Arma and OFP crashes on me at the load boxes if I have a certain USB device plugged in (Fisher Price thing for my son). Not sure why its just certain games, but Monolith games crash too. Took me a few days to figure out as games ran fine at first and only started crashing a few weeks after the USB device was plugged in. If I unplug it everything loads and plays just fine. Maybe see if some USB device is causing the issue.

I've done about 3 more since I last posted one here. Since the thread lives again I'll show my newest which is a tribute to Voyager 1 in my surreal style. Like the gas mask zombie D-Murphy man. Makes me want to replay STALKER and fight some snorks.

Download each one your interested and see how you like it. I tried and older version of FFUR but for whatever reason I prefer ECP + a DMA unit replacement mod. I've also since modded in the SLX Grouplink AI into my config and slapped it into other mods I run too. While thats my main mod I run, I also have tons of others that I play depending on my mood. Since many of the mods change the gameplay, to me its like having a new game to play. Just try them out and see what you like. You don't have to stick with just one, unless you have limited HD space. That issue is easily solved by buying a new HD and filling it full of mods I'll probably reinstall the latest FFUR/SLX at some point too just haven't gotten around to it as I'm still busy playing what I already have.

Played a bit on the Blood Sweat and Tears mission. Cut scene after taking the airfield was funny. Soldier shouts "Harrier!" and sure enough there is one, but its on fire and crashed. Same harrier then bombs the base in the next scene. No issues once I started playing. Seems like a very slight FPS increase on my old rig but it does feel smoother in general.

That fix thing worked for me!! Thanks!! Just loaded up the game and ran around a mission for just a minute. So its working.

Im on W2k also missing the xinput dll too. Tried the MS web installer but its still missing after that. Tried the other weblink and after the installer it was still missing. Used winzip to extract the DLL but then got a different error (tracemessage entry point in advapi32.dll missing) after adding the DLL to my system32 folder.

I think its a good review of ArmA from a general gaming site. I think it covers well what one would experience playing, especially for people who have never played OFP. I like how it mentions that if GRAW and Vegas are to easy then give ArmA a shot. Helps keep people who thought those were to hard away. I can see how many gamers would give up on ArmA quickly if its their first tactical FPS. Many just want to hop in a game and go without learning how to play. I first skipped out on OFP as I was just getting into tactical shooters from regular FPS and it was too much. So I went with GR and RvS. With those under my belt tried OFP again and it all just clicked. If it was a more hardcore/sim site then I would think it was being rated too low. I see nothing wrong with calling it "Fair" though converting the 3 of 5 stars to percent does make it too low (60%) when I think 75% is better considering the sites main audience. I rate it higher but I like hard/complicated games. I blame growing up on Microprose sims on my C64 for my sim addiction

I run ArmA fine with a barton2500 thats overclocked to almost a 3200. My barton (or memory) has never liked 400MHZ (200 bus) though for any game but it runs at 380 (190 bus) just fine. Maybe try dropping the bus speed a bit but not all the way back to default speeds to see if it stabilizes.

Look in your SLX_GL3_Settings.sfg file in the @SLX mod folder. One of its settings is "//SLX_NoSmoke = 1". Remove the // to disable the smoke from tanks/apcs. There is also a damage effects for vehicles "//SLX_NoDmg = 1" that you could disable the same way. Another is shot effects "SLX_ShotFX = 0". I have mine to 0 to disable dirt, smoke, dust, etc. from guns. 1 is default. If its not these you can reenable them by adding back the // or changing 0 back to 1. There is other stuff in there you can easily enable/disable the same way. So just take a peak in there. Just remember to back up your original 1st so you have that to fall back on if you make a mistake.

Its something with the replacement pack that is part of SLX. In the default SLX config there is this section: // SLX ADD : If the replacement pack is installed then some extra models can be used. Uncomment to enable. #define SLX_REPLACEMENT_PACK_INSTALLED Add // to # define to its like //#define This will disable the replacement pack but you wont get the error anymore. At least it worked for me when I used the default config. I just use the grouplink/wounds now so manually add it to my configs. I'm not sure if its in the GRAA SLX config but its worth a look. I'm not sure how to install the replacement pack though. I didnt run the install batches so maybe that was why I got the error.

Mine works but have another question. Any way to adjust the night vision's brightness (Not the whole game just NV)?

I went from getting 20-30FPS with very low/disabled settings on a 9700pro to 25-35FPS with normal (Most settings)/low (AA, AF, Shadows) settings on a 7600GT with 1200 view distance. Rest of rig is Barton+2500 oc'd to 3200 and 1.5GB DDR RAM. While its not a big jump in FPS the quality has greatly improved. It normally stays steady at 30 with an occasional drop to 25 in forest. Very playable and without FPS counter it feels much smoother. Its the same FPS my old 9700pro ran my modded OFP so I am used to it. This is only from playing Clean Sweep (Which killed my FPS on my old card due to forest) and Blood Sweat Tears missions.

Im guessing, but I think he may mean he tried to join a game and then it was on the Receiving Data screen for a long time. Then it either went back to the server screen automatically or he hit esc to go back. I've had a few times, mainly CTI games, where it was taking forever to join due to the amount of data to catch me up on the game so I went and found another server. Or he could be talking about something completely different.
