CAPAIRMAN 0 Posted March 14, 2005 Eh yes I am. I was trying to figure out the talk key (That's why you saw me going in circles for the better part of three minutes ) to respond to your comment about a good shot.Been trying to get in on one of those big destroyer battles, I didn't have six hours to waste for everyone to green up though. Kind of reminds me of right before a CTI game when you have that one person who always goes AFK. I figure I'll leave the little bay when I get enough for a Fletcher class. I renamed my destroyer to the BIS_Thebes as per the designated prefix protocol. I'd have to agree. The forum is a wasteland, it took me an hour to figure out torpedoes until I came across a relatively good tutorial (Let me tell you, my deck guns are soooo much more effective than those torpedoes. I've sunk a bunch of ships with deck guns, none with torpedoes), and still, it was skimpy on information and abbreviated. The manual is practically nonexistant (See Star Wars Galaxies, that MMO comes with a 700000 page manual), but I do appreciate the fact that no money changes hands to play this wonderful game. I can forgive the NF team for not producing a manual, but give me a break, they can do better than that! It actually almost turned me off from the game, because I couldn't figure out half of the interface and the rest was overly cryptic. EDIT: eek! typo! Press F5 to get a list of keys in game  Also, you can download an 80+ page manual from their site BTW: That game where you went around in circles got me my Fletcher class DD
Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted March 14, 2005 stay in the newbie area as long as possible, dont even think of going german till you have at leat 30k in credits (not including selling your ship)
WhoCares 0 Posted March 14, 2005 30k? I went Japanese with more than 40k and ended in a Kagero Destroyer without engine  And than I had to lock off and re-login to get into the neutral (Busan) shipyard to sell my (t)rusty old frigate Fachif. And even now I just have three 4.7" guns as armament and only ~5k credits left... (Strange that they put the Fubukis above the Kageros and on par with the Akitsukis) Now cruising around in the DD Dachid (some might notice a pattern in naming  ) Yesterday played a miniscule part in some huge (100+) battles including several light and heavy cruisers. You definatly don't want to draw their attention on you  (but quite some points and experience to earn when you survive and win)
Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted March 14, 2005 Hmmm big dilemma now....do I go for single 5.5" or for double 4"
WhoCares 0 Posted March 14, 2005 I'd go for double 4, assuming you are still on a DD platform. As light cruiser, things are different. Â It might pack about three times the volume on the target, due to the higher rate of fire and, obviously, two barrels Of course, you can only target lightly armoured targets... Even with a couple of 5.5"ers on a DD you can't take up a serious fight with a CL because he has about three times the guns and can easily take some of your volleys while you will only survive very few of his. On the other hand, when you hide near one of your cruisers, it might draw all the attention and you can go along as a a wolf in sheep's clothing Me myself is looking forward to the twin 3.9" 65 T98 as (historically) used on the Akitsukis. I hope my Kagero class DD can use it, as I actually plan to do only a single stop in the DD class just upgrading the current hull...
