A noobish question...

Suppodsely, Harrier has VTOL take off? I'm correct? If so, how is it done?

AWWW YEAH!!!

Marina Militare!!!

It does VTOL only without any payload (which is also true fr the F-35, despite popular belief).

For the sake of simplicity and realism it operates only in STOVL mode.

Inspiration:

There is a problem with the release though, that we may update in the next release; the SMDI and NOHQ maps are old. - that means that the old BiS graphics will still shine through.

I would suggest getting rid of the BiS textures alltogether and make place for two UMSC ones, a Italian one, a Spanish one and three versions of the GR.9. Get ready for a texture overload.

I will consider taking requests!

Hi! This is really coming along awesome! Is it possible in the future any modification of the radome? It is not really an issue but since ArmA 2 the av-8b seems to me to have a "weird nose".. Moreover, this modification would add some variation that fits british harriers and the night attack version with flir (already brought in arma 2 by F2F_bosshog http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?133654-F2F-AV-8B-Harrier-II-Plus-AV8B-Night-Attack-Addon )

..Anyway the progress from the arma 2 harrier is tremendous! Great work, and very much needed!

I'm not sure i understood, do you mean the 3D model is weird? Or the textures are missing something? Or you mean some functional issues?

He's probably referring to the more stub nose of the AV-8B+ - and the addition of FLIR stubs on the GR.7/9 version.

Another thing - I suggest you do allow VTOL - as during realistic approaches on an LHD, the plane lacks the power to remain even in a hover next to the ship (often resulting in crashes, even when disabling autohover -due to the low speed). I know that allows unrealistic VTO with full battle loads, but that is something I should leave up to players. The inability to properly do an approach is more annoying than the potential unrealistic vertical take-offs. But that's my view.

Secondly, we really should get a proper targeting possibilty. A camera or GPS guidance would be great - like the systems used by Saul and J Spartan on their F-18s.. Maybe we can ask them for help. That way, this add-on is not just nice, but becomes a true asset for the realism gaming community..

And finally; the factory is up to speed now;

I'm referring to the 3d model! But maybe it's all in my head :)

of course the pictures are taken from different angles, but still it seems to me that the ArmA 2 3d model has a longer and thinner nose

Good job you did there!

Anyway i want to let this mod rest for now, gather some feedback, see if there are any relevant problems then go back to it in a couple months.

I already have a few ideas but i want to do other stuff as well (see: https://twitter.com/ChairborneIT/status/561835854805479428 ).

The GPS guidance system has been on the to-do list for a while but i have no idea where to start.

I'll get in touch with Saul and John_Spartan for the next release.

I was also thinking about some proper FLIR because the current picture-in-picture has so little details it's unusable unless you literally fly into something (but that really isn't on my end, arma allows only so much detail in PiP).

I did a little experiment but that didn't end well, sadly.

You are right. The model still is not true to real life proportions, but Chairborne might be able to fix that in a later version.

Hey Chairborne, have you given up changing the HUD to use Buzzard symbology (which is close to real british Harrier HUD) or GeraldoBolso´s HUD?

cheers

I just haven't come around to do that yet.

Which HUD do you refer to?

For the PIP limitations could you do what other mods do and attach essentially a UAV camera on the bottom?

I want to check if the engine doesn't have something already built in it for this sort of problem first.

Oh sorry, I recall GeraldoBolso helping you out on the first pages of this thread but he hasn´t created a HUD template for you (he did for Firewill´s F-16C), but I guess if you PM him he may help you out... or as I´ve suggested, just use the Buzzard HUD, cus it is quite close to british HUD symbology! =)

I´m refering to this symbology - http://feedback.arma3.com/file_download.php?file_id=7122&type=bug (1440 kB)

cheers!

There are both GR7 and GR9 in the mod.

You can find them under NATO > Great Britain > Air

I see.

Anyway i haven't forgotten, i really haven't come around to do that yet.

I still have it in my to-do list with a couple other things, i just like to change project from time to time to keep it interesting. :)

I think that's just the normal Harrier HUD though, i don't think the American one differs.

When the time comes i'll see what works best.

I found them, but seem they're not zeus compatible so I can't find them in zeus and mcc...would you make it zeus and mcc compatible?

Hmm that is weird, they are listed where they should be inside the config.

Are you sure you set Zeus up properly?

No clue about how MCC works.

Does it happen with the british harriers only or with both?

Just confirmed that can find USMC AV-8 in the zeus but can't find in MCC.RAF GR7 and GR9 can't find in zeus and MCC neither.

I'm going to make a dumb question, are you sure you updated the mod correctly or misplaced some files?

I'll look into it anyway.
