Invasion 1944 Info Thread

Recommended Posts

Ambiance, especially amiant sounds is a great thing when implented correctly. Only problem I did encounter though was when playing one of the recent relased mission pack by WWIIEC for Liberation1941-1945. I survived a couple of waves of attack and then presumably through some trigger not triggering, nothing happened. But I could hear some not to far off shots being fired and so headed off in the general direction. Ten minutes later and realising that I was no nearer the action and that the apparent direction of the didn't change when changed direction, I realised that it was just ambiant sounds playing.

It was a bit missleading, but this negative is outweighed by the atmosphere added.

Where there Commando units involved in Operation Market Garden?

If not, then you won't be seeing them at all I'm afraid.

Hi,

Yes, some commando's were involved with Market-Garden. A number of men from No 2 (Dutch) Troop, No 10 (Interallied) Commando saw service.

History of No 2 Troop (in Dutch)

History of No 2 Troop (in English)

1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, formed from 11 SAS, had originated as No 2 Commando. There would have been former commando's in their ranks.

Regards,

Sander

Most important thing is to get the first phase released without delay... So just dont ask too much at the such moment of close time of completion of Mod!

In the campaign if you stray too far away from the area you are supposed to be in you will quickly become an easy target for a jerry sniper goodnight.gif

just as in the ofp campaign when you die with an k sound when you go to far way?

Yes, exactly like that. Too many missions and campaigns have been made that give you too much freedom. In an actual area of operation you wouldnt have complete freedom to wander wherever you wanted to without there being some type of consequence.

We have sayings like: "here they come lads" and "come on you stinkin' jerries" just to quote a couple. I dont want to give too much away.

We had some debate over a resistance campaign style 'lose a man and he is gone' but instead we opted to have several different "squads" the guys in your squad for one mission wont neccesarily be the same when you play that unit again.

I watched the "OosterbeekTrailer". It all looks very impressive

indeed. Are the British Airborne soldiers going to be revised

before final release? In the video they are apparently

incorrect in several respects.

Jimpy, post whats wrong with them and i will forward the info along. Thanks

The troops are very good as they are but do have some slight

innaccuracies. None of the issues are very major, though, and

should be simple and quick enough for you to fix. In no

particular order, the observations I made while watching

your "OosterbeekTrailer" are:

1. The helmet chin straps on your men are apparently the

canvas webbing type. These are not typical for British

airborne troops on Op. Market. At that time the vast majority

of British troops were still using the second pattern all-steel

jump helmet with a black leather chinstrap. Webbing

chinstraps were used first by Polish, French and Canadian

airborne troops and only became generally used by British

troops very late in the war and post-war. I can send you pics

of the correct chin strap if you need these.

2. The type of Denison smock used most commonly on Op.

Market was the (so-called) second type (although a small

number did still wear the earlier first pattern smocks for that

operation). The texturing at the cuffs of your troops does not

have a great amount of detail but it appears that all the

troops appear to have green woollen cuff closures. This is not

typical for the type of Denison smock most commonly used on

Op. Market. Woollen cuffs on Denison smocks imply:

a) A first pattern Denison smock (circa 1942) worn only by a

few individuals on Op. Market, the first pattern smocks were

designed and manufactured with woollen cuff closures; or

b) A second pattern smock unofficially modified by adding

stocking tops to the cuff closures - although this was not a

very common wartime practise at all and became more

popular post-war. The wartime second pattern Denison

smocks had cloth cuffs with an adjusting tab and three brass

snap-fasteners to close them. This type was used most

commonly on Op. Market and afterwards; or

c) A postwar dated Denison smock (Denisons were worn by

British troops until the end of the 1970s) which was again

designed and manufactured with woollen cuff closures.

Postwar Denisons can be easily differentiated from wartime

Denisons by their cut and camouflage patterns. I can send

pictures of the cuff closures and details of the second

pattern Denison smocks if required.

4. None of the men appear to be wearing their conspicuous

parachute qualification badge - it should be on the right upper

arm of their Denison smock. Please advise if you need a

picture of the parachute qualification badge.

