I think the current situation shows how much the whole thing would have benifited from international backing. US frontline forces are very good at attacking but they are entirely inexperienced at peace keeping. This is the result of sending B-class forces on peace keeping missions.

The best move right now would be to move British units to Baghdad. They know peace keeping far better. This can be seen in Basra where the looting is more or less under control and the hospitals have water and electricity.

It's a very simple peace keeping mission. Normal peace keeping actions involve extremests from at least two sides that like shoot up each other and the peace keepers. Criminals, looters and general opportunists are easy to deal with since they are seldom willing to risk their lives for their cause (material gains).

They are however taking the first good steps now by recruiting (former) Iraqi policemen and military personell. It's not going to be very popular with the citizens of Baghdad, but it beats the hell out of anarchy.

But now back on topic. Here something I read in the german news network (was either www.n24.de or www.n-tv.de) . German analysts fear that the TBA plans to attack Syria preemtively too. This time the reason will be Syria giving aid to terrorists and fleeing Iraqi regime members. Well, these proofs and facts worked one time, so why shouldn`t work that another time on another country, right?

The nicest information given was that the TBA already has plans for an oil pipeline across Syria which will be one third shorter than a pipeline not on Syria`s ground.

I hope that won`t happen, I really do. But if the TBA forces into another war I hope it`ll get a severe buttkicking this time. Other countries should interfere the next time. But we`ll see what the future brings.

They managed to protect the building of the ministry of oil very well.

As I said before, the primary targets of looting are very obvious: banks and museums. You don't need many soldiers to protect a site from looters. They are taking the opportunity because you know nothing is going to happen to them. Once you show that things will happen to them, the looting stops. Peace keeping 101.

The national museum should have been number 1 priority due to its irreplacable priceless collections. All they had to do was to instruct the soldiers that idly stood by to stop them.

Besides, I don't know anyone on this forum that didn't hope for a quick end to the military campaign - with as small losses of civilians and military lives as possible. The fact is that it could very well have gone the other way - with lot's of casualties.

So you tell me what good has come out of this? Saddam is gone obviously - but many iraqi citisens wish for his return simply because he at least enforced law and order. Except from that he also cooperated with UN in order to provide the iraqi people with food, water and at least the medicine he was allowed to import. You on the other hand has brought war, death, destruction and anarchy to the streets of iraqs cities. You are also responsible for the lack of water supplies - something that was critical even before the war. You are also breaking the geneva-convention because of your lack of ability to provide safety for the occupied people.

Your biggest problem will be that you disappoint the iraqi people. They didn't ask for your "liberation" . I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few US soldiers will be sent back in bodybags as victims of terrorism.
