shadow 6 Posted November 2, 2005 The main reason for closing long threads is that it is not possible to search individual posts in a thread. In this iB version anyway.
walker 0 Posted November 8, 2005 Hi Moddies I want to ask that the  "War against terror" be re-tiltled to the "Anti terror" or "Terrorism" or "Terrorism Prevention" thread. I made the following argument as to why in the thread: Quote[/b] ]...we need to stop calling this a war on terror it is a police action. War is things like WWII or GWII or the Russian Afghan war or the Vietnam War or the continuing action in Iraq is War. (It is one the coalition has supposedly won according to George Bush Jnr, a couple of years back when he pretended to fly on to that carrier, yet people still seem to be fighting and dieing there. Hmm when is an insurgency not a war? Was the War between the Afghans and the Rusians war? )This world wide terrorism thing that is not war. It is police action requiring lost of policemen and security agents but battalions of troops, squadrons fighters, fleets of ships, artillery barrages, all arms assaults and multilayer battle plans with generals the rules of war. I think the decision by George Bush Jnr to call it a war legitimised the terrorists. If it is a war the Geneva convention applies. People need to stop calling it a war. We should probably change the title of this thread and stop glorifying the terrorist. After all they are really just criminals like burglars or drug dealers or pedophiles. We need more police and security service actions to catch these criminals like these successful ones in Australia that is how to beat the terrorist criminals. Basicly I think we need to stop providing the oxygen of publicity to such terrorists that legitimising and elevating their status to being involved in a war gives; with all its attendant baggage of being warriors, giving medals, having a reasoned political objective argued by a political party, a nation and leaders to sign surrender and treat with etc. Kind Regards Walker
Placebo 29 Posted November 8, 2005 Basicly I think we need to stop providing the oxygen of publicity to such terrorists I really don't think that too many terrorists (or politicians) lose much sleep over a meaningless thread in a video game discussion forum. Changing it's name to "War on polka dot dresses" has about as much chance of changing the world as calling it anything else

bn880 5 Posted November 11, 2005 I want to know why the Amman thread would get locked, when in the past even though I have pointed this out with vigor, therads of Anglophone (and their colonies) countires being bombed are allowed to stay open. It seems to me that there is a very heavy bias in the moderation. Even so much as to ban me for asking that the UK bomb attack should be locked, while locking the Amman therad yourselves.... Balschoiw 0 Posted November 11, 2005 Just checked the comments section on the Armed Assault page. I guess it needs a broom and some cold water badly: Quote[/b] ]picasso you dumb bi....i gonna tell you something:im waiting two years for fucking flashpoint 2,then they say first quartal 2006 ,now it is said end of 2006,and i bet in some month these bi bitch..will tell us that we have to wait till 2007!!!!!!!!!i play ofp sinc 2003 and i love it,but i just have to tell you something bohemia interactive:FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU,and move your asses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess this is nothing a game developer wants to have on his page for a new product. Now I know why most of the OFP pages removed their commenting system after a while. No big surprise. Major Fubar 0 Posted November 12, 2005 I want to know why the Amman thread would get locked, when in the past even though I have pointed this out with vigor, therads of Anglophone (and their colonies) countires being bombed are allowed to stay open.It seems to me that there is a very heavy bias in the moderation. Even so much as to ban me for asking that the UK bomb attack should be locked, while locking the Amman therad yourselves.... I thought the reasons I gave in that thread were pretty self explanatory... There is no "bias" among the moderators that I am aware of. I simply closed a thread about a topic that was already covered in an existing thread. As I said, just because I closed the thread to keep the conversation more centralised to existing threads was in no way meant to belittle the incident. As for "anglophone" threads staying open, I can't really say. I can only speak for myself, in that if I saw a new thread about an "anglophone" incident that was already covered in an existing (and lengthy) thread, I would close that one too... The simple fact of the matter is that we allow people to discuss politicis, wars and real world incidents in the OT section as a courtesy. That courtesy does not extend to having dozens of topics or one for each and every incident that occurs. It's a simple matter of practicality.
Colossus 2 Posted November 12, 2005 So BIS team, what do you think of the Norway - Czech Rep. game so far? Nice sandbox we have, eh? Â

