Pete's Re-Textures (EUROFORCE, CSAT Snow Tigers)

Started work on the snow police / guerilla faction. Got the police infantry prototyped, using (in 2037) outdated gear like M4s, MP5s and Saiga shotguns. Apart from special troops iron sights only and no NVGs or other fancy attachments; not even AT aside from demo charges. For protection, they just use the MICH helmets and tactical / plain vests. Had to use the journalist vest as basis because the AAF vests seem to have no hidden selections. Made some other headgear as well - it's just copypasting textures once you've created the templates. Turned out good so far, not sure if I'll keep the German "Polizei" or change it to English at some point. Also, the car is most likely to change.

Not sure if I should release them alongside with EUROFORCE and repurpose this thread to a more generic "My Addons" thread. What do you think, given that this new mod will most likely rely on Toadie's weapon packs? (Also kudos to him, there's some splendid stuff in his packs!) Should I integrate all my mods into one folder / download (different PBOs of course)?

Take it slow man..I don"t even had time to test the Euroforces properly yet :D. Releasing all units (mods) modular but using the same folder structure seems the best solution for me, I would prefer all addons being discussed in the same thread though

Me personnaly would prefere a new thread. It could be a bit chaotic, when you give informations about two mods.

I basically just made a config for textures I had already. :D

I also thought of a solution like toadie's thread, where he also separates downloads but maintains the same folder structure. That's probably the best idea. I don't think these addons generate enough user interest that they're worth to be released in different threads. Plus it's more time consuming work for me to maintain these threads. Also, these are meant to work together as the guerillas will use partly salvaged tanks (most likely MBTs) from EUROFORCE and CSAT. We'll see, it'll take some time to develop these units first. I mainly just need a thread to annoy users with pictures of my work every other day. :D

Made a very quick prototype for a possible CSAT snow camo. A bit inspired by tiger stripe patterns. What do you think?

Tiger stripes are cool...will this be Iranian CSAT or do you plan to make this a Chinese unit this time ?

Hm, I don't know yet. Maybe another combined unit with Asian, Iranian and some Russian troops? I can't stand the fact that there are only three different faces for CSAT. Every second soldier looks the same. xX

With the new garage (will come with the marksmen dlc) in the dev you can create an offroader with a working lightbar. Maybe you could create a light patrol vehicle for the MPs or a vehicle for the paramedics. Also it could be useable for your second project.

I know the model. It's actually the one from the civilian / FIA tech support vehicle. Only thing I'm unhappy with is that stuff on the loading area. Or are you able to add the lights sperately without altering anything else?

But I've been thinking the same thing. The Offroad is rather easy to re-tex but I'm not sure about the colours yet. Also not sure if the MP will get them; I more thought of creating versions for the guerilla faction. Then again, once I got the template sorted out it's just copypasting textures and configs.^^

I've only had DevBranch active for like 30 minutes a few days ago to test the new guns. Pretty nice, apart from the sounds of some of them. I hope they'll update Arma 3 Tools with PSD templates like they did for the heli DLC so I can make snow / custom versions from them.

I activated it also to test the new weapons and I think they did a good job. Then I found this very useable garage with offers you many options for different vehicles.

To your question: It is possible to add the lightbar without the stuff at the loading area. You can also hide doors, glasses and other stuff.

Ah, that's pretty neat, thanks! I'll fiddle around with it once it hits stable. I wonder how they did it with the models. Or maybe it's just script commands. Anyway, that opens much room for cool police / EMT stuff.

Also did some more prototyping on the CSAT camo. Tried to pixelise the tiger stripes in different sizes. Also lightened the dirt colour a bit. I'm not sure, I find it looks a bit like (unintentional) dirt (shit! :D) on the uniform - but that's what digital patterns do, right? They look uninterpretable from a certain distance to mask the wearer. Still, one can only guess it's supposed to be pixelated and only on a closer look. Maybe I'll try a different approach sometime, bigger pixels like the AAF camo maybe. Hm, below are comparisons, left old, middle digi small stripes, right digi big stripes.

