Game like ofp

Recommended Posts

heh, i was just thinking about installing BF again. But the whole thing with all the patches and the punkbuster looks complicated

Only one patch to get to version 1.6 from a base install and punkbuster installs with it (275 megs or something in one patch!!!)

Includes 2 new maps I think, some new weapons and vehicles.

Punkbuster helps eliminate cheating, but they really have to do something about the voting (people vote every 10 secs and the annoying window keeps popping up)

And its true that you know you are kicking butt and doing well when they try to vote kick you,lol

And deckbombers are a problem in games with teamdammage off

I consider Bf42 a fast paced killing game, along the lines of UT and Tribes2,but MP fun

I am often on servers like EA11 which is 24hr Coral Sea map and mostly flying, come play

No game can compare to the immersive and realistic gameplay of OFP

Let's just agree that OFP is the king of the hill, and hopefully shall be for some time.

Other games sometimes can be pleasant diversions, but OFP is always the one I come back to. Have done so for nearly three years now.

Or unpleasant diversions!! wow_o.gif

I bought Generals recently because I thought I would like this, and it had gotten decent reviews, and for $30 I got the base game and the expansion. I played it through the campaing as the US - and haven't touched it since. What a waste of money!! Never even installed the expansion.

Been having too much fun sandboxing with OFP and all the GREAT addons. Seems like there is at least 1 new thing each week.

OFP IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER.

The previous holder of this title for me was M1 Tank Platoon (the original, not the crappy remake)!! M1 stayed as a permanent resident of my HD till the hardware got too fast for the game.

Do we want water like this in ofp2?

http://fz1.fz.se/bildarkiv/images/Joint_Operations/aad.jpg

Yes tounge_o.gif

That's not a special feature for the game.. It's just a common dx effect that most of the new games use.. I have even seen a RTS with such water.

So yes OFP2 will have such water if it will use dx9. It will propably be a newer version of it that looks even better.

Yeah, I still haven't seen anything that matches OFP's features and realism. Some games have better graphics, or a better feature or two, but as a *complete* experience nothing comes close to OFP.

Too bad more people don't seem to know about OFP or refuse to play it. Every time I see those Battlefield ____ games, it pisses me off. smile_o.gif

bleh!

this littlebird is a shame! just look at the bad textures and the unrealistic heli loadout. and it even looks to big.

besides, what are those flashpoints meaning on the background chopper`?

naaaah, there won´t be anything similar to ofp which could rip me away from my good old ofp some time soon

btw: ofp is the only computergame i have installed on my system and i dont feel like i´d need something more.

If you like BF1942, download the Forgotten Hope mod. It too is WW2 based. Since getting v .5, I have not used the stock BF1942 at all. (And with FH .6, it is MUCH better! smile_o.gif ) Much more "realistic" in terms of unit/weapon capability. Bolt action rifles are usefull, no grenading a Sherman or Tiger to death, etc. Also the maps are much better. They have a lot of new ones, and made new maps of locations that were in BF1942 as well. A new Omaha Beach, Arnhem, etc. The FH versions are all new (not a simple modification) and SOOOOOO much better. Oh, and snipers kit isn't available in many maps (though a few are scattered on some maps) so you don't get 20 "snipers" running around funking up the game. wink_o.gif

OFP is still the better IMO, but FH is easy to log in, get in a 60 player game, and have some nice quick n' gritty action.

Flashpoint is still Flashpoint.

Only OFP2 could outdo OFP in my mind. tounge_o.gif

In what game can you aim, shoot and..miss a guys head at 2000 meters?

Unfortunately most games uses BSP trees for high detail close quarter combat. Call of Duty, sniping is limited to 200 meters!? :-/

OFP is pretty unique with the space.

Is it a special feature that they are standing on the bottom of the river? ;P (can see their legs in the water)

Even the Far Cry demo shows it's not a tunnel FPS.

Lack of working iron sights diminshes this game an immense amount in my eyes, such a small simple thing, what kind of thought makes them choose to not put them in?

while it doesn't have an iron reticle, it does have a "zoom" feature that brings the gun sight a bit closer to the eye and steadies the gun's aim. Also the sniping is interesting in that you can hold your breath for a steadier and closer shot. From the top of a hill I got a snipe kill from 400 meters, or somewhere in that range. The islands are too highly vegetated to really snipe from farther than that, although I did take a boat out into the water a ways from shore, then I clicked the space bar to get out of the drivers seat. When you do that, you can walk around in the boat, so I crouched down and sniped a dockfull of bad guys.

This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see in OFP2, i.e. when you get out of the drivers seat of a boat, you'll be standing in the boat. Also, you can swim in FarCry since the ocean is actually true 3-D, unlike in ofp where it's more of a kill zone. Another cool thing that might help to lower the # of action menu items is how in Far cry you press the "Use" button (spacebar for me) to get into a vehicle. I can then press ALT to switch between Gunner, passenger and driver very quickly, all without having to fumble around with an action menu. It's got some really nice concepts for vehicle usage.

Physics are a lot of fun too. I've rolled heavy barrels down hills to kill the mercs without firing a shot. Also when u run over barrels and such in the Hummer, it reacts very realistically and catches in the wheels, etc. You can shoot chains or ropes as well. I shot the rope on a rope bridge and sent some mercs plummeting into the ravine. I shot the chain to a large crate suspended in a room and splatted quite a number of miscreants. All in all it's quite a bit of fun.

I don't know how far cry would do with really large islands in it. The foliage and such is amazing. I'm running it with most of the eye candy turned up on my Radeon 9800 and it goes without a hiccup. Maybe there's a large island later in the game. I s'pose I'll see.

Either way, this is a sleeper hit, IMHO that has pre-emptively outdone Half-Life 2....should that game ever see the light of day. ;)

Yep I know but you're still aiming with that horrible yellow crosshair, it just detracts from the whole feel of the game, if I could at least change it to a red dot or something it would be a help, but aiming wise Opf has definitely spoiled me for future games. Loved the way COD did it, while the right mouse button is held down the gun is at your shoulder aiming through the site, let go and it moves down again.

Oh, I never changed it after my host for it went away. I'll try to fix it if I can find that pic...

Yes, I understand about iron sites. I'd love to have them, but I'm still immensely enjoying the other aspects of the game. CoD did a great job with those. I played another MOH expansion pack after playing CoD and felt cheated, since that doesn't even have the "zoom" feature.

Anything is better to me, however, than the way Ghost Recon was. I couldn't even play the first mission. I felt like a disembodied reticle floating around. The only way you could see what weapon you had selected was from a small icon on your HUD. Pure rubbish.

I've been playing FC on my new 21.3" Samsung LCD monitor. It's amazing how much that adds to the game. I've been especially having fun with WWII plane dogfights in OFP MP now.

I agree with Placebo on the ironsights, except I don't like COD so I would compare it to H&D2 (IMO best WWII game ever) smile_o.gif
