The island has been done for a little while, have tinkered with it a little bit but nothing major. It just sitting there.....waiting for something...

something isnt right bas is giving way to much attention to the crying community ( i wonder..........) wich they never realy have done before (there statement it comes when it comes) question for BAS .... is the island ready and are you teasing us ?? i dont hope so because then i will have to get angry at you again mad_o.gifmad_o.gifmad_o.gif i can get angry but theres one thing i can do and that is WAIT WAIT WAIT tounge_o.gif

hope its done soon and i hope its going to be a quality addon as we are used to from BAS

from the size of it.. wats it gonna be like with the other addons... i have a feeling that when we add this OFP is gonna not work properaly again.. do u have any idea into how many addons we will be able to use with the map aswell? coz i use all the addons i have and to have one map take over them.. well its worrying

I use all the bas addons and bas betas, and other user made addons like lasers spetsnatz and sometimes op frenchpoint with the isle, havent had a memory map error in a long time, dont even think ive had one from the isle at all.

Please tell me that the Lost Island isn't going to be packed with extra BAS addons. I love BAS, but my 56k will take enough abuse downloading a 70MB file, without the addition of 10 extra MBs of units.

An island should not be packed with units.

This island is no different than any other when it comes to making missions with them.

And despite the fact that due to the quality of the work involved most addons BAS make get used, this does not mean we want them all packaged together.

Island should remain seperate. I am sure they see the sense in this anyway. wink_o.gif

But I'm still worried that they might do this. After all, I believe that Nagual said that the island was done biggrin_o.gifbiggrin_o.gifbiggrin_o.gif , but that it's "waiting for something" wow_o.gifmad_o.gifcrazy_o.gif .

Will the African militia be released together with the island ?

And will some of the buildings be enterable ?

Just a suggestion, but if you have some spare time on your hands...and if all the land textures are in a separate pbo, then why not spend some time making 128x128 versions of all those textures?

If they have exactly the same names, and the pbo has the same name, then the game won't have any trouble putting them in the right places, and it means people who have 56k modems (and don't understand what a download manager, or patience is) will have an easier time with the island.

A. I hate download managers. Usually they're just slightly concealed spyware.

B. I only have one phone line. I've got to keep it clear from the early morning to late evening, so there is a certain limit to what I can squeeze in tounge_o.gif .

To anyone worried about the size of this island and the dreaded "cannot memory map" bug, I have two suggestions:

#1 Get the 1.92 Beta, if you don't already. One of the specifics problems it addresses if management of addon loading

#2 For those (like me) too daunted by Kegetys suggestion for unpacking PBOs, try this quick fix: move O.pbo and all other large addons from your flashpoint/res/addons folder to your flashpoint/addons folder. Since I've done this I haven't had a single memory map error, when I used to get them quite often. In fact, I dumped everything from res/addons to /addons, overwriting the older files with new ones, and have had no probs.

I believe this is our decision to make, not anyone elses.

Why would that be the case, I would think having units and an island in one nice little neet package, would make it easier, just like NamPack did for Nam addons.

Actually i dont see it that way AvonLady, without going into too much detail, everything you need for an african mission is now all in one package, there are 3 different types of armed forces that will be shipped with the island, two of which are well armed and well organized, and have a large compliment of vehicles, so i dont see why splitting it up is the way to go.

Surely it would be more beneficial to the mission maker if he made an addon on Lost Island that he would therefore have the vast amount of units to use as well, there are various other mods or addons, ie Nam Pack, FDF, I44, Winter Nogojev, Desert Malden etc that have shipped with both an island and units and they are all used a great deal, they also have a large amount of missions made for them which i believe you value most of all?

So splitting them up doesnt seem very logical to me.

Maybe I'm confused, I thought it was referring to packaging them all up in the same PBO. This was done with desert soldiers on one of the early desert island versions by STT or SEB.

In any case, let's say the island PBO is 100% error-free but a texture is missing in the unit's PBO. Eventually, to correct this, an updated file containing just the units will most probably be released.

Also, once the unit addon is out, it may be used in many missions (I wish) on other islands. Why force players to download what they don't need? I don't see anything beneficial about wrapping them up together.

edit: OK, Eviscerator, point taken about the initial release. But later on, there may still be a need to update just the units and issue the update separately.

Oh, then no, they are in seperate PBO's.

And no, i dont think an update would ever be released with just the units in. There are other ways round this, either by using the small bug as a time to update the island, or we could use a patching program that updates the PBO without the user having to download the whole addon.

As for the units being used on other islands, well again, with those other addon packs i mentioned there was no provision for this and there was very little or no requests by mission makers or users to split the units up from the island.

Dont understand how you can just come along and say that. As evis has been saying, it not "just" an island, but scenario pack, providing an entire detailed world for mission maker to plug into. The island is actually directly connected to the other addons, eg, places are built specifically for them, land textures blend with their camo ect.

The island would not exist without the units, it would just be another addon, no different for mission making. I dont play with bis units anymore, so want an island released with no mission or campaign?

Lol, its just a really, really uninformed thing to say, like walking in at end of conversation and trying to say a conclusion to someones elses words. Or like saying "please dont continue working on what you been envisioning all year".

Lol, why not go tell I44 to take isle out their pack, or the nam pack? hehehe

i am for the idea to release it as a whole including the units who cares ? aslong as the island and the troops are 99% bug free
