What military equipment do you think of

Recommended Posts

Reading all these posts about who has the better military, and what equipment different militaries have got me to thinking...  When you hear "Russian military" mentioned, what unit or equipment comes to mind?

So, I offer this.  Think of a country, and then the first unit or equipment that comes to mind and immediately write it down.  Just one (or two) per country.  It dosen't have to be current either.  Lets see what people think and try to keep this flame free.

Here goes mine...

Russia - SA-10 and Akula

France - Excocet

Germany - Panzer

North Korea - Mothership

Iraq - Republican Guard troop

U.K. - Destroyers and Harriers

Canada - CF-18s

China - F series airplanes

Iran - Boghammers and the ilk

Egypt - M1A1

Isreal - Apaches and Merkavas

South Africa - air to air missiles

Japan - Kongou class DDGs

Good point Placebo, I should have explained myself better, thanks!

You say unit but you mean equipment don't you? For example to me British unit would be SAS, British equipment would be Spitfire, etc. smile.gif

UK - SA80, Harrier, Saxon APC

US - HMMWV, Apache

Sweden - AK5 and that weird tracked APC

Finland - Sisu

Serbia - BTR 80

France - VBL

Germany - Fuchs, G36, MG42

Different unit stereotypes:

US - Doesn't go anywhere without body armour and an Apache. Friendly.

UK - Very small guys, professional, experience from Northern Ireland, hates their rifles. Hard to understand on radio.

France - Weird but does a good job.

UAE - Always freezing, lots of American equipment

Indian Special Police - Not even their own interpeters undestand what there guys says. Doesn't actually do anything but are good at hanging around. Have their own ways of dealing with riots "this is not a big riot, a million people is a big riot. We shoot 3 or 4, then the rest go home"

Carry elephant rifles and/or big sticks.

Italy - mostly harmless, haven't won a battle since the fall of the western roman empire  wink.gif Carabinery is good at clubbing down protestors though.

Heheheh. Yeah..in the wrong hands those are lethal weapons!

In Canada's defence, our version of the M16 rifle does seem to be a little more robust and better built. biggrin.gif

Makes you think that Blair hates us, eh?
