[WIP] Kihnu Island

Hello! For three months I've been working on a new Arma 3 terrain. This terrain is caled Kihnu, it's a real island located in the Baltic Sea.

The goal is to create 1:1 terrain with a very high level of details, so it may take some time. Aslo, I'm not professional graphic artist, consequently making this island

I need to learn new things and I must sort out some issues. At the end I'd like to show you what I've done so far (WiP) - http://imgur.com/gallery/zRQ12

Wow, from the screenshots it looks like this will be a great map. I am always attracted to these Eastern European maps. Good luck with the project!

Probably yes, I was not doing things that make problems with the standard versions of Arma 1 / 2 objects. Currently, this terrain is based on AiA in 90%, but if CUP_ Terrains will be released, first thing I'm do is download it, and make my map fully compatible.

Hey! The map looks really good for!

But keep the AI and the overall gameplay in mind, those dense forests (beneath the streets) will be very hard for the players to fight against KI. Also the framerate may drop in this area (depending on how dense it really is, maybe i'm wrong :D )

Also, are you in the skype Map Maker channel? Could be worth joining it for many, many, many tips!

As to the behavior of the AI you are absolutely right, but I think it also depends on the difficulty level settings. 

So, it can be somehow adjust. As regards to optimizing then I am supersensitive about that :P

Currently, I have made about 1km2 (excluding the coast and interior forests) and on default settings in which I play every day it's run very well, although, 

I do not know how it will be in the future when the number of objects will increase ;/

Reminds me a lot of Orshanets the Ukrainan map.. IMO the best grass for Arma 3 so good choice!

There is a similarity. But I'm going to do something original, also when it comes to details I chose other objects - I will not elaborate on that, I just try to post soon an alpha version, so everyone will see exactly how it looks :)

Hello! 

 

I have some new information about alpha release (and screenshots of course). So the area that will be available in the first alpha version will be have size 2,5km2 - in the photo below is marked in red.

Before the release this area still I need to do two things. Firstly, I have to make the interior of the forest - it will not be difficult, although modeling of the land may take some time. Secondly, I have to make the coast, and here is the problem because I do not have ground texture and a set of objects with which I will gonna use, so it can take longer. In conclusion I think the first alpha version will be released until mid-september. And at the end of a few screenshots  :)

Looking great, man! If only AI pathfinding was more considerate to navigate such lush environments ;) Maybe BIS will address this with the expansion.

 

Some very tense PVP matches could be possible on this map and that's a welcome.

If you don't mind me asking - what does your clutter config look like - as in what plant models and at what frequencies?

 

I can never quite seem to get the kind of density in my clutter.

Yes I'm still working on it, but some unexpected circumstances related with my private life caused delays, so in this time I can't release alpha version:(

In any case, these delays are not related to "technical problems", so sooner or later it will be done  :)
