Su27, mig21, jag, bucc finals

Recommended Posts

Right, back after a weekend of Sturmovik cockpit and

GTA:VC (nice stuff, but more of the same, really).

I've put together a list of the planes used by the UK forces

post WW2 -

Blackburn Buccaneer

Fairey Gannet

Hawker Hunter

English Electric Lightning

Gloster Javelin

McD Phantom

Supermarine Scimitar

Hunter Sea Hawk (nothing to do with modern Hawk)

De Havilland Sea Vixen

Supermarine Swift

BAC TSR.2

Vickers Valiant

Handley Page Victor

Avro Vulcan

EE Canberra

De Havilland Comet/ Nimrod

SEPECAT Jaguar

Tornado

Harrier

- Mostly stolen from the excellent

Thunder and Lightnings

- any obvious errors/omissions?

For the primary ground attack role in OFP in the last 20 years,

the list boils down to:

Bucc

Jag

Tornado

Phantom

Harrier

and, at a push, the V-bombers (+ Canberra).

For myself, I was thinking of the Sea Vixen - mainly to go

with the Bucc on the FLK Hermes mod. Plus, it has that

whacky twin boom design. Plus maybe the Nimrod - although

it's more of a _long-range_ patrol aircraft.

NoLips/Crippler - I think we can help each other out when in

need...

Wow thanks for that Footmunch, I hope we'll be able to get some really great aircraft out biggrin_o.gif

I've finished the Gulf War textures for the Buccaneer- they're not brilliant, but it seems to work well on the desert maps smile_o.gifDOWNLOAD IT HERE I've also added Skaircro's auto ejection seat script (thanks Skaircro smile_o.gif) to it smile_o.gif Have fun!!!

Wow! Great work!!! I LOVE the new engine sounds. I hope that Footmunch incorporates the new features into the original bucaneers and the other aircraft as well.

When I fly the bucaneer, especially with your new engine sounds, I really get the feeling of being on a combat mission. I need to find some good heart pounding music to make a mission with this. Just like the real thing, it's flight handling characteristics are so good. It's super fun flying along at low level on the Desert Malden map and then surprising enemy as I drop the retarded bombs on them. Who needs smart bombs when ya got retarded bombs! smile_o.gif

I just wish we had some UK troops in desert BDU's to supply air support to. We need some hardcore Gurkha soldiers also! I've noticed that they're pulling VIP security in Iraq. Those guys are mean looking. smile_o.gif

These addons (desert as well) are fantastic, but one thing i have noticed is that the Mk82's are really really weak, i mentioned this in the other thread where crippler was asking for cpp help, but at the minute the FFAR's are doing more damage than the Mk82 (FFAR is doing 700 damage whereas the Mk82 is only doing 500 damage), most addon makers are using a value of 5000 damage for Mk82's (Including Col Klink's A-4 and G8's Tornado's).

Quote[/b] ]Yeh I think we flew one all the way over to the Falklands (with lots of inflight refueling) and then attacked a runway.

Yup it was called operation Black Buck, unfortunatley they missed the runway, but it still scared the argies a bit biggrin_o.gif

He also forgot the Foland Gnat, Boeing E-3 Sentry, Avro Lincoln and Avro Shackleton.

Also transport planes worth considdering: Shorts Belfast, Vickers VC-10, Lockheed Tristar and C-130 Hercules (you could retexture Hawk's awesome looking one when that comes out but a C-130J'd be nicer.)

There are plenty of other transport planes we brits have made but they're not hugely exciting.

Yeh I did increase the damage a bit, but obviously not enough, sorry- maybe this improved damage could be put onto that deluxe Buccaneer footmunch? (I dont think its worth me releasing a new version of mine with the damage just changed a bit)

Yup! Whatever you guys decide on doing. Probably best anyways to work on multiple aircraft that way you guys won't get bored with one aircraft and quit working on it (that happens alot sadly).

Ack! Nooooo! Have you ever played one of the OFP jet addons that went that fast. They suck. They take you across the island in a few seconds and are damn near impossible to turn or fly in any usable manner. Likewise the AI just zip around and hardly hit anything.

Best to keep their speed to that of Footmunch's Jaguar or the Falklands Mod A-4 Skyhawk. They still look like they are flying fast sometimes but they are still very usable.

Early Sea Vixen shots:

vix_1.jpg

vix_2.jpg

vix_3.jpg

vix_4.jpg

Note - Placeholder textures only - mainly just a demo of

the mesh. Shadow (ie LODs) and control surfaces done -

weapons, cockpit and texturing (oh joy) to go.

Crippler - Nice work. I'll post a mirror at:

Footmunch site

Oh and that engine sound is being stolen as we speak.

Evis - Since we don't have a good absolute value on the

damage in the cpp, I just went on what the bombs

actually did. A single Paveway from the LGB Bucc is good

enough to take out a T-80 - do we really want the bomb to

do more damage? The Mk82, given a good hit, will disable a

tank to the point where the crew jump out - isn't this

enough?

I did a fair amount of testing on these values, and I

think maybe the FF rockets are a little over-powered. Plus,

there's the whole indirecthitrange thing - if we make this too

high, then the planes can get caught in the blast from the

bomb itself.

