Military Humor

Recommended Posts

Good training has nothing to do with yelling, the DI as common enemy or sleep/food deprivation. Keep in mind that this might emphasize be the "common" case. I bet that on a tactical march with biwac you'd have one meal a day and little sleep.

German army has stopped unnecessary yelling and other humiliating actions towards recruits since a long time, yet you'll find that german soldiers aren't worse fighters.

Still, boot camp is quite short. It's supposed to be the fire-test where you weed out the weak ones, and prepare the rest for what's to come. After boot camp is over and you get into specialist training one can make stuff more normal.

What the...? Is that for real? Isn't the whole purpose with old-school boot camp to fuse the squads together by collective punishment and joint effort? To brutalize the mind and endurance of the soldiers so that they are prepared to cope with battlefield-conditions?

....

Nothing you learn in boot camp will prepare you to cope with battelfield conditions, IMHO. Training your skills is good, of course, but when first bullet passes over your head in real combat, it's another thing.

Nothing can prepare you for that.

Not military humor, so it's offtopic i guess, sorry...

True. True. One still won't be prepared. But hopefully BETTER prepared. :)

Non the less, humour it is, even if it is done for real. Pity when humour plays with lifes though :(

Oh, well. Politics and the practicers of it are tragicomical, so... :)

Suppose this can be an example, not military but for example, I worked a carpentry/labor job for 10 yrs, and my bosses,

I had 3 of them were almost liek drill seargents, they weren't tough but they didn't tolerate bullshit,

they made you hussle, my first 2 months at the job was utter hell.

I couldn't sleep cuz my body would ache, getting the job done right

and doing it quickly was very important and stressed.

The stress and the work alone made you want to quit with them yelling at you.

i seen plently of youg new guys come out for the summer and they couldn't handle it,

some even left the same day, you try to help the poor saps but they cant take it.

if you can get through the first monthe then youll be alright.

Reason saying is that all that soft shit dont do nothing for a new guy on the field,

I thank my bosses to this day for what they put me through as I was able to cope

with jobs we did that were either exrmely hot and stressfull, or very cold and unbearable,

and you had to keep your shit straight and get the job done, we worked in all sorts of weather

even rain and snow, well that was the old days now everything is a saftey concern, but the point

is the apprentice (boot camp) like training is what enabled you to handled, and toughen up

for the shit that you were to come, and persnally I dont miss it, lol But it

has helped me alot in regular things in life where otherwise I would have failed.

Sorry for being really off topic but I guess that the military isnt doing the new recruits any favors,

I think the old school way is the way to go, it prepares you menatlly and physically to meet a challenge that

these little school boys are going to hae a hard time trying to meet when the shit hits the fan and they cant go

to sleep fo a day at a time or more, and hump 20 miles with full gear, ect.,

weed out the weak, and accept only those that are fit to do battle, I'd rather know that we

have some serious hardcore mofos fighting for our country then some trained peeons that can only dish

out force but cant take it. tare em down and rebuild them back up, its always been that way why change it,

if you want numbers go ask Russia, Im sure they can donate

500,000 and lose to afghanistan like they did in the 80s, oops, thats another story.

The Bundeswehr has for some years come under criticism as to the state of its soldiers. In war you need to be able to shout loud and understand clearly what someone is saying, its no good saying to them when a magazine falls out of the rifle in a range "Oh don't do it again you silly sod." You scream at them because if this was a real war they would have just been killed or got their buddy killed. I've been through UK "Bootcamp" and this new style is just a joke.

I know there are issues with the soldiers of the Bundeswehr. I know there were strategical issues starting at levels as high as the former defence minister and even the former government. Those issues reflected in having the first real combat unit deployed in afghanistan only in 2007 iirc. Before it were all support units like engineers etc. and yea, they inherently lack ground combat training.

And yes, there are physical issues because standards have been lowered, I'm not happy about it either.

Still those are not issues solved by outdated training methods. Especially since the Bundeswehr has public relation issues dating as old as 70+ years.

Those issues are exactly the ones that will be solved by a good solid training regime much like that in the Marines or British Army. I agree to some extent that it maybe outdated, or that it may not be as effective.

But for the moment it has made the British and US some of the most effective fighting forces in the world. What did catch my eye once was if you ever get a chance to look up how the FDF train there soldiers, a very alternative method which seems to work well.

Could you either explain this to me or give me a link? Tried google but I didn't come up with anything that seemed all that different. I did read about their conscription laws though and some of those were interesting.

Speaking of which, I count this as military humor. :)

JhlWddAXSRA

Boot camp is 90% mental and 10% physical, with out the yelling it's just 10%.

I'll try finding you a link, its basically the same mentality somewhat that they have in their education system. Soldiers on the range are given basic instructions and then allowed to shoot as much as they want and only ask a question if they need to. Whereas in the British system you only fire when your told to.

I'm having a disagreement (my disagreement being, he's full of shit) on another forum with a self proclaimed "SOF" member in Afghanistan. I found this humorous.

I've got a 1969 Russian made AK that I'll take out from time to time. I acquired that on a mission that we were receiving fire from a corner area of a compound. I thumped a 40mm high explosive round in the direction, it hit a pillar and airbursted right over the combatants. The pressure from that killed all of them and their weapons were perfectly intact. I use straight iron sights on my AK and it and it packs a pretty good punch. Usually if I'm traveling by ATV I'll have my M4, MP5, and AK.. just because I have the space for it. Another fine weapon that I've used from time to time is a double barrel sawed off shotgun. You can't discharge both barrels at the same time unfortunately, but a nice wide shot pattern will stop a car pretty quickly. Used at longer ranges it's good to keep people away from you. If I carry the boomstick, I usually have a handful of shells that I emptied the shot out of and packed with rock salt. I use that sparingly though. It's good for a non lethal take down (if you are at proper range, otherwise it could potentially kill someone in close quarters).

What unit does he serve with, ask him? Be interesting to see what unit allows him to use an AK47 on duty, and also the fact that he appears to be a Sniper aswell as an infantryman who carries a shotgun?

He won't commit to telling. I think he's a PMC with a bit of BS mixed in.
