German movie "Der Untergang"

Ok this topic is especially for the german visitors of this forum.

Tommorrow, 16.09, a new movie hits the theaters. It's called "Der Untergang" and is about the last 12 days of Adolf Hitler (and other significant persons) in his bunker during the fall of Berlin and the end of WWII in Germany and the leadership of the Nazis.

It will be the first movie which tries to document the human Adolf Hitler not only the Leader. But it is still a movie not a documentation so some aspects aren't historically correct!

The movie director is Oliver Hirschbiegel ,won't ring a bell for most people but he's a really great director and made many very good movie's of wich most have gotten excelent ratings by most movie review site's.

Expect a good movie ,and very good actor performance's.

Only to remind you. That´s no ordinary war movie with booom and bang it´s an insight view on Adolf Hitler during his last days before he comitted suicide. Will be no easy entertainment.

If anyone should be interested in a very good book, that this film bases upon, it´s Traudl Jung you should look for. She was Hitler´s secretary and told her story in a very good way.

The book is definately worth a read.

And Bruno Gans has always been one of my favourite german speaking actors. From the excerpts I´ve seen this seems to be another great movie with him.

I would definitely love to see this movie. Unfortunately I and most Americans don't understand German, which is why it probably wont be shown in the U.S.

I hate subtitles, but voice overs are even worse.

It's not because a movie is expensive that it is good ,many recent hollywood movie blockbusters of the past years are a reminder of that ;movies like Pearl harbor sure got a lot of expensive special effects but apart from that the story and actor performance's are fairly mediocre to even bad.

Icefire ,the movie will probably feature in the U.S as well ,since this is a fairly expensive production that will probably atract a lot of visitor's ,subtitle's will be included then afcourse.

like Balshoiw noted ,don't expect a to easy and action packed movie a ,usually Hirschbiegel's movie's feature a lot of psychological topic's ,although it's most of the time filmed pretty smoothly and easily keeping the attention.He does use excelent actor's normally (wich is nessecary for fairly psychological movies) ,i'm expecting a lot of this Bruno Gans guy and the rest of the cast.

I agree with you that the Führer doesn't quite look like the real one but i guess that's acceptable because it's a movie not a documentation. Same with the voice. And in his last days Adolf Hitler looked pretty damn ugly, old and his hands were shaking all the time (like you'll see it in the movie). Perhaps he did know at this time that everything went wrong ... maybe he had parkinson. Who knows, who cares.

Incorrect. Several people that have been with Hitler during the last days have approved that he looked exactly Like this. A former guard of his still alive said he started to shiver when he watched the movie cause it reminded him exactly of the pale face and the desperate rage Hitler was in during the last hours of his life. Dont forget that that they all expected to die through poison too because Hitler usually demanded full obedience.

Hitler had changed throughout the war and this stiff upright man had turned into an old, pale, and pretty ridiculous gnome.

There are orginial moving pictures of Hitler meeting the last child soldiers to be thrown into the battle of Berlin. And yes.. Hitler looked exactly like the actor looks in the film.

No movie actor could ever perform as precise as this swiss theather actor. A brilliant choice. I hope germany comes back to making films like this again instead of trying to compete with Hollywood.

Have anyone of you seen the full length interview with the actual Traudl Junge? The one that's featured as a special in the series "The World at War". You should, it's very interesting. (I have the entire collection of this series on DVD, and although it's 30 years since its making, it's still the best documentary on WWII)
