I have got the feeling that SFP focuses on quantity while OWN focuses on quality. People value different things. The driver IS the gunner in the Strv 103 (S-TANK).. anyways the tank was a bad idea from the start.. it just sucks.. it can't fire on the move, when dug in it provides a bigger target than a Centurion tank (wich lasted longer in Swedish service) .. the_shadow 0 Posted December 21, 2003 first of all, the S-tank was supposed to be a defensive tank, not offensive (we used the centurions for that) and its supposed to be camouflaged and dug in with just the barrel sticking out in front, and i can tell yuo this, hitting a tank with 3 meters of mud infront can be quite challanging, especially when it is as low as it is. (around half the height of a centurion) beside that it has a really higy rat of fire (20 rounds/minute) a long and accurate 105mm smoth bore gun with a huge punch and it´s also really fast, i mean it has a dedicated backward driver if they hav to retreat in a hurry and still being able to fire at anamy (although it wont be easy to hit but lucky shots do happen you know) the downside of the tank was its short tracks (harder to climb obstacles) and complicated suspension (prone to brake down) besides that, it was really good at what it was suposed to do Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

the_shadow 0 Posted December 22, 2003 if im not wrong US SFOD have run into a couple of them in sout america , and how the hell they ended up there is a huge mystery becouse we have never (officially) sold anyone. anyway, the SFOD is according to the version i have heard supposed to had a bit trouble knocking of these bastards (AT weapons did´nt do any harm from the position they fired at it (front) becouse of the RSV bars in front of it.... in the sides it would probably have smacked it quite hard no, if this story is true or just a makup tho brag about the "tank" i dont know, but probably it is. (a makup that is) anyway, it´s mora a SP AT gun then a tank. as long as it shhots first it would probably do alright ;) even thoug it is all other then invisible on IR (smoke exhaust pointed upwards straight over the engine results in a HUGE heat cloud above it) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

(around half the height of a centurion) A dug in 103 shows more front area than a dug in Strv 104 as the hole you put it in have to be big enuff so that the 103 can turn (to be able to aim the gun) and surely the oncoming enemy will not stand still... Anyways here is the Colonels report on STRV-103 http://www.forsvarsframjandet.org/FMF-98-4/Strv-103.htm There is a rumor that a Strv-121 shot a full caliber training round straigt thru a 103 when we first got it.. don't know if its true but I've heard it from a officer at P7 Revingehed..
