I think guns are depicted as a solution in many agencies of socialisation, how many times in a film have you heard the line like "If he doesn't talk then i'll shoot him" or something that ends up with a completely nonchalant threat. In Britain gun crime is increasing, but it's still very low compared to a lot of other countries, and our police still don't feel it neccesary to walk around with firearms. Also, maybe this is bollocks, but in a lot of American films the police always draw their guns when apprehending a suspect, doesn't this give out the impression that they can just shoot anyone they want to? In Italy for example you see police walking around with submachine guns, but i've hardly seen in their films their police running around pointing guns at people who stole a pack of fags.

Anyway my point is that guns are not given a lot of respect, a 22. can easily kill some one and yet you see people wielding them around going "ahh it's just a 22., not very effective". In a place like Northern Ireland you realised how vulnerable people were (it's better over there now) and you see how destructive guns are, but you got arnie killing hundreds with his 8 M60s and 2 TOWs on his back and people are deluded in to thinking that guns are just bang and problem solved. I have never shot anyone and i hope i do not, but i know people who have and although you have this sort of resect, you still think better you than me m8.

In the DOW thread there was a report about a Marine sniper who went on a little jolly killing anyone who ventured into his crosshairs, how can someone have this much disrespect for human life, if we knew his childhood i doubt it would suprise us.

They do.But not all the time.Depends on what the suspect is wanted for.

What does a pack of fags mean ? In america that means something else. And has something to do with gay people. But it's funny how you say it.

i got my first gun when i was 4 years old. i also had toy guns to play around with my friends. You dont give kids enough creidt, i ALWAYS knew which was the real ones and which were the toys i could play with(and this is before they had to have that red tip on the end). I am GLAD i got my guns so early in life, people who try to restrict that make me sick. People who also blame guns as a problem that creates more violence are also stupid. It isnt the gun it is the shooter. I was told from the second i got my gun about gun safety, some people arent and that is a shame. i am not trying to act all high and mighty but if some kids had the same weapons training and safety lessons people like me and my friends had you wouldnt have to worry about this issue. as for the child soldiers i would think that anyone about the age of 16 is adult enough to enlist and carry a weapon IF THEY CHOOSE! i do not like the idea of forced soldiering for young people and the rape issue for girls makes me want to puke, i mean come on have at least a shred of honor here.

A pack of fags = a pack of cigarettes.

Uhh yeah, fags are cigarettes, sorry for the colloquial misunderstanding. That would be quite funny, a raid trying to arrest gay people.

Gay people get upset at that word. It's an mean saying to an gay person.Heck ,fags is probably ban on most forums with cussing rules.

Now question is why did smokes and homosexual people and up with samename ?  WAit ,i think i got it.Because gay people smoke man pipes, and people smoke cigarettes.

back on topic....

It's wrong to show kids how to kill people with guns.I mean I don't see a problem if their shooting targets or going go hunt for food. But when they use them for soldiers, now thats when it's wrong.

I think we all share the blame when it comes to learning form mistakes.

At any rate, I think parents should teach kids about guns whether they give them to them or not. In case they find one they'd know what to do. Maybe once they get older and mature enough they could go hunting or something, depends on the family.

But a kid shouldn't ever pick up a gun out of curiosity. They should immediately know "danger" and get an adult.

... but not a stranger, one of their parents. crazy.gif

And don't do drugs, drink your milk, stay in school, do your homework.

1) English has been around for much longer than American, hence "fag" for ciggies is acceptable tounge.gif

2) The German Neo-Nazi scene has about 50,000 members at the most, most of which are from East Germany anyway (rebel commies without a cause tounge.gif ). Hardly comparable to the 40 million from WW2, is it confused.gif

Pack of fags, I'm not British but somehow I can imagine a pack of fags is not a pack of gay people. wink.gif lol Stealing a pack of fags is rather odd isn't it.

ok, let me just be clear on this issue. although "fag" is defined as cigarette, it is also used and defined as the derogatory term meaning homosexuals. so using the word on this forum will constitute violation of 1.2

Thats a German Navy ensign. Notice there are no Swastikas on it, only the Iron Cross.

If thats a right wing group holding it up, they are pricks for carrying it, as it has no connections with Nazism in general. Why didn't they go and buy a nice big Third Reich flag eh?

