minarix 10 Posted July 4, 2013 Due to the lack of smaller caliber rifles, and being a huge m40 fan, and owning a replica myself, just wondering how hard it would be to get it made from start to scratch, and if its worth doing, not really looking to release to get known in the modding game or anything like that, just a gun i want for myself, and tired of all these .50cals etc. So basicly how hard is it to mod a new weapon to the game? and is it doable with 0 past modding/scripting experience. sgt_Savage2003 10 Posted July 5, 2013 First of welcome . Youtube is your friend, there are tons of modding tutorials out there . First what will you be using to make the models ( O2, 3dmax, Auto cad...). 2nd download the Free BI modding tools. 3rd Keep asking for help. there are tons of people out there that will point you in the right direction. For now I would stick to the free programs, Like O2 And Blender. Plus The Bi tools have every thing you need to bring your mods in to the game, One thing I would do is get a hold of a copy of Photoshop to do textures. Good Luck
germ 10 Posted July 5, 2013 How do you know you're a huge fan of the rifle if you'v enever even handled it. From video games and airsoft? It's not the same, and not a accurate way to judge a firearm.
NZXSHADOWS 0 Posted July 5, 2013 I think that would be a great project for someone with 0% experience. Just guessing it may take anywhere from 1 to 6 months. Depending on how much time you invest into this project. Either way Good Luck with it.

Whyte_Out 10 Posted July 5, 2013 lol, well I mod every single day and must say its very time consuming and quite difficult if you have 0 exp. with it. But on the bright side its well worth it once you have a mod in game working. Making a weapon is one thing, making Optics is another, getting it in game another ball field. It took me awhile to get the drift of things and I am still not that great. You must have a lot of motivation or else you will just give up. yes, its very doable with no exp. but will take a lot longer due to learning the modelling programs, than once you have your weapon and optics you need to start learning scripting. There are a ton of people on here willing to help out. Wish you the best, if I see your posts I will try to help out. First things first, download a program and start learning the controls of the program. Than always remember to keep your poly count low as possible.
TFM_Callas 1 Posted July 5, 2013 Imagine taking a job as an aircraft master mechanic, with zero experience of how an aircraft works, or any of the science behind it, or even how the tools of the trade work. That is what it is like.

chops 111 Posted July 6, 2013 minarix I'd say go for it. It'll be a bit harder than you expect, but far more rewarding. I have only ever used Blender for 3D modeling. There's a whole internet full of excellent tutorials and guides to get you started. It's a little daunting at first, but for the price (free), Blender wins hands down, I reckon. As a novice modeller myself, I found the actual modelling part the most enjoyable bit of getting a model in game. The config writing and all the other admin-type guff to get the thing in game is more taxing and will test your motivation. Once I'd learned the basics, the first thing I attempted to model was an M40 too. It's a good idea to start with a model of something you're passionate about. It will help you to push through the "how the fuck do I..." moments :D People here are usually very willing to help out, having been in your position themselves at some point. tomclothier 1 Posted July 6, 2013 You can get 3ds max for free if your a student. As far as I'm aware its a very professional piece of kit and its the easiest in terms of getting the mods between to Oxygen 2 and back. Also the templates are in .3ds format as well so that helps. Good luck!

Every software out there exports a wide range of industry standard file formats, including .3ds and .obj.

scarecrow398 43 Posted July 7, 2013 make that 4300 EU /5500 USD. One of the reason i am stuck with 2012 ;) Don't they offer an discount for upgrading like Adobe? it was only $60 for me to go from CS5 to CS6 for photoshop.
jagheterjan 10 Posted July 7, 2013 You can get an upgrade license at about 50% of the full price or a Subscription contract which will set you back about 650 quid a year. This, or you buy a 2nd hand license off someone who got bent over by AD one too many times.
PuFu 4600 Posted July 7, 2013 i can't get a 50% deal for quite some time, and i am not on subscription anymore since 2012. i can get it for 3500eus as an upgrade from my local autodesk retailer. not really worth the upgrade from 2012 to 2014 if you ask me, not for that amount of money anyways..
