xawery 0 Posted December 8, 2004 Ah, Christmas - time of obligatory joy and fratricidal tendencies... in the broadest sense of the word. Brotherhood of man and all that, you know? Dear lord but I detest Christmas... not the event itself, mind you: I am not religious but the Christmas mass etc. at least manages to give the whole affair an air of legitimacy. No, it's all the hubbub surrounding it that bothers me immensly. People running to and fro, hell-bent on getting presents for an occasion that (usually) means nothing to them. Christmas has become nothing more than a convention everyone is supposed to adhere to. To make matters worse, Coca-Cola has kidnapped Christmas over a century ago with its fat, red-clad bastard and has been holding it hostage ever since. Every bleeding bar or cafe seems to be decorated (and I use the term loosely) with disgusting Coke ornaments. Screaming children, annoyed parents, stomachache-inducing music; yes ladies and gentlemen, Christmas shopping is a tub o'fun! Is my misanthropy showing? brgnorway 0 Posted December 10, 2004 It's Christmas time : Quote[/b] ]Santas run right out of Christmas spirit THERE was no shortage of suspects matching the description when police were called to a fight in a small Welsh town. More than 30 drunken men dressed as Father Christmas were slugging it out in the main street after the world’s biggest gathering of Santa Clauses ended in a mass brawl. Officers used CS spray and drew their batons to break up the fighting Santas after the record-breaking fun run. The Times Online

denoir 0 Posted December 21, 2004 Ahh, now it is really the Christmas season: The Christmas Goat in Gävle being burnt to the ground. Since its introduction in 1966 it has been burned down by unknown assailents almost every year. The police have been trying to prevent that by various means each year, ranging from dipping the whole thing into anti-flammable solution to extensive video surveillence. Yet it almost without exception burns each year. It's become a Christmas tradition  This is what it looks like before bruning:

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted December 21, 2004 Bah Humbug, i hate xmas. Â Well i used to like it, but now it really pisses me off that christmas "started" like 2 months ago (thats when all the xmas stock goes out and all the adverts start )....i really really hate the commercialism surrounding it..... Remove all that and i'd be totally happy with it. Nowerdays it just feels all worn out by the time it actually reaches Christmas day! I usually end up so bombarded with it that i dont feel "Christmassy" at all. If i had my way, it'd be nothing to do with Xmas before the start of advent. Now January 16th, theres a day i'm looking forward to...... Exactly my thoughts aswell. Just to add to the misery I can mention that I work in the hotell business.........and the last month before christmas is my (and most others in my business) personal hate period. Period. Do any other countries have the tradition where firms and companies take their employees out to restaurants? It's living hell! People quarrel and smack their bosses in the face, lose their jobs because they can't fucking behave and ends up in bed with someone who is obviously not their wife! And when they're not busy doing this the run around and puke all thinkable places. And I have to endure all this shit! So when January nears I start to relax a few days! Edit: It's great for kids of course! However, for us grown ups it's only about balanced reciprocity or swapping gifts! Mindless! I worked in the same business untill a few months ago. I liked it but I also hated it realy realy a lot, for exactly the same reasons you just mentioned. And yes, we had a company christmas celebration and all of us got realy realy smashed. I went home at about 6 in the morning and showed up at 9 again in the office. Could hardly walk straight. However I got to mention that our business environment is very tolerant during this period and there is hardly any work to be done.
brgnorway 0 Posted December 21, 2004 Quote[/b] ]I worked in the same business untill a few months ago. I remember very well you did! Didn't you work among other places somewhere in Thailand and later also in Malta? What motivated your change of business and what do you do now Albert? Quote[/b] ]I liked it but I also hated it realy realy a lot, for exactly the same reasons you just mentioned. Well, that makes two of us! Apart from the running up to christmas season I really like the hotel trade. Especially now that I'm working in a very nice family owned hotel - so different from the boring chain concepts!