Apollo 0 Posted March 14, 2005 Some Money tips by Apollo (cyrrently at lvl 24 in a Z31) I see a lot of people having problems earning cash ,especially at the turnover to a nationality destroyer. When i bought my Z1 ,i had just enough to equip the whole boat in arnement and gear ,but had nothing left for armor.Yet i have found strategy's that almost ensure you atleast a steady profit ,maybe not very high ,but atleast preventing that you are making losses or debts. 1) When you have a nationality destroyer ,Make sure you don't get it sunken.A nationality destroyer cost almost 400 credits in repairs ,youll loose that mount of money if you get youre ship sunken. 2)If you notice youre team is about to loose ,then flee the battlefield. When you loose youll only get a small team bonus usually (about 100cr in big games) wich may be just enough to pay for youre expenses in ammunitions ,but if you don't sink you won't loose that 400.Youll probably be about 50% of the times on the loosing team ,so make sure that you fight on positions near retreat points and where the concentration of friendly troops is sufficiant ,so that when it goes bad it's easy to flee. Fleeing is not always bad.In NF the team that dealt most dammage to an enemy wins ,when you flee there is less potential for the enemy to deal dammage to youre team. 3)Make maximum use of situations where youre team is about to win.Youll get about 500cr bonus for team win ,you can make some personal income as wel withough much risk by assesing the situation and engaging those enemy ship's that are isolated From their main force with a few destroyers. 4)If you reached lvl15 ,youll be forced outside the noob area's.Play the bigger games in the +15 area's ,theyll bring in much more win and loose bonus as well as experience. Torpedo's are youre friends at that lvl ,you can now mount 2 torp launchers that can launch 3 torps at a time ,combined 6 ,the field of coverage of 6 Torps shot in Wide mode is quite an imporvement over the dual torp launchers and makes it much easier to kill especially in the big games. 5)In the big games ,join the innitial torp wave ,spam torps when youre near the island and race back to the back (don't get youreself killed by the enemy torp wave's wich will be a pain to dodge ,and note that a good Engine is very important) Usually i use the Island to turn because it offer's a bit of cover against torpedo's.In the big games its easier to score with torpedo's (although they are expensive ammunition) ,sometimes the rewards of a well placed torp wave can be hughe ,i once scored over 1000 personal credit's by sinking 4 ship's by a 2x4 torpedo wave. This is the way i play it ,torp wave ,retreat to back ,second torp wave ,retreat to back. Then see how the end game evolve's ,if youre winning ,go make some credits on cannonage on isiolated enemy's ,if youre team is loosing ,retreat and keep what you get from team bonus and any personal credit's gotten from torpedo's.This way ,granted that you can prevent youre ship being sunk for something like 9 of 10 games ,youll make steady profit. Yesterday ,i made about 10K in 5 hours of playing ,wich is quite a lot.
WhoCares 0 Posted March 14, 2005 As Japanese (lvl13) I will not jump on the first torpedo wagon (lvl 14, I suppose), assuming those are of the mediocre 21" type, but wait for the long lance 24" torps. On slow speed they might reach accross half the map  (hist. ~40000 yards!) In this game it is barely possible to employ any general plans. Instead, in a small vessel (FF, DD) it is a good idea to stick with the lot and look for a buddy (whether he knows or not) and engage the same target. I say buddy, as it will be barely possible to operate in a kind of Destroyer Division-like formation as it was historically done. So, with two destroyers against him, the enemy will either disengage and run or be blown out of the water rather fast, while he can engage only one of his attackers. As destroyer with torps it might also be a good idea to launch the torpedos in a second wave to break the enemy formation which might have restored order after the initial chaos. Speaking of the island and the usual situation where 80% of the battle occures in the upper half of the map it might be good to make the torp run from the south along the island coast to have the torps run almost in prarallel to the enemy line. This is best done a little later in the game when all those running north in the initial phase have turned around and run straight into the torps instead away from them Hey, we might come up with our own battle doctrine
Bordoy 0 Posted March 14, 2005 When can i choose my nationality for ships? Just got the one normal frigate, but I know that you get Frigate_02, and you can choose different models for that.
WhoCares 0 Posted March 14, 2005 When can i choose my nationality for ships?Just got the one normal frigate, but I know that you get Frigate_02, and you can choose different models for that. When your sailor reaches lvl12. Put him in your sailor pool, click on CLS in his little icon. There you can choose his nationality and afterwards his general position. To build a ship of a certain nation you need a bridge operator of its nationality, so it is a good idea to 'push' good operators in the early phase.
WhoCares 0 Posted March 14, 2005 Hmmm big dilemma now....do I go for single 5.5" or for double 4" While surfing around in their fora I came across this one:IJN EARLY SHIP GUIDE Many useful tips regarding the outfit of your vessels. And (as opposite to me) they apperently prefer the bigger guns. But of course, this thread focusses on japanese ships, so you might look for similar threads in the forum of your prefered country. Of course, reading similar threads of the other nations will give you a good idea what you are up against (e.g. the supperior jap torps).
