they say you`ll be able to upgrade your soldier with a tatoo or something? Soundtrack? Maybe some gangsta hip hop music?

r6 is dead, GR is dead too

The license is now really dead, 2 successive games that has nothing to do with what is the essence of Rainbow Six, that's really sad.

It seems for those dev/publishers , the last trend is to make average shooters, and as long as such average shooters involves counter terrorists and terrorists, you put a Rainbow Six name and think it will sell a lot.

I doubt this marketing strategy will work, as the "average shooter" market is already full of game "clones" , and some are already using the same kind of "counter terrorist vs terrorist" environment.

How about going back to the root of what is a good game instead of thinking "a name will sell any kind of average shooter".

I think the problem is more with the publishers then with the developers. Most game studios produce quite good games until they're bought by big publishers.

Coming Soon:

Rainbow6:Playboy Mansion

The rainbow team is charged with using their "guns" and finding as many "bazookas" as they can in the terrorist haven known as The Playboy Mansion

Rainbow6:Cheney Quail Ranch

The R6 team is given the unique challenge of dismantling explosive quail pens whilst the ever present threat of Vice President buckshot hangs in the air.

Rainbow6:New Orleans

The R6 does Navy Seals training and learns to swim through carcass infested waters in order to liberate white food "appropriators" and eliminate the African American "looter" threat.

Please note: This is all in good fun and terribly sarcastic. Think before flaming me please. smile_o.gif

Rainbow6:The Saddam Trials

The R6 team take a well deserved break and watch the comical extrvaganza that is the Saddam Hussein war crime trial. They witness the extraordinary comic genius of Saddam as he belittles every witness and protests his innocence whilst signing future death orders for those who take the stand.

Remember when the naming convention for A Rainbow Six game was that the initials would be RS? Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear and then heck even Raven Shield. Now Las Vegas!? What's next, Rainbow Six: Spring Break

I wish they would quit using the Rainbow Six name on these first person shooters. That'll never happen though as they spent good money on that trademark.

In the end it also completely finishes off any respect I had for Tom Clancy. I know he has nothing to do with the game, but still him allowing his name to be branded on such junk really hurts his credibility. Not that he's wrote a decent book in years either.

I wonder what might have been, if Red Storm had never gotten sold to UBI and had instead stayed independent. Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon were great games.

It's a contract and he's just making money. I agree with you on the books, though. Seems like he's lost his touch with well-researched intelligent thrillers. Right now the books are all the same and are quite shallow. A real shame.
