Supah 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Some of my older work: IDF Spitfire Mk. IX S/n 2004 "White 14" (Formerly D-133) http://supah.chaotic.nl/white14.jpg High res version After the formation of Israel the need for an airforce with effective fighters was large. The Avia S-199, ironically a czech built version of the Nazi German Bf-109, was not liked and alternatives were sought. Some spitfires were assembled from RAF wrecks found at Tel Aviv and parts from Royal Egyptian Airforce Mk. IX's that had come down on Israeli territory or were captured in their pens. Two Spitfires are know to have been assembled from canabalised parts in this manner, serial numbers D-130 and D-131. After a while the IDF managed  to purchase some Spits from the Czech Airforce and these were flown to the fledgling state of Israel in operations called "Velvetta" via yugoslavia. During these ferry flights Yugoslave markins were carried, the remains of which can be seen as what appears as a non standard outline around the SoD. D-133 was one of the first Spitfire's to arrive through that route and continued to serve with the IDF untill she was written off in a ground accident on  the 5th of January 1949. Pilot Aaron "Red" Finkel was at the controlls when a tire blew out and the machine nosed over causing severe damage. Finkel was considered lucky to have survived the mishap. Later the IDF would manage to procure more spitfires from the Czechoslavakians  and also from Italy. These aircraft served the Israeli's well together with a good number of P-51D's and were used untill the mid 50's. One famous spitfire, painted black with a red thunderbolt across the fuselage was later used by the commander of the IDF as his personal plane. IX S/n 2018 "White 17" http://supah.chaotic.nl/white17.jpg High res version After a battle with the RAF on 7th of January 1948 the IAF High Command decided to paint the Ocean Grey parts of their spitfires brown. As both sides flew Spitfires it was hard for pilots to distinguish between friend and foe during combat. It was thought this shift in colour would help pilots with this identification. This also introduced a certain measure of standardisation in the IAF fleet where paintscheme's were concerned. The spitfire shown here carries the tail markings of 101 squadron and was seen like this in pictures taken in 1948 at Hatzor. HotShot 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Thats excelletn work Supah, and very nice sketches verbal. Out of interest, was drawing something you learnt from tutorials/class, or was it just something you can do natuarally? The drawingboard.org site is really good Sanctuary. I saw they got a tips section, so i'll look at that, because all my drawings turn into something you'd do in MS Paint at the moment. These 2 pictures are some photos i took a month or so ago and today edited in the flashpoint guys. Its not all real life or flashpoint photography, so cant go in either of those threads, so this seems best place.

earl 0 Posted February 23, 2006 but my shading sucks   anybody has any tip or trick? or maybe a good tutorial? im used to pencil and paper. and now ive found myself struggling with tablet.  I didn't notice this part where you asked for advice until now.  Your drawings have good form/shape, but the shading can improve a lot.  The most simple guidelines to to pay attention to values - use black where it needs to be and white where it needs to be and all the range in between.  If you don't pay enough attention to this, your images will lack life.  For example - this is a great start but it only the very beginning: http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/482/sken0092uf.th.jpg Some basic tips for painting in photoshop: -keep linework on a different layer so you can hide/adjust it seperately from your painting layers -start shading by blocking in big areas of shadow, midtone and hightlight.  This is very general and doesn't need any details and even doesn't need to follow linework too carefully yet.  After this part your image should have it's general feel, and everything else is just refinement. -work in stages of detail across the whole image, don't finish one corner before the rest of the image -use a hard round brush with pressure sensitive opacity, instead of size.  in standard ps brushes, you will find three of these brushes after the first two big groups of brushes. I tried painting over your image as an example, but i made a bit of a mess, and changed it (a lot) from the original drawing.  Anyway, it's an example of trying to use a full range of values from near-black to near-white.  This is the only section that turned out okay.. even if the eyes are a bit mismatched. I started doing some digital painting recently, I haven't done any plain 2D art for ages.  Here's an example of process and final, but still a bit rough.  Just an exercise from photo reference.  The idea that helped me a lot recently is that every surface is a mirror, just with different levels of roughness, reflecting efficiency, distortion, colour cast, etc. Also thanks for suggestion about the Czech animation, I like this kind of stuff and there is a place here that will probably have it for rent.  I recently watched Jan Svankmajer's slightly nightmarish "Neco Z Alenky".  Stopmotion is great.  Someone suggested to me "Pojd'te Pane, Budeme Si Hrat", a really nice looking children's animation: http://img.bhe.templation.cz/data....t_1.gif

colonel_klink 0 Posted February 24, 2006 Ok so its not OFP or VBS or for that matter tiddly winks, but here is my rendition of Attila the Hun for an upcoming skittles game made entirely from card (paper). Note: The construction pages are still under development.. My prowess with a digital camera is something to be desired (or not). And my techical drawing skill failed when I was at high school The archive contains 6 jpg pages rendered at 300dpi. Two are the title and picture gallery which need not be printed out. The other four are the main construction pages. There are TWO head and hair pages. One contains the hair colored grey, the other is non-colored to show the lines clearer. The hair construction has undergone several changes and any feedback on making it simpler is welcome. If possible please register at DC3D official forum and leave feedback there. The reason for this is so I can keep the comments together and use them to make this model and others better. Please be constructive rather than "that sucks!" etc, as I want to know what sucks, and how I can fix/improve it. verbal 0 Posted February 24, 2006 Well, as he works for BIS there is a pretty big chance that he is currently in Prague pretty big chance means that its highly probable not 100% sure. BIS HQ isnt in prague but near prague. and assuming they work very very hard on finishing arma (24 hours a day ) i would say theres a chance he is currently not in prague. the question is if he has enought free time BTW did anybody mention that BIS stands for Bezpecnostni Informacni Sluzba? now back on topic: quick sketch ive made last friday. we were having a LAN party a played OFP a lot. mostly 4 vs 4, attacking/defending st. piere. i was gru marksman and ive scored a lot of headshots ( SVD). me having some rest after battle

Creepy_Smell 0 Posted February 25, 2006 Nice Verbal. It does look like Southpark OFP in the sketch. Like the realistic ones you do. They all look real good to me. No matter how I try I cant draw real so I just focus on the surreal. EDIT: Finished it earlier than expected so just changed the image here.

Creepy_Smell 0 Posted February 25, 2006 Creepy_Smell, that's awesome. Do you have a bigger version? I've been posting a lot of mine at my page at DeviantArt.com and I have larger images there. The partial one is under scraps and a bit smaller than the finished ones. I have 2 different ones of the same scrap so the progress can be seen on it. Glad you all like them. Hard to squeeze it in under 100kb but I did it. Next one is going to be a weird self portrait if I can manage to get it working right.
