Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted October 15, 2003 the drool prevented me from using my keybord for typing this, but it's clean again now; very great looking weapons and units. The only thing I think might need attention is the but- and backpack. These have kind of low quality textures compared to that great vest. You might alse try to get some more "clothing effects" on the BDU textures and some dirt perhaps. Modelled-on kneepads might also be a nice idea.
GoOB 0 Posted October 15, 2003 Yeah, some more dirt (especially on the recon units) And some "folded cloth" effects or something. What also would be cool is some sort of LRRP-ish fellow. With a big ruck (Operation Northstar Recce units show what I mean pretty good) But I asked you about that allready
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 16, 2003 OK, I'll take all of your suggestions into consideration. I've taken many new imagesa of both the Woodland and Desert Recon units. The Woodland Recon images can be found here, where as the Desert Recon units can be found here. Despite the names of the Woodland folder, the appearance probably wont be final, as I may or may not incorporate suggestions made on this thread. Post your opinions and feedback. EDIT: I plan to make all Desert Recon vests the same as the one worn by this unit as its colouration goes better with the rest of the uniform. Please Note not all units are pictured, there are several more included in the pack, but I just didn't have the time to make images for them.
ebud 18 Posted October 16, 2003 The only thing keeping me from using these guys in the past, and probably in the future would be the textures. The vests look pretty good, but there is such a huge difference in the style of the textures from the uniforms to the vests to the guns, etc. It just seems like a huge mish mash of artwork taken from a wide variety of sources and thrown together with no consideration as to how they all look when they they used in conjunction. Very hi res guns, good looking (but odd looking vests and armor), then combine them with the clothing textures (which seem too flat right now) and they all look odd togther. With a little work they would be great. Separately they all work, but I just think when they are combined they need to gel better style wise. Can't wait to see the final results though. ruff 102 Posted October 16, 2003 Dam i want those units i like the desert recon vest alot here's my constructive criticism which i hope u dont take offense: with the recon woodland are u gonna darken the shining bit of the vest? dont get me wrong the woodland vest look great, i love it but i reckon itd look better in black or grey (the shiny bit) the silver bit just too shinny and though this is a game i reckon it would stand out when in recon love the units and keep up the good work and pr
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 19, 2003 I'll take all your comments into consideration, but right now I'm just trying to get everything working so I can take images of them, and get them advertised (to keep up my PR ) Ebud: Yes, the textures are a little mis-matched and infact do come from several sources (all with permission where possible, and credited). I'll work on the dirt effect in the coming week as well as the creasing/wrinkling of the clothes. Anyway, with the exception of a sound bug on the M16A4s, they're now finished with 12 versions in all (6 silenced, and 6 non-silenced). The other weapons I have included are also nearing completion of the tweaks etc. I'd expect to have a PRIVATE BETA ready within the next two weeks lasting for as long as needed (most likely another 2-3 weeks). So depending on the outcome of the BETA, expect a release sometime after that. Possibly early December (intime for Christmas

Sxep 0 Posted October 19, 2003 Uhm jackal did you enhance the Gasmasks? Did everyone forget about them  and uhm jackal..i kinda not so like the desert sniper...because thats not very usefull in the deserts of OFP... you should make a Ghillie suit with the same colour as the deserts in OFP. Jinef 2 Posted October 19, 2003 Are these based on real world units? If so what? The reason i discarded the last version was LOD errors (not a big deal for most people but i despise them) and the lack of any real background to these guys so i didn't know what to do with them. Also the weapons if i remember correctly were deadly up to 7000 metres
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted October 19, 2003 Quote[/b] ]Uhm jackal did you enhance the Gasmasks? Did everyone forget about them It's hard to remember all the features in this addon But indeed; what have you done with the gasmasks?
