aus_twisted 0 Posted February 26, 2006 THANKYOU JDB!Someone else is starting to realise how silly modern day graphics are! The military does not paint it's stuff so that it reflects light, quite the opposite! *jinef mutters* Told BIS a year ago ... *jinef mutters* The lighting looks pretty good to me, military vehicles use non reflective materials with a flat coated paint obviously, but even still the brightness of the sun will cause some reflection on the vehicle. Look at the sun reflection on this F-15C I took at last years Australian International Airshow, do you think they paint those in a gloss finish? lol http://members.optushome.com.au/twisted1/2005_aus_airshow/100_1749.jpg Another good example of sun reflecting on a F-111 - http://members.optushome.com.au/twisted1/2005_aus_airshow/100_1838.jpg

Same goes for the silver/gray F111. Also round surfaces (as in the many planes) blend the light (reflect) better then flat surfaces (as in the APC).
Zerg 0 Posted February 26, 2006 swimming with gear on is so arcadish Who`s to know if you carry full gear at all times. I remember a mission in CWC where you were a shot down Cobra pilot that needed to escape from captivity. You were pretty plaincloathed in that mission. EDIT: Got ridd of the quote loop. JdB 151 Posted February 26, 2006 swimming with gear on is so arcadish Who`s to know if you carry full gear at all times. Navy Seals anyone? When they jump out of airplanes into the sea they have to swim with their equipment too (although I can imagine that they won't take the heaviest weapons available in such cases). Nixer6 0 Posted February 27, 2006 How did you work on AI? What changes will it have from OFP? Mostly the feeling you are a part of giant machinery, which evolves with events, but not only by one of them. Your companions obey your orders, they react on different battlefield situations and of course your enemies try to find a weak spot in your defence - they plan outflanking, call reinforcements and if they are not in advantage they don't draw the attention. From OFP we have removed many bugs and AI better uses the output of your computer. your enemies try to find a weak spot in your defence - they plan outflanking, call reinforcements and if they are not in advantage they don't draw the attention

Yah, but don't they carry like limited gear and special diving suits and stuff? @ Nixer6: That's just routine stuff. AI in all games have been doing that (at least acording to press releases ) since 1998. I wouldn't hope for too many changes.

Well lets just check the most popular games: CoD1/2: No BF2: No Fear: Supposed to but not noticable in such small corners FC: Yes/sometimes scripted HL2: No Name some others, but it was either not noticable or it was scripted, i could atcually see in work in a flashpoint enviroment. Nixer6 0 Posted February 27, 2006 That's just routine stuff Not any routines that I have seen, at least in OFP and a couple of others I have played. I'd buy any combat sim with really intelligent AI, NOW!

If i remember correctly our 111's are camo'd color not silver/grey Unless they resprayed them in the last 18months but i doubt it with all the new toys and gizzmos we've just bought It shines coz ozzy sun so bloody harsh Quote Navy Seals anyone? When they jump out of airplanes into the sea they have to swim with their equipment too (although I can imagine that they won't take the heaviest weapons available in such cases). Well that depends on mission requirements. And its not only S.E.A.L's that do this, most(well good ones atleast) special forces learn this. I've heard many stories from my old man about these missions practiced by the SAS. And the loads arent excactly light by any stretch of the imagination. But nowdays with the improvement in underwater vehicles long swims to the shore are made easier so more can be carried Only problem is with the more of these missions you do the more likely you are to damage you eardrums and after a while it is impossible to do these without intense pains. Besides HILO jumps what about insertion by sub? EVERY spec op learns how to do these, and if we cant swim we cant do these(unless something like CoC Divers addon is made). And about shiny things/vehicles in games, no game takes into account, as someone else pointed out, that different materials reflect light differently. It would look so funny seeing a shiny vehicle coming at me 3000m+ away and i can track it without any aid. If it was any enemy they would be toast. It comes down to camoflage and that in itself is a realism issue! I guess well have to wait untill more info/screenshots are released.
FCOPZ-illuminator 0 Posted February 27, 2006 A "short distance swimming" should be avaiable. Maybe swim 50 meters....and the soldier goes....*blub* *blub* *blub* Because, if you shot down over the beach and you are landing with your parachute 10 m away from the beach, you will die...., thats not funny. Of course a "normal" swimming ability would be bad, but a "short distance swimming" would be great. Maybe this is a option for the first ArmA patch *gg* Â
Hurby 0 Posted February 27, 2006 Maybe this is a option for the first ArmA patch *gg* Well maybe, but IMHO they would have to change the engine and I don't think they would like to do that...

jtec 0 Posted February 27, 2006 Shame swimming is not a option as like you guys state when parachuting and landing in water you die straight away is a bit silly. Pilots only normally have a sidearm and thats it (not heavy) Surely they can at least have some lifejacket which allows you to paddle or something to the shore? Jezz 0 Posted February 27, 2006 Maybe will be able to control our parachutes, wouldnt bet on it though

ryankaplan 1 Posted February 27, 2006 i hope they have made ai improvements on single soldiers as well. At the moment all i've heard is about squad based ai. OFP's squad based ai is already not bad (even though, most people don't notice it.) but singular ai beings are dum as fark. Also, some form of platoon ai structure connecting ai squads together would be nice.

Good point. Only four things seems to be carved in stone in this interview: *Recommended configuration for ArmA will be Pentium 4, graphic card with 256MB memory. *ArmA engine is made with DirectX 9. *ArmA will have it's own, built in, voice chat. *Scripting language remains the same. Nothing is removed, but new commands and possibly functions are added.
