Rifle Collision Addon

Recommended Posts

I see what you mean by now as smooth, there is still a subtle pause between switching that is not found in the Arma 2 mod.

keep it up though... this is really something that should be present by default.

I was surprised that Arma 3 didn't have this by default, hopefully it gets added eventually. This mod will do perfectly for now though.

Hi Norrin

I've updated to version 0.2 but after a set time i get the weapon stuck in the lowered position. The only way to get out is by changing weapon. ;)

hello norrin , v0.2 is still a lil glitchy. I get alot of fluttering (rifle lowering and raising) when close to an object.. Walls, bushes, rocks.. instead of my rifle staying lowered, my character would raise and lower it over and over again , and I cannot move much at all when this is going on.. the character takes tiny half steps until I back enough away from the object to disengage the rc.

Yep noted and I've been working on the following fixes:

*Firstly I've worked out a neat way to prevent trees and bushes from causing the player to lower his weapon.

* You'll notice that when the player lowers his weapon the position of his head changes and thus his eye-position. The scripts work on obstruction of the players view based on eye position so by adjusting the view check to be in line with the rifle, which doesn't seem to change rather than the head, it reduces this glitching/fluttering quite significantly.

* Trying to streamline the animations even further to make the transitions even smoother.

* Add a check for weapon length.

I'm away for the next couple of days but should have an update for you early next week.

Great, I will definitely grab this as soon as I come home...

One question though: what happens if I lean over a wall angle? Will my weapon stay lowered, or will I be able to shoot?

Yay!

See the first post for download link. Once again this new version represents a significant improvement over previous versions!

Version 0.3 Fixes:

* Fixed transition from standing to kneeling while the weapon is lowered.

* Cleaned up the config.cpp.

* Speeded up transitions between weapon raised and weapon lowered.

* Weapons are no longer lowered by trees or bushes

* Added weapon length variable based on weapon class i.e. the shorter the weapon the closer you can get to an object before your weapon is lowered.

* Offset obstruction line-of-sight to be in line with the player's rifle rather than their eye position.

* Greatly reduced the likelihood of glitching.

Great work!

Is a feauture to autoraise your weapon when leaning around an angle in program?

Yay!

Hello, I like the idea but would you consider doing a "muzzle up" version which would be more realistic for SOF units like the SEALs, DEVGRU, DELTA etc... ? (check the movie Act of Valor during CQB sequences to see what I mean by that)

Thanks for your addon man! Keep up (if I may say lol) the good work! ^^

I'm pretty sure that film isn't realistic in that sense, you keep your muzzle pointed down in CQB, not up: it's cumbersome and inefficient...

Yay!

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong: it seems like both options are viable: it simply depends on the unit (NAVY Seals are the ones that use muzzle up, mainly)...

If you practice both options in CQB, you will realize "muzzle up" is better in terms of speed and economy of muscle movements! You simply have to rotate the barrel a few degrees upward and let the stock fall under your pit arms instead of bringing the whole thing downward for nearly 90°. When you shoulder your weapon again, you will also gain a few milliseconds and get better weapon control.

PS: Act of Valor is not really a movie because it only shows real operators moving/shooting and alot of the action scenes were filmed using real bullets. So it is far from any other "crappy hollywood action film"

Please see the initial post for the update.

Don't forget if you use the aim key (default: right mouse button) the obstruction scripts are over-ridden and you will not be forced to lower your weapon when moving against an obstructing object.

Version 0.4 Fixes:

* If you now lean out from cover while the weapon is lowered and your rifle clears the obstruction then you will auto-raise your weapon.

@Foxhound - as always thanks for the mirrors, sorry the updates keep coming so quickly.

@Coolspy - sorry but the weapon raised option is unlikely to happen as it will take some time to generate the new animations and with the way ArmA3 works the custom lowered animations integrate into the default idle animations.

@ArmASalt3 - I don't have any problems going up and down stairs with the latest versions - if you run into problems just lift your avatar's chin up a bit and you should be fine.

@Gliptal - your wish is my command :) See version 0.4 fixes.

Same thing happens to me, at some windows, and other kinda low objects.

See first post for download.

Fixes v0.5

* Corrected bug that occurred when identifying some obstructing objects, for instance temporary hangers etc will now correctly cause the player to auto lower his rifle.

* Narrow objects, less that 5 cm wide no longer cause you to auto lower your rifle - fixes twitching when strafing along iron fences etc.

* Refined height definitions - fixes bug identified by Byrgesen with small barracks and Hesco barriers etc.

@Byrgesen - I'm assuming you had problems with the Military Cargo HQ v1 at Air Station Mike-26.

@Sickboy - Thanks for the mirrors on SIX mate :)
