Harnu 0 Posted October 21, 2005 Well, if you notice that I am suddenly not locking a lot of threads soon, it's because I'm leaving to San Diego to begin my enlistment with the United States Marine Corps. I leave Sunday afternoon and fly to the Recruit Depot Monday evening. I figured I'd make a thread so when I get back I can tell you about the thoroughly unpleasant thirteen weeks of Marine Corps Boot Camp, and of course gloat that I'll be a U.S. Marine . Also to let you know that upon my temporary departure from the forums, 50 active members will be selected at random and IP banned from the board. And of course to adhere to forum standards. Feel free to ask or discuss anything about Military training, any stories some of you who have already trained and served in a branch of your countries military. Pereferably first hand knowledge, try not to tell stories about your friends friend, who had a third cousin, twice removed, who had some really outlandish story to tell about training. stgn 39 Posted October 21, 2005 You are so lucky I whish I was fysicaly fit to join the army(DenmarK) good luck. And an advise, now i don't know how they do in the US Marines, but if you are out "camping" try to place your sleeping place in the center of your group that way you have a lesser chance of having a training granade thrown close to you while you sleep- I can tell you from my limited expirence that it is not an especialy nice expirence. Harnu 0 Posted October 21, 2005 Matt Rochelle - I'll try to crack is as a comedic way as possible for you Crassus - Yes, I've been PT'ing more than three miles, quite a bit more. Bikecop - Current contract is four years as a Combat Engineer. Might go longer depending on a few things, but right now just going to do the four, and maybe go reserves afterward. Heatseeker 0 Posted October 22, 2005 Good luck Harnu! I dont know how it is over there but you will burn alot of fat, some hidden snacks might come in handy at night if they make you eat on the run or the food sucks. It will be hard but you will laugh about and even miss those days, im sure you will do fine. Hey and you'll get to play the "real" VBS1 too .
ralphwiggum 6 Posted October 22, 2005 Hey and you'll get to play the "real" VBS1 too  . That's what I'm thinking. When Harnu wants to play VBS, he can claim it as training. Guest Posted October 22, 2005 @STGN... Asma doesnt mean you cant join the army mate For almost 2 years i dont take medication and/or have a crisis :P And now I am definetly training to be a Portuguese Ranger (like Delta Force ). But being medicated is a bit harder. It all depends in the units requirements. Just dont give up and think: "I cant beat asma"... if i did, and more 3 people I know did, you can too It's just a question of time and commitment. @Topic Well Harnu, good luck Enjoy your stay in the school of braves

Donnervogel 0 Posted October 22, 2005 I don't get why someone would do such a thing to himself based on free will but if it is what you want... well good luck. I am doing my "school of recruit" in the swiss army at the moment. 21 weeks of senslessness, boredom and incompetence. Unfortunatly I am required to do my service (unless I want to pay lot's of extra taxes to compensate). I hope you will have more fun.