And I did a prototype for a UN Hunter a while back. Haven't tried it until now. The dirt patterns are a bit off and it needs more damage in my opinion. Supposed to be a quite old and pretty fucked up vehicle. Not sure where I can use it yet.^^

Had a window to start some serious work on the guerillas. Made dozens of different uniforms, vests and headgear using several existing camos. At the moment my "main" camos are German Flecktarn, US Woodland, MARPAT, Swedish M90, some Russian patterns (for example Kamyshovyy in urban and woodland) and a fancy red-snow-whatever camo (not sure if it makes any sense but it looks fabulous :D). These are supported by some more exotic / outdated stuff like German Wehrmacht Splinter, SS Erbsenmuster, Bundeswehr Snow, some Finnish snow thingy (I guess) and Vietnamese Tiger Stripes (not really woodland though). All mixed in various combinations of pants, pullovers, jackets, vests, headgear etc. Currently just prototypes, I'm still evaluating what makes sense and what not. But it should end up in a nice diverse and colourful guerilla faction. Some representing pics of the prototypes:

They look beautiful!

One question: The pictures show some AKs and stuff like that, will there be a dependence for this mod? That would be really sad, since my clan wants to keep the mod count as small as possible!

Yes, sadly there will be most likely dependencies to Toadie's packs. However, that would only affect the Guerilla, not the EF troops. (Seperate PBOs.) Arma's vanilla weapons don't cover what I want. The stock FIA arsenal is even with Marksmen content pretty lame.

Hm, could think of a scripted solution though - like I used for the M.E.R.C.S. shop system. Means when pre-defined mods are active on a machine a script on init will replace the weapons for each Guerilla unit. So if the mod is running the insurgents will have mod weapons and if it's not running they'll use stock ones (Tar-21s and that other boring bullpup stuff^^). A lot of work to create separate configs mapping mod on stock gear. And still problematic if multiple players in MP run different mod configurations. I might be able to prototype such thing, just as case study, we'll see. With Marksmen incoming I hopefully have new assets to play with (that cool new vest for example).

Don't understand me wrong. I don't criticise you for take that "step". I just dislike that it has to be done in the first place. Not having an AK ingame is just....stupid.

The problem is just, every additional weapon means, having to download a new mod. For me that is not a problem, but for some reason some people have a problem with that! -,-

Totally seeing your point. If I had the knowledge to properly model, config, texture and create proper sounds I'd make it by myself.^^ But I'm fully occupied with amateur texturing as it is. (BTW, kudos to all modders out there who actually create stuff from scratch.)

Well, I do like Arma's stock guns, yet I'm a bit fed up with them. After spending months of developing for MANW only using stock assets I'm really thrilled to mess around with all the great mod stuff that has been developed in the meantime. And for me shifting the setting towards snow/woodland (keep in mind that these addons are created for the sole purpose of fitting my next planned SP project) requires fresh, new stuff - or at least re-combinations of existing things. I'll try to prototype such system as stated above - or even create a copy of the mod using stock weapons. Should be a rather simple find & replace task once the Guerillas are done.

And the CSAT snow re-texture will most likely work on stock assets.

Reworked snow backpacks and the insurgent's first police vehicle texture. And I finally had the time to deploy them into their target terrain. See how Helvantis locals and police forces try to hold off an EUROFORCE detachement. :)

wow this mod is awesome, are you planning on using the Navid (MG5 or HK 121) as the EU MMG?.because it fits really well.

Thanks, I'm running stable at the moment so I still have to wait until Marksmen is released. But I went on devbranch a few days ago to check out the new guns. Pretty cool stuff, I'll certainly see where I can use them. And hopefully, BI will define hidden selections and publish the PSDs so I can make snow versions from them. Expect and update somewhen past Marksmen!! ;)

Got some new shots of the Snow Tigers. Now with a few new tactical vests in Tiger Stripe and Snow Hex camo schemes plus different backpacks. Also got the insignia ready, all thanks to Kydoimos. Plus I've prototyped a red hex scheme for the Neophron. Beware of the Iranian Simurgh Squadron! ;)
