iNeo 0 Posted January 9, 2005 No vikings, they would be in the wrong centuries then. The game is from the time where they discovered/colonised America (the continent, not the country but the countinent) to the Industrial age. I suppose you mean when Columbus discovered America? "Age of kings is early 11th century to late 18th." --> They say the viking era ended around 1050 so they could be in the beginning of the game How about post-viking Scandinavian civilizations then? Sweden was a great power in the 17th century and a lot of wars were fought by Scandinavian and other countries around the Baltic sea around this time. Major Fubar 0 Posted January 9, 2005 Quote[/b] ]There will be eight civilizations in the game, but we are only announcing three for now: the French, British and Spanish. So who would the other 5 civs be? Russian, German, American, Chinese and Japanese maybe?

sanctuary 19 Posted January 10, 2005 a screenshot is showing typical Native Americans (i think that is the right english word) buildings , so you can assume that at least one of the Native Americans tribe is one of those 5 -not revealed yet- civilizations. But which tribe ? As there were many different Native Americans tribes , ES have a lot of choice (i guess they will just make a -generic- tribe mixing a lot of the different Native Americans cultures to obtain the different units)
Major Fubar 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Oops, I didn't read the setting properly - I thought it was another "conquer the world" type campaign...
pogingwapo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Now that's POO bar he he he he he About these new 3D RTS coming out nowadays I miss the usual great overhead view. I really don't like all these bright 3D landscapes that seems to clutter the screen

As most games screw history over big time anyway, I suspect the following cultures will be in: Spain/Portugal (discovery and conquest of South and Middle America) USA (war of independance) Great Brittain/France (conflict over the 13 colonies) One or more native american tribes, although I suspect they will use 1 generic type of native american to represent them all. Aztecs/Mayas to oppose Spain/Portugal? Spain/Portugal might also be in a campaign for dominance over South America...
pogingwapo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Cossacks has already outdone AOE in the field of Post-Dark Ages RTS
-33ker 0 Posted January 10, 2005 First of all, AOEII was from 700 till ca. 1500. I think AOEIII would be 16th till 18th century then. My guess on the nations would be: 1. Naitive Americans (Different kinds of tribes, but share the main characteristics. Just like Celtic, British And French in AoK.) 2. Britain (including colonies like American settlers) 3. France (same as above) 4. Spain 5. Portugal This would be the list, if the main game concentrates on the conquest of the new continent and conflicts in western Europe. But what if it includes the 30 Years war? Then Germans must be included, along with Sweden and some other Baltic- East European state.
iNeo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 But what if it includes the 30 Years war? Then Germans must be included, along with Sweden and some other Baltic- East European state. Yep that's what I'm hoping for. I want England, France, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Russia and some other Baltic state/s.
-33ker 0 Posted January 10, 2005 I doubt they'll be in, but I hope for a 30 Years War expansion pack!
Winters 1 Posted January 10, 2005 In PC Gamer they said the French, Spanish and British have been confirmed and that you can bet on seeing the Dutch and Swiss will be 2 others and when you arrive in the "New World" one of you main obejectives is to make alliances with the Natives. It looks promising, i loved the first 2 and AoM was fun as well.
-33ker 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Swiss? WTF? You mean Swedes, don't you?
Winters 1 Posted January 10, 2005 Nope, it says Swiss in my magazine. I thought the same when i first read it and had to take a second look at it.

iNeo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 I so hope they meant Swedes when they wrote Swiss in that paper you mentioned. I will say that every country that had a colony in Americais in the game. Sweden had colonies Now I have some hope.
Winters 1 Posted January 10, 2005 I would post the link but the website still has last months issue on it and not the latest one i just got in the mail last week. If anyone else has a subscription to PC Gamer they can confirm it.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 10, 2005 It surely looks great and I was realy amazed by the first screenshots being published. However this looks kind of very narrow sp missions. If you know what I mean
Donnervogel 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Well I doubt there will be Swiss as their own civilisation but there could be Swiss mercs hopefully. This would be realistic because there were many Swiss Mercs in the Armies around 15th to 18th century. And whoever made the commend that Swiss avoiding war. Swiss neutrality was first recognized in 1815. So before the Swiss were not neutral officially.
iNeo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Lots of info on AOE III Quote[/b] ]There is STRONG belief that the following nations will also be in the game:# The Netherlands (Dutch) # Portugal # Sweden # Denmark # Germany Denmark too! mmmm off to read more bye

sanctuary 19 Posted January 11, 2005 Quote[/b] ]Natives/Diplomacy - Players will be able to build "outposts" by native tribes, those outposts in turn will grant you the right to make unique units dependant on which native tribe you built your outpost to, if you conquer 4 outposts in a game, you win (sorta like wonders in previous Age games). Below will soon be a list of known native tribes, since there's currently none, nothing to see yet So the Native Americans are not a civilisation but another important part of the game. Interesting idea.

Why do you think they are guarding the pope ever since.
