tankieboy 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Looks good and looking foward to it. Just one question: Can AI land on it?
AKM 0 Posted October 8, 2003 That's a damned fine cargo container ship you've got there. For some coastal cities, you should make one of those fairly standard Fishing Trawlers. I've got some pictures of the Russian Rem Fjord (Yeah, I know that's a Norwegian name, she used to be Norwegian, but she got sold to the Russians, who currently have repainted her superstructure a cream tan and repainted her black hull, and stenciled in the Cryllic markings so far. Well, she's flying the Russian flag and that's good 'nough for me.) that's in harbour now, but they are nowheres good enough for modeling. Least not to your quality Sigma. Taking a harbour or other similar port will kick some serious ass now. AK
ExtracTioN 0 Posted October 8, 2003 If you could make a civilian fisher ship that would be cool
-Ash- 0 Posted October 8, 2003 This looks great sigma 6! Reminds me of the Ship the british used to transport Harriers to the Falklands back in 82. They actually operated 2 harriers off its deck as aircover! This is actually a very useful machine your building there M8 You mean Atlantic Conveyor?
Jinef 2 Posted October 8, 2003 Ok one thing you need, BIG lights. Lights which you can see from 2 km away, lights that flare your nightvision up. BIG lights! Of course have the right colour lights corresponding to port/starboard. I'm not going to insult you guys general knowledge and tell you.
philcommando 0 Posted October 8, 2003 This ship looks good. Some things i would like to share with u are:- 1. geometry and all other LOD for a movable ship is 70m X 70m. 2. It is possible to get Ai to move base on commands about in the ship based on my latest experiments with path lod, making it more interactive then the other ships i have created. 3. Check my post on PathLOD in Oxygen 02 modelling for the details. Best of luck!:-)
Guest #### Posted October 8, 2003 her name is fred! Sigma-6 29 Posted October 8, 2003 Lots of great comments and suggestions, but I'm going to have to hearken back to page 1 of this thread, and quote myself. (illustrating the benefits of reading the whole thread again) Quote[/b] ]Well. . . I'll get the confessions out of the way ASAP, so that people aren't disappointed when it's released. . . I think it's better to release it instead of not releasing it because it has the same problems as the LST.It's 200 meters long, so that means it has geometry LOD bugs. often, if you have a boat next to it, your boat will go through because of this. Hence: >"1. geometry and all other LOD for a movable ship is 70m X 70m." if you're on deck, and you walk away from the helipad in the center, after about 30m, you'll fall through the deck. there are some visibility bugs if you're crew, and a few other things. Personally, I think it's a nice piece of scenery for cutscenes and missions with ports, and little more than that. Yeah, It's got a flag proxy, and yeah, the nav lights are in the right places. BraTTy 0 Posted October 8, 2003 Nice ship ! Need any help give a holler and I would like to beta test for you before you release please. I could help with the lods and geometry,I also have a few tricks up my sleeve. Great work !

Powerslide 0 Posted October 9, 2003 Ya looking good Sig. Lets put some seacans on the deck, I have them ready.
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 9, 2003 Well, I've bowed to pressure a bit here, and in the interest of making it a bit functional, I've added a second, smaller set of ships that are about 70 meters long (something like a 17,000 DWT Bulker) that have full set of working roadways. There are still geometry bugs because, well, they're ships, so occasionally weird stuff happens. . . but anyway, here's a pic to illustrate the scale we're talking about, and why the larger one is really just AI driven or static scenery. theavonlady 2 Posted October 9, 2003 Wow, dark  Wow, LOL Yes, dark. Could you lighten up that pic a bit, S6?

Sgt. Stryker 0 Posted October 9, 2003 very nice, so are players goign to be able to go under deck and explore/ kill. Also just an idea, but make a ststic version with gaping hole in the side and kinda leaning, or something to that effect.

cbfasi 4 Posted October 9, 2003 It is starting to look like the Merchant Service will be well represented in OFP. Personally I think these larger ships are fine as statics as they can be fought over, the small craft under 70m can be used to do the approach's & chase's. I am working on quite a number of mercs used in the Falklands that actually saw combat, and yours sigma is not of any of the types I am working on, which means that there will be a good variation of ships. My collection will include... 'Truck/Lorry' Ferries, used for moving those large artics between ports (3 already under construction) North Sea Ferry (maybe 2) Large Container ship modified for Carrier work (already Under construction) 1 Cruise ship!!! I might if I get time do a 'J' Class Mearsk tanker as a non Flk project but its a matter of time at the moment. For my ships there will be limited internal detail intially although that can be changed at a future time. I do think your larger ship look the best of these, the smaller one looks very odd... I also suggest sorting the plimsol line out, there would nt be so many copies along the side (as far as I know)
waffendennis 0 Posted October 9, 2003 Yep you could thrust CBFASI he is one of the best if it comes to building ships in OFP So w/e he say's or give tip's you should work with that because he got's a lot of expirence with ships... But those ship(s) rulles all
iNeo 0 Posted October 9, 2003 Hey this is great news, especially if it isn't just static. Yummie, hi-jacked merchant ship loaded with explosives headed towards the whatever-bridge Good counter-terrorist scenario. Edit: How far along in the development are you? ETA?
Sigma-6 29 Posted October 9, 2003 Quote[/b] ]Anyway, I like the bigger one better, small one looks a bit funny Well, they're both based on actual plans from Polsteam, so if it looks 'funny', that'd be because you prefer larger ships. Â I never give ETA. Quote[/b] ]Personally I think these larger ships are fine as statics as they can be fought over, the small craft under 70m can be used to do the approach's & chase's. So you can board statics, and the Geo LODs work if they're over 70m? Or have I misread you?