Placebo 29 Posted November 16, 2005 So BIS team, what do you think of the Norway - Czech Rep. game so far?Nice sandbox we have, eh? Being English I was much more interested in the England v Argentina game, cracking match as it was Dear mr. Moderator, please add a Troubleshooting , OFP missions, User missions, Multiplayer, and Squads and Fanpages section to the OFP:Elite section. thanks in advance, Gand. I'll take the request under advisement. If the activity warrants it then there's no reason not to have it split as the other games are, just right now the activity doesn't seem to warrant it

BlackScorpion 0 Posted November 18, 2005 Is it OK to make a new thread about a site that has all sorts of animations that are done with Legos? The newest one is Rainbow Six 3 intro, but with Lego fellas... Finnish team, darn funny ( ). Well?
Placebo 29 Posted November 18, 2005 I think it's a bit too offtopic really, maybe if they have animations re-creating war movies?
harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 19, 2005 How about a thread covering all kinds of animated takes on war themes, moderators? BlackScorpion's lego-theme animations could go in, and somewhere I've got the link to a 30-sec flash anim summarizing "Saving Private Ryan", performed by bunnies . Could go in the humour thread, but i think this stuff might warrant its own section. Respectfully yours, Harley
BlackScorpion 0 Posted November 19, 2005 Well, none of the animations seem to have a war theme, but apparently over 2 thirds of their animations includes killing someone . Well, anyways, here's the link. The English section isn't as clear and fancy looking as the Finnish one, but I think you'll find all you need there. http://mbnet.fi/hovinet/ And for the R6 III movie: http://kurimus.org/~hovinet/mpg/S4e02_Rainbow_Troops_3Mb.mpg (best quality, MPEG, 63 megs)

BlackScorpion's lego-theme animations could go in, and somewhere I've got the link to a 30-sec flash anim summarizing "Saving Private Ryan", performed by bunnies . I think such topics really don't have much scope for conversation beyond the usual type of "cool, wow, boring, lame" etc. etc. I think we can come up with topics allowing for more indepth conversations
gandalf the white 0 Posted November 25, 2005 *takes a can of gasoline and a match* Dear moderators, This question might have been asked before, but if we cannot ask or demand anything regarding Arma, why is that forum still open? I understand it can be used to announce fansites (wich is unnecicary with the information we have), or discussing the features we do know. However, looking at the first page I only see the "how shall we celebrate the release" thread as "allowed" (since there are no questions, requests, or hopes in the first post), I think a topic like this could be moved to BI General, don't you agree? I do not care what you hope to accomplish by treating us like this, however, seeying the Arma section heating up at a steady pace in the last week, I think it is better to lock it down before more people do stupid things. Just my moderator instincs speaking though. Goodnight, Gandalf the White.
Colossus 2 Posted November 26, 2005 Might I suggest to make the ArmA board to a blog page? No new treats or polls, just posting. It's already been suggested
harley 3 1185 0 Posted November 26, 2005 I suggest to the Pantheon of mods that it be entered into the Forum Rules that starting a release thead in the Armed Assault be made a "punishable" offense, to lend (even more) weight to Hellfish6's threat to shut down every one which pops up, and which has been ignored three times to date now. Sure, there are many people who want answers, but I don't like the way certain members are actually becoming militant over it! Just my two cents, anyway. hellfish6 7 Posted November 26, 2005 I'm not against release threads - I'm against release threads that involve nothing but rumor and conspiracy theories. Every thread I've closed down in there involved a handful of bad apples, who are now PRed by the way, running their mouths about things they don't know anything about and creating unfounded rumors and near-panic (you should see some of the messages I got from people on MSN - they were thinking that the sky was falling and ArAs was being cancelled! Madmatt just started the first substantial thread about an ArAs release I've seen in a long time, hence I'm leaving it open. If people try to be coy and start spewing crap again, I'm gonna close it.
