Mister Frag 0 Posted August 18, 2003 Just a quick question: what advantage do PNGs have over JPEGs? Portable Network Graphics files (PNGs) have lossless image compression, whereas JPEG requires you to trade image quality for file size reduction. Some programs don't support the selection of the image quality when saving JPEGs (notably Internet Explorer when you right-click on an image), and always save at a fixed compression level. Why not just saving pics as jpg with 0% compression. I tryed, the png and jpg pics looked 100% the same, but the jpg pic was 30-40% smaller.
Mister Frag 0 Posted August 18, 2003 The host shouldn't care what the name of the file is, it's the client (the browser) that needs to support PNG files, and I don't know a modern browser that doesn't. As rare as PNGs are on the web, they are not new. They were born from the necessity to avoid the GIF and JPEG formats, both of which had owners, with Unisys actually wanting to enforce the GIF license. The domestic (US) patent on GIF has now run out, and the international patent is set to expire next year. PNG was created as a truly free alternative to these two, but it never really achieved the same widespread use.

lee_h._oswald 0 Posted August 18, 2003 whats gonna be additional apart from the use of alot of addons? I am not going to change the CTI concept, cause it´s fantastic as it is. It´s not just "a lot of addons". It´s the superb CTI with the best addons available. Thoose two "features" can be a lot of fun. We have it. MfG Lee
