R. Brown 10 Posted August 27, 2013 Ok so this is kind of a WIP and kind of asking for help new to modeling as well as modding.... BUT this is one thing that i really wanted in a3, and as i didn't see that anyone was working on one i thought that i would try my hand. It is proving to be a difficult road. As you can see i started with no reference pictures as in cross sections. I have been going off of what i can find. So here is my first attempt at it. Please don't laugh lol. tholozor 18 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Nice, outstanding to see someone finally tackle the Mk V. As a starting point, it's not bad, the beam looks way short compared to the length. As it is right now, it looks like a racing boat. There's some actual dimensions listed here, as well as some internal shots of the control seats and passenger seating: http://navysealmuseum.com/home-to-artifacts-from-the-secret-world-of-naval-special-warfare/exhibit-mark-v-special-operations-craft-soc/ These images might provide useful as well regarding the overall shape and some details: http://www.factorydirectmodels.com/ships/GM9-1004.html Hope that helps at all, can't wait to see where this goes! EDIT: Found this forum thread with a few handfuls of photos from multiple angles, including pictures of the front console. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?119217-Mark-V-SOC-walkaround And this picture showing the dual jet drives off the stern: https://www.maineboats.com/files/u2/hodgdon02.jpg There's a model on TurboSquid that is pretty close to the real thing, you could possibly use some of those pictures as a reference too (unless you want to pay $200 for the model): http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/mk-v-special-3d-model/497571 Edited August 28, 2013 by Tholozor

Kumeda 6 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) Wow you realy choose a big projekt there especially if your new to moddeling! I can kind of feel with you as i also started some modeling for my WIP project that this will take some time. Im using Blender and realy like that programm also its kind of hard to get into it. If you want to bring in your model as ingame object I realy would suggest to get some info about limitations and needs for Arma, after that get your resources and try to make a sketch of it for side front top bottom and backview in your case. Only than i would suggest starting with moddeling because everything else will be harder on you later. For example if you make a to detailed model. This could be also a problem with that thing on turbosquid. So i would suggest not to waste mony on it if your not 100% you can use it actually in arma3 and its not just some fancy looking high poly model! (well 150k faces sounds ok, but might be still to much?) Also dont be afraid if your model doesnt turn out exactly like the real thing, i believe the most important part is to get the proportions looking good and in the end any cool boat will be much apriciated ;) For the modeling in Blender use the modifiers.. that was my lesson i learnt. Very handy is the subdivision in combination with edge spilt modifier and of course the mirror modifier! I can tell from the picture you posted that there seems to be a problem with the symetric line as ther is a gab visible. This should not happen if your vertices are aligned with the axis. Good luck Edited August 29, 2013 by Kumeda

R. Brown 10 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) Ok come a long way and made a ton of progress Completely scraped the first project . Been tweaking for the last few weeks and now we are porting into game. Have had a lot of help from 7CMBG on this project. Moding is complete for the time being (still things i want to add/fix/update/ I.e. Gauges and GPS not to mention PIP camera as well as a controllable searchlight). Now all to CFG's are going in. Trial and error for the most part (which is why SpectreRSG is doing it and not me). Edited September 25, 2013 by R. Brown

When I ported it over using all Arma 3 configs (I used the armed boat class) the ship would sink to the bottom of the ocean. But if I were to put it on land it would stay. I haven't been able to figure out what I'm doing wrong on my config. BUT When I use my Arma2 mod folder, the ship works perfectly fine, it can move, the water effects and everything else works. lastly, that's a nice looking ship. Good luck on the config part, you discover a lot of things when you do trial and error (I know I have).

chortles 263 Posted November 8, 2013 Admittedly what I'm hoping for more than anything -- based on what I've read of the MK V's capabilities -- is support for CRRC launch and recovery, but that may require the newly announced Oxygen for Arma 3...
spectrersg 9 Posted November 8, 2013 There will be CRRC recovery/launch options. Yes were waiting for the new tools and we're recovering from some dataloss... slowly.

chortles 263 Posted March 2, 2014 Please don't make such posts, they only give false hope for others who had been hoping for an update; you could instead try contacting the OP or SpectreRSG privately and seeing what comes of it.
