Scorpion for having a crack at porting to A3.

thanks mate and welcome!

Just to keep the record straight, I already ported it to A3 and scorp has helped to show me how to fix some broken code in our mission.

what i'm tryingto figure out at the moment is how to get my multi-faction units working across both games - it's possible, and works in SP, but i'm having a few probs with it in MP atm. I just need a clear week to crack it, but unsung mod work keeps dragging me away.

hoping to do this soon.

Hello, I have very much enjoyed evo for arma 1 in sahrani back in the day and hope to relive these great memories again with the new and improved A3 engine.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone in the know could answer a few questions...

1. What is the main difference between vanilla evo and GITS evo and which was first?

2. Who originally created the whole EVO concept was it a GITS thing or did it precede it?

3. Will the the A3 version be like the original one where you would take the towns in sequence like a real invasion and even if one was not yet completed you would still find the next to be alive with enemy if you accidentally found yourself in the next town? (I really liked this aspect and as long as you had a decent setup you didnt get any lag..)

4. Are there plans to recreate the old school experience complete with the upcoming Sahrani island?

hiya

A brief history of Evo

1. kiljoy made the evolution mission for arma1, then a few people adapted it but didn't release it at kiljoys request.

2. later on kiljoy left arma community never to return, sadly.

3. then hohei evo was released for A1 but still not widely hosted as people though kiljoy might return

4. GITS developed our adpated version of kiljoy mission in A1 with new side missions, improvements to ammo crates and support scripts, new menus and sounds

5. BIS started development of an Evo for Arma2 but abandoned it but left it in the game i think.

6. Razor, Psychobastard and GITS all made versions of Evo for Erma 2 - helping each other with different developments and borrowing each others' stuff from time to time. PsB had made his version with lots of FSM's in it. GITS' versions ran to 35 missions - ported to many islands and with many mods (including for sahrani on A2)

7. after discussion with foxhound, we were allowed to release Evo for Arma 2 on armaholic, as many attempts to contact kiljoy came to nothing.

8. GITS released evo for arma 3, but have held over developing it as we're finishing a universal version that should work in both A2 and A3 on many islands and with many mods. our mission released for A3 had been rewritten significantly, with new menus, icons, sounds, music, side missions, extra dimensions to the primary gameplay etc. it's a world away from kiljoy's original, but retains the original concept - conquer the island one town at a time, or slope off and do side missions.

9. lastly, yes we are goingto be bringing out an updated version in A3, but our guys are tied up at the moment - some with domi, and some with unsung vietnam mod - due out with 5 new evo missions in Jan 2014.

After EU release of ArmA1(TY again Sickboy :D for German copy), Evolution was widely popular an added life to ArmA1 b4 Domination came out an way(maybe a yr) b4 Warfare was released by BI. I've seen so many incarnations of it since than an occasionally re-install ArmA1 for Evolution. Though (offtopic) it did have competition with RTS4-5 which is another mission I miss from ArmA1 days by Karrilion....ahhh the memories. Thats why I hope(sry off topic) we see Sahrani supported as kinda 3rd party redeveloped by the community for ArmA3 expecially for Evolution. Sadly (I hope I'm wrong here) I have my doubts we'll see the scale of fights an re-inforcements/ enemy air etc on Altis like we did on Sahrani an Chenarus due to the scale of Altis.

the "original" evolution with the cities spawning when you triggered them caused server crash when dumb-ass public players joined as pilots and flew over the north island and got shot down and triggered the zones. the group count maxed when 3 zones were activated. i wouldn't ever recommend going back to this model of mission design.

for dynamism we have plans to develop it like this (lots done already):

1. 11 zones to capture in sequence (not random as this causes a lot of confusion and is hard to code well)

2. 20+ randomised side missions you can do with your buddies in remote unexplored parts of map - over 30 new locations used randomly

3. at intervals enemies spawn and attack your main base and your comms array on nearby hill - if this is taken down you lose support radio

4. enemy airfield spawns periodically - you need to sabotage it to reduce enemy aircraft spawn time

5. enemy boat and land patrols randomly spawn and cruise around looking for trouble

6. POW captures must be returned to POW camp, meaning you may run into any of the above

7. also planning on introducing IED areas with mortar/sniper/ambushes - engineers need to clear them with cover from buddies - was planning to use tankys IED detector for that

this is as far as we have got with the design and it pretty much works. additionally tanky and champy have written loads of new side missions for GITS domi which we can possibly learn/borrow from in time.

Ah keep up the good work Eggbeast will get there like I said I hope i'm wrong about Altis an Evo. An yes I hated to do it but had to kick many players for goin into unactivated cities b4 the main and am glad the current city spawn is as is as it would be a nitemare on Altis or any other map for that matter.

I hear ya regarding the public players causing havoc with the spawning towns but man I remember some epic battles where it was only 2 towns triggered and it was pretty fun and interesting that way, but I am sure there were a lot of factors not the least of which was the island of Sahrani ripe for the plunder including hidden empty T72's:p

Evolution Red siting on the hill above Bangango just me an a farp/ammo truck an my trusty BRDM ATGM laying waste to armor an incoming reinforcments :D Til the AH1's show up:D or EVOlution Blue sneaking the mhg into the church area in Paraiso an being eveyones hero. Can't wait to see it all played out on Altis with all the new toys etc etc of ArmA3.

Nice Eggbeast, I'm currently re-installing ArmA2&OA for the Iron Front mod an a buddy(Dukenukem) keeps telling me to get the unsung from ArmA2Gits Evolution that uses it so thanx again We'll finally check it out.

Funny, i did exactly the same Bigshot, forgot how much fun ArmA1 is, i'm currently playing the CSLA mod! ;)

That's the spirit eggbeast, ArmA2 is still the way to go, well for me at least, not that struck on ArmA3. I play but don't like it much, it's growing on me very very very slowly! Oh and a happy new year mate, when it arrives that is! ;)

You need to get into all the lovely mods for Arma3 law-giver (JSRS, Blastcore, bCombat, ALiVE to mention a few amazing changes) ... you won't go back then.

I'm getting there mate, i've been playing the game since back in the OFP days, but ArmA3 doesn't convince me as much. I've got the addons but i still find that ArmA2 OA BAF, etc etc keeps me playing that instead. I guess it's because it's set in 2035 and being a stubborn 44 year old who's stuck in the pre 2013 era it's gonna take a while to convince me to part company with ArmA2. I'll get there eventually, say in 2035! ;)

I'm getting missing mod file errors when anyone tries to join, any ideas what could cause this?

I think you are using the old version. They are still working on the new one, it's not been relased yet..
