Codemasters have wronged bis!

Recommended Posts

First of all, I would like to clearify that this post is not about the OFPR release delays in the USA or any other non-European countries....

BIS has without any doubt made the best game EVER.  They have continously shown their loyalty and ambition for the game by listening to fans, constantly fixing bugs, creating new improved addons that keeps OFP feeling fresh and new.  A year after it's release, and it is still the best game I've ever played, and I keep playing it on a regular basis.

My question to Codemasters is this: Why the fuck does the entire United States gaming community, with a small exception, have no idea what OFP or OFPR is? Codemasters have been sitting on a gold mine, and yet they have utterly failed to market OFP to the U.S.  As a result BIS has lost millions of dollars in revenues from potential US gamers.  Hundereds of thousands of eager US gamers have been denied the experience of playing this masterpiece simply because they have never heard of it.  It pisses me off to no end. Codemasters are a bunch of incompetent fools who have no business handling a game like OFP.  THEY HAVE WRONGED BIS, and the entire OFP community!! mad.gif

BIS, you seriously need to think about getting a new publisher. You have an amazing product that just keeps getting better and better, and these suit wearing phoneys at Codemasters do not do your talents justice.  With a proper publisher who believes in your product you could easily dominate the entire PC gaming world.

FIRE CODEMASTERS NOW!! mad.gif  mad.gif

Yes I also agree, Codemasters must go. But aren't there so many contractual and legal issues that would make it very difficult to change?

yes, there probably is a contract or somthing, that bis probably agreed to stay with them for a certian number of years, but thats just a possibility.

another thing is that, codemasters has been around for a while and are fairly well known, bis on the other hand, is realitivly new, and they probably dont have the money or status yet, to go around and break up with their publisher

Yeah, but if BIS could prove that CM made them lose enough profits from piracy due to the staggered releases, they might be able to sue CM and then renege on the contract minus penalties

As much as I would like to say this is just a trolling post, it is completely true. confused.gif

BIS needs to ditch Codemasters.

I whole hardly agree, Codemasterbaters has done a horrible job of marketing OFP to the US gamers. I myself only learned of the game by accident, was surfing and typed in something involving a paintball scenario game I was interested in attending and found out this game was in development. This was back in 01'. Got the demo and was hooked, everyone I've shown the game to never heard of it but went and bought it after I let them play for a couple minutes.

My God, I am so sick of going to Best Buy and seeing the same games on the shelf made by the same companys. Geeze even the US Army does a better job of marketing a game before it comes out, and these guys have never done this before.

I'm sure once the contracts up you'll see a change. Go BIS, You Rule, you've got me so hooked since OFP's release I have'nt purchased any other game unless its something for OFP.

Well I think a game from Blizzard (just an example) gets more media cover and PR from their publisher because they've been making games for many many years and people know that they make decent products. There's ALOT of upstarters in developement that cancels their product and never get a game out. Therefore an upstart developer is a greater risk for the publisher. I think neither BIS nor CM had any idea what great potential there turned out to be in OFP. I think I've read several interviews portraying this.

Now that BIS has more than proven their abilites, I'm sure an OFP2 would get some massive marketing dollar.

Yeah, but that doesnt make sense Gim. I mean it would explain it if CM was barely paying BIS anything for their product- that I can understand. But the thing is BIS did turn a product, and it happens to be a damn good product. Now Im not demanding that CM pay BIS more (Not only would it be dumb, it wouldnt do any good), Im just saying that CM has fumbled big time releasing and advertising an addon that stood to make alot of cash, if not for BIS then definitely for CM. It just doesnt make sense, which is why I chalk this one up to incompetence on CMs part, not to the fact that BIS is an upstart.

Why is it that there arent any Resistance reviews anywhere yet? (I havent seen one at least) Codemasters should have sent press copies for reviewing a long time ago...

