Newleafman 0 Posted January 16, 2005 With the diversitey of the vehicles within this game, I have to think alot of you guys use a Joystick or a gamepad. What do you use? I presently own a Logitech Rumblepad2, and a Saitek x45. I find programing for games within the gaming software to be a bit of a pain in the arse. Now It seems that I cannot program within the game itself, to recognize controller buttons past #8. Keeping in mind that I am working with the 2 demos, as I am awaiting delivery from UK to Canada. I presently use the gamepad for racing games. And the X45 for flight sims only. When it comes to shooters, I have always prefered the keyboard/mouse combo. But I think I will want to use a controller for the vehicles in OFP. Does anybody have these controllers? Is there a way to program within OFP to recognize commands beyond the #8 button? THX. lee_h._oswald 0 Posted January 16, 2005 I am using a Logitech Wingman Force 3D joystick for flying aircrafts and choppers in OFP. Flying with mouse and keyboard is easy, but the real flying-fun comes with a joystick. MfG Lee
Mr_Tea 0 Posted January 16, 2005 Microsoft Multi Media Keyboard, Microsoft Intellimouse Optical v.1.1A USB and Saitek x36F programable Joystick System. EDIT: There is sortware out there from Saitek wich this you can bound any joystick button to any keyboard key you want or execute commands by pressing a joystick button. OFP is not about being an ace or handling a gun like Lucky Luke. It's more about the tactical skills.. Know what to do at the right time. So can easily use the mouse and keyboard to manoeuvre the vehicles.
Silent N Deadly 0 Posted January 16, 2005 I use mouse and keyboard...I never tried OFP with a joystick, I might give it a try tomorrow.

theavonlady 2 Posted January 16, 2005 Trackstick and keyboard on all the notebooks I've had since starting to play FPSs some 6-7 years ago. It's gotten to the point where I have trouble using a regular mouse. That being said, I can understand why any flightsim enthusiast would prefer a joystick for aircraft control. It's only natural. Mr_Tea 0 Posted January 16, 2005 I use mouse and keyboard...I never tried OFP with a joystick, I might give it a try tomorrow. You dont know what you missed until now. I love to fly heli`s with my joystick, it gives a totally different feeling than using keyboard and mouse only. My advise: Take care of your hight above ground when you fly heli´s with a joystick. da12thMonkey 1943 Posted January 16, 2005 I use the keyboard and mouse most of the time but if my joystick's connected I'll use that to fly planes. I don't tend to fly choppers with the stick because it's rather difficult

Baphomet 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Quote[/b] ]OFP is not about being an ace or handling a gun like Lucky Luke It -is- about being able to aim and shoot things as fast if not faster than your enemy. There are times where you will consistently be engaged in unavoidable combat situations. In these circumstances using a controller to maneuver your firearm is going to handicap you. I do understand using a controller for vehicles, sorta. Even though it's too much of a pain in the ass for me to bother getting my ps2 controller set up for OFP. The mouse easily does the job. Newleafman 0 Posted January 17, 2005 I've programed both, gamepad and Joystick. Tried both methods, only to realized I wasted my time programing them. Keyboard and mouse feels the best. Definetley quicker. I've done this with shooters before. Tried programing different methods, only to realize that Keyboard and Mouse is the best for me. Joysticks are great for flight sims. Gamepads are great for driving sims.(I feel like a bit of a wanker using a wheel, don't ask me why).
Chip 0 Posted January 19, 2005 The joystick is only good for controlling airplanes IMO.
benu 1 Posted January 19, 2005 Helicopters and planes can be controlled MUCH better with a joystick or gamepad. I was using a joystick with 4 axis for this, but recently use my gamepad more as i can reach more buttons more easily than on the joystick.

Chip 0 Posted January 24, 2005 I cannot fly the planes with the mouse+keyboard.--Ben Yes, it's very hard to do and the 3rd person view is a must. Also you cannot do barrel-rolls without a stick.
cozza 24 Posted January 24, 2005 yeah u can. Just go really fast and jam the Q & A button. You do a barrel roll while going up then come down really fast