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 19, 2003 OK, first of all, I've not done much of anything to the gasmasks as of yet. Secondly, the SRT units themselves are based on real-life SRT (Special Reaction Team) units, which are the U.S. Military's answer to a SWAT team, handling hostage situations etc on Military installations. Check out SpecialOperations.com for more information. The Desert/Woodland recon elements are not based on any particular unit or group. They are just a merging of many other units I've seen on various website and other addons. The reason the desert sniper looks the way it does is two-fold: a) it matches the other desert units b) different islands have different desert textures, Everon/Malden/Kolgujev and Desert Island are different to Nogova. Nogova is different to Tonal. Tonal is different to Trinity etc. I can't satisfy everyone. ...and good luck being able to see 7000m to hit anything Jinef. ruff 102 Posted October 20, 2003 jinef: wat do u mean 7000m? his srt 2 pack had problems engaging units no offense jackal i tested them on bis soldiers and had problems shooting at 230m even the sniper didnt engage at 300m so i dont know wat u mean by 7000m do u mean in rl or in game? u must be confusing these guys for the hk pack guys hu can shoot u a kilometre away his soldiers were pretty good though at 100m
Sgt. Stryker 0 Posted October 21, 2003 do you mean the Marine Corps FAST Company? They are the anti-terrisom type SWAT team for the USMC which = the best. http://www.specialoperations.com/USMC/FAST/default.html
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 21, 2003 No, I mean the SRT - Special Reaction Team: http://www.specialoperations.com/USMC/SRT/Default.htm. Very similar to each other, except FAST is just Marines, where as SRTs are Marine and Navy. Here is the background of the units, curtosy of SpecialOperations.com: Special Reaction Teams (SRT) In anticipation of possible terrorist attacks against US Marine Corps and Navy installations, many bases have formed Special Reaction Teams. Â They are similar in mission and composition to civilian SWAT teams, and respond to situations as varied as hostage rescue, counter-sniper actions, VIP protection, and counterterrorism. Â An example is given below. Combat Center Special Response Team (SRT) Combat Center's Special Response Team, responsible for counterterrorist and hostage rescue missions at 29 Palms Marine Base, also known as the Combat Center. Â They are commanded by the Combat Center's Provost Marshal's Office. Â The mission of the SRT is to provide the commanding general and the provost marshal with a credible response team for any major situation, such as a terrorist incident or a crisis situation. Â Should the military police be unable to resolve a situation, they can call on this unit, which provides a SWAT-like response capability. Â This particular unit is not a full-time unit, due to the small nature of the base, whereas on larger installations, such as Quantico, VA and Camp Pendleton, CA, the SRT units are full-time. Â The Combat Center's SRT has trained with the Los Angeles Police Department, Palm Springs Police Department, and the San Bernardino Special Weapons And Tactics team. Sgt. Stryker 0 Posted October 22, 2003 again that might be why FAST is the best, they consist of only the best. No offense to you navy boys out there, but its true. Also i see a very nice riot shield in that first pic
reconmercs 0 Posted October 22, 2003 lol...its always funny to see someone "buy" military branches hook, line and sinker...FAST is a security unit with tactical skills and who are u comparing them to in the navy..I hope not the TEAMs thas like apples and oranges and quite funny....
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 22, 2003 I'm not comparing them to anyone in the navy, just that SRTs seem to be part of both Marine/Navy bases, where as FAST only seem to work on Marine bases. This argument isn't important as SRTs and FAST are different anyway, so why even bring them up Stryker?
Sgt. Stryker 0 Posted October 23, 2003 sorry, I dunno, I'm just dumb like that, I was tired and grumpy so I HAD to post something mean to get it outta my system.
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 23, 2003 Riiiight. Â Anyway, I've taken some screenshots of a few of the SRT Units (the guys in olive drab uniforms, not the Desert/Woodland Recon units). I'll upload them tomorrow/later today depending on where you're from. Watch this space.

ruff 102 Posted October 24, 2003 LOOKIN GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! ur night entry team looks the best!
Sgt. Stryker 0 Posted October 24, 2003 omg man, those look spactacular. I'll drink to these guys, now if only they had a riot shield to hold with or wothout the shield they are still gonna be the best units of this type (SRT/SWAT/ what ever you want to call them). good job man, I'll beta test for you if ya need
Jackal326 1181 Posted October 24, 2003 Thanks for the offer, I'll see how it goes. The idea of a riot shiled is something I explored a long time ago, but it never came into practice. I had the model made, but it never looked right. That, and it wasn't bullet-proof.
One 0 Posted October 25, 2003 riot shields are not bullet proof.............but if you made a unit that had one, you could up the armor values a lil high for the effect......but getting it looking rite would be more important anyways