The only reason why Blizzard games is so known is, that Blizzard knows how marketing is, they understand to make great PR out of their games. Luckily, they have more freedom since they are their own publisher, right?

Anyway, Codemasters is pretty crap compared to other publishers, here in Denmark, noone knows about the game, except a few hardcore ofp fans. You never see an add, such as EA is doing with their games. I was in 5 shops today before i found Ressistance, hidden behind the old gold upgrade of ofp... Sad isnt it?

The store didnt even knew what Operation Flashpoint was other than: "Oh, its a shooting-game isnt it?"

Sad.

Think of it this way. As a child, you started up a lemonade stand, and called it LemonMasters. You sold your lemonade for about a dollar a glass. The only problem was, your lemonade kinda sucked, but people bought it anyways, because you whined at your Dad (who just happens to be a famous race car driver) to endorse your lemonade. So you are eeking out a living on your subpar lemonade, when suddenly this kid from out of town who doesnt speak English so well moves onto your block. This kid makes lemonade, and I mean he can MAKE lemonade. The kind that makes you want to come back and get a refill- 20 times.

So you hire this kid, and start selling his kind of lemonade along with your lame ass blend, except you actually charge less for the foreign kids lemonade. You also give him about a dime on every dollar you make off of his lemonade. So, you take this new profit, and you use it to make copies of a poster at the local Quik Kopy, and staple them on light poles throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. The only catch is that this poster only advertises your mediocre lemonade, not the foreign kids bad ass drink.

So, instead of getting more customers for your business by advertising the foreign kids lemonade, you roll right along trying to push your product, leaving the foreign kid to quietly continue making his lemonade. Slowly, people start talking about Sergey's lemonade, and word starts spreading, slowly at first, then faster, and soon Sergey announces that he is going to be releasing a new kind of lemonade, one that is supposedly not only better than the old recipe, but allows you to gain insight on the old recipe by adding new nuances to the blend. Anticipation builds, word spreads (no thanks to your lame ass advertising- btw, sales on YOUR lemonade are stagnating), and finally the day comes.

But, as it turns out, you failed to ask your dad for enough of the secret ingredient to supply to Sergey, so only a small amount of people get to try the new recipe, and many go away empty handed, dissappointed, and cursing that dumbass rich kid whos holding the foreign kid back. Some people are so pissed that they steal the recipe from your cart (you left it next to the autographed jerseys your Dad signed and you were trying to give away with your lemonade) and start distributing the new recipe to people who simply couldnt wait. Other faithful customers abstained from this lemonade piracy, and checked back with Sergey almost daily, waiting for their chance to try the new recipe.

Unfortunately, for awhile all Sergey could do was hand out pictures of people enjoying the new lemonade, but this didnt last very long. Finally, you get off your lazy ass and find enough ingredients for Sergey to make enough lemonade for the neighborhood- but it seems word had spread across town, and now a much larger neighborhood is becoming interested in Sergeys lemonade, after being subjected to 3 or 4 uninspired lemonades (think of them as Lemonade Six, Delta Force: Lemonade, SpecOps:Lemonade leads the way, and Lemonade of Fortune). But, after promising enough ingredients to meet this new demand, you instead decide to go to a circus. So, a large portion of this possible new audience instead tries out a free lemonade handed out by the local Salvation Army.

You are, naturally, oblivious to all this, because the circus is so much fun, and where the hell is all this money you have coming from all of a sudden?

Here ends this parable

We can't really know what's going on between CM and BIS. This is all speculation. I'm sure BIS knows how to handle things - it's not like this thread says anything they wouldn't know already.

The only true thing is that OFP with a couple of Tv adverts, some more announces in specialised magazines and a bit of interest by Codemasters in promoting the product would have increased the community up to three times what it is now...

I´m gonna touch some thing sensible now....I am sure Codemasters has always given more credit and believed much more in other products like "Colin Mcrae rally"...

Find ways to creatively delay Resistance, of course