This isn't a bash on the standards you were putting together,

and I think the community really needs them. Plus, I don't

necessarily want to disagree with people like Col. Klink and

G8, so I may change the values again...

PS - Some mod group is doing the Skyraider aren't they?

Either DKM or BAS is it?

PPS - Do the UK armed forces use the Hawk as an attack

aircraft? I have some back-brain idea it was only used for

training by the RAF, rather than appearing on the front line.

CBFASI - Oh, you mean like this:

carrier.jpg

I beleive the setting is familiar to you.

The folded version are currently statics, as there are a couple

of wrinkles to iron out in a player-controlled 'Fold Wings'

command (eg Do we want to check that the engine is off? Do

we want a Bucc placed in the mission to start with folded

wings? Do we rotate the rocket pods, and if so do we rotate

L Raketa and P Raketa, or disallow firing the rockets? etc).

Also, I want to include some scripting that will randomly

change the designation letters seen under the wing (chose

a particular texture file from a set of, say, 10, and apply it

at init), so that a line of Bucc's don't look like the same model

over and over again.

NoLips - Mmmmm Hunter. There should be some overlap on the

weapons for this and the Vix, so we should make sure we don't

re-invent the wheel or, in this case, the Bullpup, FireFlash

and Red Top missiles - man, we (the UK) may not have the

best technology industry left any more, but we sure can name

military hardware.

WOW! I agree the Vixen looks beautiful. Like you said, the British may not have the most high-tech planes these days, but they sure made some BEAUTIFUL looking aircraft.

Looks like you're doing excellent work Footmunch and I'm glad you guys are working together to make sure you don't duplicate the same weapons. smile_o.gif You also might want to concentrate first on aircraft that were used up until the 80's and 90's so that way they are compatible with most of the current OFP addons including the British soldier addons that are out already (Bibmi's and the Maldivas Mod British troops).

Keep up the great work!

Those are some damn sweet planes, all I can say is don't rush them as hurriedly made planes can ruin all that hard work.

I've been messing around with the Jaguar (I think I might do an RAF grey retexture smile_o.gif) and have changed the proxys a bit to come up with this:-

Jag1.jpg

It works great as well smile_o.gif (I copied a lot of it off the Buccaneer) At the moment there are only 2 on it, but I'll learn how to add more proxys and put more on biggrin_o.gif

these all look FAB, my only concern is that they might be rushed out, guys take your time get it right and get it good:D

i tried the buccaneer and itq quite promising, full of bugs and such but a good start, i kin walk through it, theres 2 seats but only 1 person kin get in, and the textures are ok but not great, keep up the good work guys

I am very very very.................................. impressed with what I am seeing, I wish yu had foudn you skills much earlier footmunch, we would all be flying British planes.

Seeing both a Sea Vixen and Buccaneer means I need to improve my Hermes to ensure it fits in with the new air arm.

I'm mainly doing the Vixen as a companion for the Bucc and

the '68 Hermes, and as an excuse to get away from the

original 4 planes for a while. Also, the plane itself is a little

different than the standard boxes with wings.

As for the timeline - the only planes left that fall into the

80's and 90's scheme are the Phantom and Tornado. These

have both been announced, IIRC, by respected

modellers: Col. Klink and ColourChanger respectively.

Sorry for the edit, just realised that the EE Lightning was still

in service in '85. Interesting...

As for bugs, lack of scripting, shoddy textures, I know. God,

do I know. The main reason I released them in the state

they're in is because there didn't seem to be any alternatives

available (no disrespect to such addons already released or in

the works). At the same time, I realise that the perpetual

beta that many addons drift into is a very bad thing. At this

point, I'm thinking that the best idea would be to concentrate

on one at a time, release in a 'finished' state, and move on.

But that can be a fairly boring routine for a 'hobby' that one is

supposed to enjoy.

I guess it comes down to a balance between:

You can't please all of the people all of the time.

and,

Taking pride in your work.

Man, when I get this philosophical, I know it's time to go

home.

I know the feeling so well Footmunch, and thank you for the companion for the Buccaneer on Hermes.

Canberra's are still in use btw...... very few but they still got a special place.

If you want some nice oldish planes that look a little different, how about the

Blackburn Beverley, service 1953-1968

Hawker Siddeley Argosy, service 1961-1975 (withdrawn as an economy measure)

Both are RAF transports, and just happen to be suited to the sort of African locations that could be in OFP2 (now this is called forward planning!!)

Another thought, some of these older aircraft are still in service with some of the poorer nations, whether with insurgents or the respective militaries, consider the South African Airforce is using the DC-3, admittedly with new engines, but its still a DC-3

I also wanted to add that the Vulcan bomber and the Nimrod have been used until very recently. Both were definitely used into the 80's so they fall perfectly into the time period that OFP simulates.

The Vulcan bomber I think has to be one of the coolest looking bombers I've ever seen. It almost looks like a stealth aircraft with its beautifully rounded wings. If anything, even more then the Nimrod, I hope you will consider making one of these. There are various scripts that can be used to simulate carpet bombing, but also, as you probably know the Vulcan can carry a wide load of missiles and other weaponry. Perhaps when the CoC cruise missile is complete, a Vulcan bomber addon could carry one of those! That would be amazing!
