My list, with reasons for each in []

1) OFP with all mods (especially FDF and WGL) [simply the most flexible and realistic engine around. You can do almost anything with it, and the fighting is the most tense ever]

2) Soul Calibur - only against other humans [takes huge amounts of skill to become very good at, very flexible and responsive, reactive fighting game. Very balanced -not quite perfect, but closest to it yet]

3) Stadium Trials (Java game) [incredibly good physics for a Java game. Very fun and VERY hard]

4) Alpha Centauri. [Amazingly in depth game. Especially the unit creation, which was a great part of the game. Many, many options.]

5) Syndicate [pretty much the first anti-hero game. Great fun and quite realistic for its time- YES, SCI FI CAN BE REALISTIC]

6) Grand Theft Auto (I,III,VC) [Almost total freedom. Great fun, irreverent and addictive. Great music, acting and storyline also]

7) Total War series [For the battles, not the campaign map.]

8) A 10 CUBA [the best flight simulator ever. EVER.]

9) Baldurs Gate series [Great storyline and characters]

10) Sim Copter [great fun and very skillfull. Good humour]

11)Trespasser [because despite the dodgy storyline, and the pretty bad gameplay, this was a good game because of the huge amount of possibilities due to the physics engine.]

Games that I wish made the list but didn't quite: Combat Mission series,Arcanum, Cannon Fodder, Civilisation (I,II, III, etc), Stunt Island(amiga/ amstrad game), Spy vs Spy, Ikaruga, Ghostbusters (Amstrad- both the one based on the film and the other one with the same name which had nothing to do with the film), Hidden and Dangerous (I,II), Streets of Rage series,Final Fight, Silkworm, Ikari Warriors, EINHANDER, DOOM (orig. on Hell).

Probably some others but I cant think of them at the moment.

List of the most overrated games ever:

1) MOH series.(including CoD) [universally crap, overscripted with almost no actual AI. Repetitive and poor replay value. Not to mention the OTT american jingoismin most of them]

2) Quake 3. [ooh. Pretty. Oh, you have memorised where all the best weapons and powerups spawn - you win!]

3) Far Cry. [Overrated : AI, level size, weaponry, engine. Could be improved with mods, but its really not that good. ]

4) Championship Manager series [its A SPREADSHEET. Go play Excel]

*GTA has (I,III, VC) because II was shite compared to the rest, so I am not including that in the series.

1. Operation Flashpoint (unlimited capabilities is what makes it best)

2. Civilization III: Play the World (ahh...the thrill of taking over the world. I'm still hooked to this thing)

3. Little Big Adventure 2 (twas a nice little adventure, back in the days)

4. Grim Fandango (solving a conspiracy in the land of the dead - good humour and a great story)

5. Deus Ex (must be the greatest action-adventure game ever)

6. C&C Red Alert 2 (it took me ages to finish this bitch)

7. XIII (everone loves a good cartoon conspiracy)

8. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outkast (best thing about this is the light saber battles)

9. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (its better than modern flight sims, anyway...much more of a challenge)

10. Age of Empires 2 (just love the campaigns, especially saladin and genghis khan)

I have it on my HD since it was released, and i always play it, always the top title.

Operation Flashpoint

Masterpiece in its own genre, i can't seem to be bored with the game, thanks to the mission editor i play it again and again and....

Doom 1&2

Countless hours of my life devoted to fight those monsters in those levels in Nightmare difficulty, the Doomsday engine gave it a 2nd life just in time.

Hunter (AtariST)

The OFP before OFP , in real advance of its time when i think again about it, it was a very good game.

Delta Forces 1&2

Even if unfortunately the serie degenerated after that and the fact OFP crushed easily the newer episodes , before cheating decide to spread in novaworld i enjoyed those 2 DF games, even offline with the dumb AI.

Dungeon Master/Chaos Strikes Back (AtariST)

I can't remember the numbers of hours spent there, that was so interesting in its time that i don't regret the time lost.

Kick Off (AtariST)

The football game that was the top of the top, oh the memory of how many tournaments played with this game, friends, totally unknow people...

Command&Conquer

My first contact with the RTS genre, so it will always have a special place in my top list as i liked it a lot for the new ground it broke for me.

Rainbow Six

When i installed this game , it was a blast, the action , the strategy planning , it was so original and interesting that it is on my top list (even if Rogue Spear was very good, Rainbow Six stay the only "special" in my memory, i really did not enjoyed the 3rd episode of the serie...)

Swat 3 : Close Quarter Battle

In front of that game i had the same feeling than in front of Rainbow Six , one of the greatest game of all the time, i continue to play it from time to time with those free patches that enhanced the game a lot .

1) Half-Life: FPS King in many aspects.

2) Halo: Screw those who say the storlyine has been done. So what? Excellent gameplay!

3) Final Fantasy 8: Just completed it for the third time!

4) Metal Gear Solid 2: Brilliant!

5) Operation Flashpoint: Best and first war-sim I've ever played.

6) The Ultimate Doom: All 3 original Doom episodes plus an expert-level 4th episode!

7) Command & Conquer: First RTS game I played. Got hooked by the demo, bought the game and managed to beat the NOD campaign (GDI campaign was stupidly hard after mission 12).

8) Worms 2: Worms blowing up other worms and taunting them in silly voices. Genius!

9) Streets of Rage 2: One of the Mega Drive's best beat-'em-ups.

10) The Smufs..... kidding. Fallout: Pretty good RPG romp.

That's my top 10. If you don't agree, who cares? My opinion, not yours!

1) Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (It's not got the best gameplay in the world but I thought it had a great epic, cinematic quality to it that is very rare in games and the characters are thoroughly engaging)

2) OFP (I love the freedom and the activity in the community)

3) Mafia (another great cinematic game with some bloody intense gunfights)

4) Legends of Zelda series (a bit 'kiddy' in looks but considdering I was a mere boy when I started playing these games it holds some nostalgia, and they offer some solid gameplay)

5) Metal Gear Solid series

6) Call of Duty

7) Mario series of platform games (A gaming institution though marred by bad franchising decisions such as Dr. Mario and Mario Party, so I just stick to the platforming incarnation)

8) Sonic the Hedgehog platform series (comparable to Mario but the fact that he lacks dungarees makes him second best)

9) Streets of Rage series (smashing a bottle over someone's head then stabbing them with it until they smash through a phone booth will never get old)

10) Max Payne 1&2 (love the gritty feel of these games)
