just finished the campaign, here are the the notes i took while playing:

- translation could be greatly improved

- remove the fps counter from being "on" by default in dxdll

- add diary or notes or something to notes page in briefing

- somehow explain where the player is and where he has to go, or explain that the mission should be played in cadet mode (put it in the briefing/notes)

mission notes:

- translate all waypoints into english

- don't require cadet mode (if possible, after beating the campaign i see that this could be required)

- remove other possible exit point in first mission (behind the train, in the corner)

- add something to the debriefing of each mission, notes by the protagonist of where he needs to go next would be good

- why are the 2 dudes following me in sektor7 suddenly gone in sektor8?

- giant russian heli is crashed next to hospital in sektor8

- giant russian heli crashes at the end of the cutscene in sektor8 (after seeing the 1st crashed one)

- cinematic at hospital is cut short by "mission completed" hintc

- i killed the res guys in sektor11 before the cinematic in which they talk to each other; might wanna fix that

- player always starts with pistol, instead of main weapon

- saw a guy in a tree in sektor11

- had the same problem other people mentioned where i got injured somehow without being shot (sektor 12? it was in the swamp i think...) and had to deal with my crappy aim for the rest of the game

- outro never ends

overall:

- great cinematics

- great soundtrack

- great atmosphere

- almost non-existant story/plot

- iffy gameplay, nonexistant freedom

this campaign started with fantastic atmosphere, but it eventually gets dulled by the repetitive gameplay; ofp and stalker were both meant to be open-ended games, so i think any ofp mod based on stalker should also be open-ended.

i don't want that criticism to make you think that i didn't like this campaign, however, so i'll just end by saying again how much i loved the atmosphere and prop layout (abandoned cars, grass, etc.), it really made me feel like i was a stalker outside of chernobyl.

ok i get an error- about the chernobl pack, then it loads after a long wait, and then it exits to the main menu. yes i have the first part of the mod, what is it? i am dieing to play this ive been checking every day waiting for it so help me soon plzzzzz. p.s. good work so far except the english is horrible, other than that its an awesome campaign and ive played them all just about

I agree with all of pablo's points. Translation needs a bit of refinement, diary and notes are needed, and xplain where the player needs to go, for sure. I had a lot of trouble with the first sector, since I always play on veteran! I had to search this topic until I found out that I need to play in cadet. Overviews would also be a good idea. wink_o.gif

Maybe for veteran players, you could add 'start' and 'finish' markers on the map, or allow the player to have GPS so he knows which grid he's in?

Also, I think some of the weapon choices should be standardized. I noticed some BIS weapons mixed in with the pack you're using, as well as some JAM ammo mixed with the weapon's native ammo. I would recommend rereleasing part 1's campaign when you release part 2, with updates and fixes. wink_o.gif

I'm a huge fan of non linearity, but I have to say, this was the first non linear game experience I've played in a long while that I've actually enjoyed! (Notables: HL2, Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Far Cry were all too linear for me. SWAT 4 was nice though..)

I really enjoyed the first part, and I'm looking forward to this demo!

Edit: I get 'cannot load mission, missing chernobyl_pack' when I try to run the demo. I'll try unpbo'ing it..

Edit again: Looks like under required addons in the pbo, "chernobyl_pack" is spelled without the Y. When that's fixed in all three spots in the mission.sqm, I get a problem with the 'elektro' and 'zabor' objects...

I'm just doing a find/replace on all the bft addons so I can play the mission for now biggrin_o.gif

Edit: Once again, a briefing and a markers once entering the zone would be nice, or at least a border... it would be nice to know what to do or where to go. smile_o.gif

From a professional developer's standpoint. That's a good way to release a limited version of a product so that a consumer can get an idea of how the game plays from firsthand experience, so that they will in turn consider more seriously, buying the game.

How in the screeching hell does this apply to this mission they've released?

What do they gain personally by not letting you play the blasted thing as much as you want?

It amounts to aggravation in having to restart the mission when in fact the desired effect of forcing someone to stop playing. It's not like they can charge money for the mission.

What gives?

I always looked upon this project with interest and I appreciate what you guys are doing...

But come on. You guys -aren't- a professional outfit.

From another viewpoint, I would say the 30 minute time limit isn't a bad idea, as there are only about 30 minutes of gameplay in the map in the first place! To keep the map going longer would only frustrate th eplayer.. as there's not much beyond killing a few enemies and hijacking a few vehicles. If they can only put 30 minutes of gameplay into the map, no reason to let the player play longer.

However, I would have enjoyed some sort of goal or objective, as the only thing to do is wander around... smile_o.gif

i added the chernobl pack but it already existed and still the same problem, can anyone help im very excited but you guys should really get rid of the bugs b4 ya release it. cmon im waiting!!! whistle.gif

More freedom doesn't mean 'no goal', it means giving the player more options and choices to reach a goal. This goal can be getting more money, or beating all the quests/missions, or killing every enemy they see before they die. The goal doesn't have to be chosen by the designer, it can also be chosen by the player. But the important thing to note is that the game needs goals; a way for the player to 'win'. Otherwise, it's not really a game, it's just a playground.

You included the chernobyl pack, but you spelled it wrong in the mission.sqm. You need to fix the mission spelling for the mission to work, and figure out the other two missing addons I posted.