Anyways,

There's nothing wrong with teaching kids how to use guns, when they use them they know what kind of damage they can do, and know what to do should they come upon one. Their curiousity would also be checked, if you tell a kid not to touch something because it is 'bad', what do you think they are going to do?

As it's been said, there is a difference between teaching your child to hunt animals and to handle guns safely; and teaching him/her to kill the Jewish infidels for the glorious cause of Allah. Give me a break Balschoiw.

It wasn't that long ago in Canada or the U.S. where schools used to have indoor shooting ranges (or take trips to them), kids would bring their .22's to school and shoot them with their teams, or just for practice. Those days are long gone. sad.gif

What lesson? They had a nutter in control, they took over almost all of Europe and then Hitler's fatal mistake was Operation Barabarossa while facing the Allies on numerous fronts mixed in with other things. But lot's of the German people did not really support the idea of cleansing, and lot's were oblivious. I'm pretty sure we all 'learned a lesson' when cities were bombed and a whole generation was wiped out.

Anyway colloquial variations of a language shouldn't be considered offensive when you know they are being used in a different context. It's like me saying there's lot's of dykes in Yorkshire. I could be using a slang and disparaging term for gay women or i could be talking about the extensive irrigation system of raised dirt channels that some farmers use.

If you define the context i don't think that anyone can consider it offensive and if they do they shouldn't do.

Well FS this is about children and guns. We do infact have the strictest law on nazi people and nazi propaganda, music, symbols, political parties, etc.

Do you have ?

Do you allow people to replay WW2 battles in uniforms, with accurate weapons and Nazi relics ?

Do you have a problem with racism ?

Are blacks "equal" in the US ?

Are islam people "equal" in the US since 911 ?

You better stay on topic FS and stop your well known FS attacks. They make no sense anyway. Pure FS as ever.

I´d be happy if people would realize that child killing child with a gun wouldn´t happen if the access to guns for minors would be more controlled. Columbine anyone ?

It wasn´t Marilyn Manson who made Columbine possible. It was the freedom to buy guns (even automatic) that made Columbine possible.

Parents have the responsibillity for their kids. Parent have to take care that violence is not the option in a conflict. Anyway this is hard to teach them if even the president of the US choses violence as the ultimate option to deal with other nations. All that wars and guns, bullets and false nationalism does influence your kids as it did in WW2. They see it as a principle of grown ups and adapt this way of thinking. So it´s not really surprising that kids use weapons in conflicts if available. The border between reality and fiction is a thin line for a child. We all know that. So it´s not really surprising that once this line is crossed or fiction mixes up with reality we have a gun incident.

Parents are responsible. Parents have to take care of that. Unfortunally sometimes the parents have a problem with reality also and project the fear they have in life towards their children. Fear is a bad teacher and fear turns to be dangerous if you have a gun.

well,....from my cold dead hands...

I'm not at all sure that it is so simple. Canada has just as many guns/capita as USA and they have only a fraction of the homicides and gun related crime.

It's a combination. Having guns in an organized, civilized society with little crime is no danger per se. Even if you armed every single person in the Vatican with assault rifles there would still be very little violence.

USA has a crime problem and a fear problem. Combine that with guns and you have a bad situation. I'm not sure why the situation is as it is - perhaps a combination of social segregation and history (extreme individualistic anarchist cowboy tendencies). The crime problem is not as big as the fear of crime. In a normal civilized society the state protects the citizens and they have no need to think about defending themselves. In USA on the other hand the reasoning seems to be "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by six" i.e shoot first, ask questions later. Kill or be killed. Then you have the recent developments since 11/9 where people are even more scared. Now they don't just have to defend themselves against their neighbour but also from an external threat.. so they buy more guns.

Hysterical people should not have guns. Simple as that.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. So true and so irrelevant. The pro-gun lobby usually makes a comment like "Why should law-abiding citizens be punished for the actions of criminals?"

The answer is very simple: You are not the only fucking person in the world. You see, you live in a society with other people. For this society to work people have to support public interests just as much as your individual interest. A person who cares about his country should ask himself:

"Is my personal enjoyment of having a gun worth the problems it creates in my country?"

The funny thing is that most of the time it's the same people that call themselves patriots and wave US flags etc that are unwilling to do any personal sacrifices for their country. That's just pathetic.

Fear has been instramentalized in the US. By media and the government. Fear is in fact one of the reasons why so many US people feel the need to defend themselves. Fear is the enemy not the guy living next door.