5. Most wartime airborne troopers wore a green and dark-

chocolate-brown coloured netting face veil as a scarf tucked

inside the neck opening of the smock (this was separate from

the scrim netting worn as a helmet cover). None of your

troops appear to wear such a thing as far as I could see.

Some men of the Glider Pilot Regt. alternatively wore a silk

escape map as a scarf and others (a very few) wore green

camouflage patterned scarves made from US parachute silk.

6. The men are wearing 1937 pattern webbing battle order,

which is correct for the period, however their equipment order

is incomplete and incorrect in some details. I noticed that

their utility pouches (the two large rectangular ones at the

front) appear to be too small, none carries their waterbottle

(always carried in the field) and they do not have their light

assault respirator cases either. Pictures of troops on Op.

Market clearly show them carrying this last item sideways at

the left rear of the belt (at least initially).  The entrenching

tool carriers are also carried a little too high up on the belt.

I have detailed pictures of the light assault respirator (Mk III)

case if you require these.

7. The webbing is also not correctly coloured. Your troops

wear webbing in a mixture of a green and a light golden tan

colour, however, although in fact British webbing equipment

at this time in the war in the E.T.O was always coloured a

mid-khaki green colour by the application of a preservative

paste (called "Blanco" - a there's always a but  trade name)

in colour "Khaki-Green no. 3". Only commonwealth troops in

this theatre wore webbing in a light tan colour (especially

Canadians) and much '37 pattern webbing used today by

many modern reenactors is not correctly blancoed (as it

reduces the value of the pieces). I can send pictures showing

the correct "Khaki-green" colour for the blancoed webbing, if

required

I researched all this some time ago with the intention of

making some WW2 British Airborne troops, until I discoverd

that you guys had it all well-covered already (I'll most likely

be instead making post-war [ie. 1970s] British Paratroopers

for the Northern Ireland mod).

I think 99 out of a 100 people would be willing to overlook these historical inaccuracies - for the sake of the time factor, although in a perfect world it would be nice to get things correct down to the last molecule.

At this stage if in44 started saying things were going to be re-worked, a lot of people that have been following this mod from the start - & genuinely looking forward to it would start to lose the will to live (maybe an exaggeration but you get my drift).

Thanks for your dedication Winters.

@ Mar. 31 2006,17:41)]Errrr, where has the inv44 site gone?

We got the site moved and most of the forum made, should only be a day or two. I was tempted to add a forum to the pub as a temporary place to gather (especially voice actors) but Marss told me ours is just about ready (just need to settle on the categories i believe) to go.

@ Jimpy

thanks, i will compare the ones in the trailer to the newly made ones and see whats what.

@ Lycanthrope

go to this site: http://www.arnhemarchive.org/frames.htm click on "indepth" and start reading from "the plan" that will tell you whats going to be in the campaign, although not EVERYTHING in that outline is included all of the campaign missions are born out of it.

@ OFPCAT

We are trying, we really are.

@ archsceptic

Thanks, i only wish i could do more to get it finshed faster.

Repeat again, dont ask for too much just before the release of any Mod. Just wait and see what will come in. Personally, I think Invasion 44's release should be nice! Any modification could be made in later...

By way, I also made some new updated 43 russian men for matching Invasion 44's SS troops. Winter I think you would release those nice SS men as well in the first phase of Garden Action?

My russian men in later war...

@ Lycanthrope,

The campaign focuses on the units involved, you will play a different guy depending on the unit (Pathfinder, 7th KOSB, etc) thats in the current mission.

@ OFPCAT

Nice pics, our SS will be in phase 1 along with Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe ground troops. We are also going to include units from the demo (Falschirmjaegers, Willys Jeep, M3 Halftrack, 82nd AB troops) that wouldnt have been involved in the fighting at Oosterbeek as a bonus. This will kill the demo campaign and missions but i will update them to make them work again.

@Jimpy

I think you based your comments on the Alpha screens and movies you saw. These were made for a quick ingame look, and quickly released for the team for the Campaign etc.

We currently got complete reworked soldiers, nothing of these guys you saw are left in the new model.

And I did my research... as some of my friends are collectors of the real deal, anyway thats all I wanted to share.
