ran 0 Posted July 26, 2004 They are banning games for Ragdoll physics, yet German TV is legendary for its ermm.....liberal ideals (Porn on daytime TV) Please dont tell me that isnt true, its the only good thing about Germany (JOKING!!!!) Porn on daytime TV, but also Action Concept TV series (Der Clown, Alarm für Cobra 11, die MotorradCops, Wilde Engel) , where they don't give much of a fuck about the "ragdoll" effect A special mention for Der Clown for its simplistic yet striking and interesting approach appealing the youngest amongst us (A super-hero ŕ la German )
denoir 0 Posted July 26, 2004 They are banning games for Ragdoll physics, yet German TV is legendary for its ermm.....liberal ideals (Porn on daytime TV) Please dont tell me that isnt true, its the only good thing about Germany (JOKING!!!!) paradox, isn´t it you can see naked people whenever you switch on the tv but violence is completely banned and´sometimes movies are cut that hard that you are really missing out on the story. but some time ago they showed titties even in tv adverts for butter I find that far more understandable than when it is the other way around (like on US TV). Equalizing sex and violence is absurd. I cannot understand people that approve of movies showing killing and mutilations and then flip out when they see a naked human body. It's some fucked up latent medieval Christian morality. I'm against censorship either way. I understand that shielding children from it is necessary, but that can be achieved through technical solutions these days.
DracoPaladore 0 Posted July 26, 2004 How are other games sold, like Unreal Tournament 2k*, Hidden And Dangerous 2, and any others that have rag doll? They show ragdoll just as much as FarCry, especially since in H&D2 you are fighting German soldiers(though, I don't remember seeing any swatstikas in the game). joltan 0 Posted July 26, 2004 It should be mentioned that it isn't forbidden to sell these games in Germany - just that if they are 'banned' the shops have to sell them (legally) under the counter without advertising them. Also you must be over 18 years to buy them. The BPJS also rates the games - and there's also a cathegory of '18+ years' that may still be advertised but not sold to minors. I think it's an ok system - not perfect, but better than having advertisement for the newest splatter game on all magazine titles. Gaming companies produce special 'German versions' so they still can advertise them and thus sell more copies.

DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted July 26, 2004 actually I own alot of WWII games and most of them have swasitkas in them.. I think its just games made in european countries(could be wrong though) I know Call of Duty has swastikas, Medal of Honor, European Air War and there is a mod that puts them in IL2... red oct 2 Posted July 26, 2004 i might have seen the esrb label before on one of my many us/uk versions of playstation games, think it´s that redish one with the suggested age in the middle and lots of esrb´s written in tiny letters around it lol just looked into my shelf, they rated mortal kombat trilogy 15+, it´s also banned here the real fun about germany is that we have something similar to the esrb too, called the usk , but the bpjs stands before it and doesn´t care about usk´s suggestions... kinda stupid imho no, that might be a UK version your looking at the ESRB rating is in black and white. the ratings are located on the lower left of the box on the front cover and have a discription of its content on the back of the box. there are 6 different ratings: EARLY CHILDHOOD Titles rated EC - Early Childhood have content that may be suitable for ages 3 and older. Contains no material that parents would find inappropriate. EVERYONE Titles rated E - Everyone have content that may be suitable for persons ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal violence, some comic mischief and/or mild language. TEEN Titles rated T - Teen have content that may be suitable for persons ages 13 and older. May contain violent content, mild or strong language, and/or suggestive themes. MATURE Titles rated M - Mature have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain mature sexual themes, more intense violence and/or strong language. ADULTS ONLY Titles rated AO - Adults Only have content suitable only for adults. Titles in this category may include graphic depictions of sex and/or violence. Adult Only products are not intended for persons under the age of 18. RATING PENDING Titles listed as RP - Rating Pending have been submitted to the ESRB and are awaiting final rating.
SpongeBob 0 Posted July 26, 2004 MATURETitles rated M - Mature have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain mature sexual themes, more intense violence and/or strong language. OFP was rated mature. Yet there's lots of teens under 17 playing. red oct 2 Posted July 26, 2004 im sure there are people much younger playing OFP, but thats the parents problem. sometimes just browsing the forums can at times show what kind of age group plays the game.
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted July 26, 2004 1) not all countries rate it the same 2) the ratings are a guideline, NOT a law. 3) Any children who play games rated too high for them are doing so due to their parents allowing them to do so; either by knowing their children are mature and sensible enough to play, or by being lazy wasters who can't be bothered taking an interest in their kids. I am totally opposed to censorship of any kind.

da12thMonkey 1943 Posted July 26, 2004 I had a chat about how swastikas were censored in Germany a while ago with a German guy I know from another community. He said they're allowed to be shown in artistic and educational media such as films and documentaries but not strictly educational media such as video games where they know they can be removed. He also mentioned the "banning" of certain violent video games in that German stores are prohibited from stocking shelves with 18 rated games, but are allowed to sell them. Aparently this was done in the wake of some school shooting.

korax 4 Posted July 27, 2004 Throw a ragdoll down the stairs, and youll see! Its where soldiers bodies flop around realistically when their dead instead of the same ol death animation

Gollum1 0 Posted July 27, 2004 Throw a ragdoll down the stairs, and youll see! Its where soldiers bodies flop around realistically when their dead instead of the same ol death animation One could understand the motivation of it being banned, ragdoll physics glorify the death of an enemy and makes you watch every bump he makes as he falls down stairs etc. A dying enemy really catches your attention now and you marvel at the way he is thrown into a wall by a shotgun. That said, censorship is bad.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 27, 2004 Ragdoll would be a great effect for a new KungFu game ... wouldnt it? Personally I laughed realy hard every time I saw someone blow up in RTCW. I remember several occasions when people pushed me aside to be the first to reach the battlefield. They overtook me, ran around the corner.. and then the next moment I saw their bloody bones flying around the corner. Comedy at its best.
pogingwapo 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Yeah comedy to you but sadistic violence to some people, especially to German censors maybe.
DracoPaladore 0 Posted July 28, 2004 I have a personal line, really. I don't mind ragdoll, and sometimes add to a realistic effect if a game is going for it. I don't care if it is in or not, but its icing on the cake. Otherwise, I don't like games that take it too far. Like Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2 at the times, which made death seem almost like a joke as the enemy would choke to death on his blood, gurgling while trying to scream through a severed throat, or have limbs amputate and have them crawl around screaming. I know a difference between a game and real life, and they never glorify anything to me. While I don't cry when I see someone thrown down the stairs or backwards by a shotgun,I just feel indifferent. Sure, sometimes you get those funny looking positions, but that value lasts for the first time, and then it gets annoying almost. But, I can say for sure that I would not hesitate and breaking down at any sort of violent sight in real life. It may have been shown in games and movies, but in real life its a person who's suffering. No macho-tough-guy BS here, I doubt many people would be calm after someone was executed by throat cut, or have their heads blown to bits by a weapon in real life. Gollum1 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Otherwise, I don't like games that take it too far. Like Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2 at the times, which made death seem almost like a joke as the enemy would choke to death on his blood, gurgling while trying to scream through a severed throat, or have limbs amputate and have them crawl around screaming. You're assuming that everyone thinks it seems like a joke. Yes, IRL you could have a limb hacked off and crawl around screaming or scream through an open throat so I don't see the joke in it. And yes I have played through SOF 1&2.
